repost ~ immersed in fantasy

Ah, Las Vegas, a wonderful city. It can be a great place for a writer. So many different opportunities for observation and glimpses into the personas of others. I’ve seen the sun rise several times over Lake Mead, Lake Las Vegas and the strip at triathlon races and marathons. I’ve people watched at the strip and downtown while traversing around, frequenting the restaurants, gambling into the wee hours of the morning. I’ve stargazed with others deep into the night at Red Rock. I’ve gone to school here. Then, of course, there are my writing cronies and we can be in a whole category of interesting people ourselves. Las Vegas is a place where dreams can be made one day and broken the next. A place where if you have the money and/or the right connections your every wish can be met, your fantasies fulfilled, and even if you don’t have the big bank roll or connections, you can still pretty much live out your desires. So many chances to become immersed in fantasies. No, I’m not talking about going out of Clark County or calling up one of the many, um, “entertainment” businesses in the phone book. What I’m saying is, all you have to do is see a good show. Now, there’s the thing. What constitutes a good show?
That, my dear, is up to your personal taste.
I’ve had the chance to see quite a few. My favorite Cirque show is Zumanity (http://www.zumanity.com/en/default.aspx) I loved Phantom of the Opera (http://www.phantomlasvegas.com/) And, now my favorite male revue show is Chippendales (http://www.chippendales.com/index.php) Talk about fantasies…
But first, the audience. The first night we went, my friends (Kelly &  R.M. Sotera) and I were getting a show outside the theater. There are huge pictures on the outer walls that the women stood next to so “they could have a picture with the men.” Well, considering the dress code seemed to be to wrap a tight piece of cloth around the torso, we were seeing more than what we bargained for.
Ladies, for future reference please keep in mind the movie The Ugly Truth and the following scene when dressing to go out: Mike (Gerard Butler) and Abby (Katherine Heigl) are in the dress shop. Mike’s talking to her about cocktail dresses and he says, “Length is very important. We need short enough to see some thigh, but not so short to see vag.”
That’s true. Most women don’t care to see other women’s underwear, especially if she’s up on stage where it gives the audience a different vantage point. We were there to see the men, not what other women have on (or don’t—hence the ‘vag’) under their skimpy clothes. But the audience’s choice of clothing did lead to the creation of an interesting drinking game. Every time a girl had to hike up her top or pull down the dress to re-cover her ass, it was time to take a drink. If panties (or lack thereof) were sighted (a crotch shot), then it was time for a shot. Hey, R.M and I are writers. We observe. We create. So we made up a game the second night we saw the show. Yes, we saw the show Friday night and then again on Saturday.  No, R.M and I didn’t actually do the drinking game since we had to drive home.  (We plan on getting rooms the next time we go so maybe we’ll be able to implement the game then.)
The show/theater is a very high energy venue and loud. There were moments the first night I wished I had brought my earplugs so I could tone out the screams and calls and whistles. (I must be getting old.) The second night we had a booth toward the back, separate from the main feeding frenzy, so the noise and comfort level were much, much better. (Yep, I wrote feeding frenzy. I’ll explain in a bit.) The booth seats were a good location to watch the show…that is until a group of women decided to stand on the chairs. Luckily, the ushers and waiters took care of getting them down.
Don’t get me wrong, aside from the craziness of the audience, I had a great time and the show was awesome!
Before the show starts, there are clips of the Chippendales dancers public appearances and photo shoots that play on screens hanging above the stage. Something to whet the whistle before the countdown begins and, once it does, audience members are in for a smokin’ hot good time watching twelve scantily clothed men strut their stuff for about 75 minutes or so. Skits range from an 80’s number to men in military dress uniform to firemen. I have to tell ya, though, my favorite scenes were the ones with the vampires and the one with the white couch, the motorcycle and the bed covered in what looked to be white satin sheets and three guys gyrating on said props—a triple whammy all at once to really get the heart rate up. The emcee, Bryan, has a great voice and James playing guitar is swoon worthy. The dancers do interact with the audience. For some of the skits, there are ladies who are chosen to go up on stage and there are points when the men feed through the audience and pay attention to the women in/near the aisles, but it’s not like a strip club with lap dances and such. The show is tasteful. The dancers’ naughty bits are always out of sight. Saturday night we were lucky enough to have handsome dancer Juan come and say hello to us. He’s an absolute sweetie! (& my favorite) It was his politeness to us that brought and fully immersed me into the whole fantasy aspect that’s projected with the show. I mean, where else could someone like me get paid attention to like that, right? (No, I’m not putting myself down. I’m just a realist.) For now though, Juan’s Man of the Month for September, so if you go to the show this month, or friend the Chippendales on Facebook, tell him congratulations.
All of the dancers we had the pleasure of meeting were very personable, taking their time after the late show to visit with the women in the Flirt Lounge. Hanging out in the lounge was an experience & this is where my comment about the feeding frenzy comes into play. R.M and I hung back, while Kelly and Laurie obtained autographs and photos, and watched the swarm of women go from one man to another as they came out. I made the crack that the situation reminded me of a fish tank I once had. When it was feeding time, the fish would go nuts at the top of the water in a feeding frenzy—acting out, vying for position for the food… Good thing the men are gracious. Then again, with all those beautiful women, perhaps the men feel like wolves in a huge flock of sheep and can take their pick of the herd. Eventually, the men filtered our way. And, somehow, for the third time in two days, I ended up in front of the camera. Maybe it’s because I had been drinking…or it was the excitement of the even…most likely just peer pressure… (Those who know me know I currently HATE having my picture taken, which is a story for another day.) One of the pics is with my fav so I can’t complain too much.
So, if you want to see a great male revue show and have a great time while you’re at it, Chippendales is a top recommendation!Chippendales is the premier provider of entertainment for women and is currently the #1 Male Revue in the World. www.Chippendales.com features a free site offering a wide array of editorial and pictorial content and the Chippendales’ store, which sells branded products. For more information, please visit www.Chippendales.com.
Chippendales performs nightly at 8:00 p.m., with additional shows on Friday and Saturday at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $39.95 and $49.95. For tickets, call (702) 777-7776. Locals can receive tickets for $25 nightly with a valid Nevada I.D. for any performance.

Better late than never...

Finally, I'm out of writing, editing, revision and competition hell for a spell and have time to sit for a moment and post stuff about Halloween in Vegas.  Saturday night we went to the Chippendales show. (Want to hear about another time we went to the show, see the repost blog titled 'Immersed in Fantasy.') Before we went to the show, we hung out at the pub. Lots of people strolled in and out dressed in some very interesting costumes. We had the hospital patient, Bret Michaels, the short shorts wearing dude from Reno 911, nurses, mad hatters, avatars, etc. Yep, in the pic on the right they're dancing on the bar. I don't have any pics from the show, but lets just say the outfits the women were wearing were skimpy...very skimpy. Halloween night we hung out down on the strip. Here's a Halloween video. It's not the greatest in the world since it was taken with my phone camera, but it's something. We were hanging outside of Harrah's near the pit where bands play.

Here are some more pics, too. What an interesting place to be on a night like Halloween. :)

Welcome Guest Blogger! Destiny Blaine

Destiny Blaine who also writes as Natalie Acres joins us here today to talk about her new book: Breakfast by the Sea. Welcome!
Jekyll Island is on Red Alert: These Tough and Sexy Operatives Will Leave the Island Forever Changed
On rare occasions, a writer will pen something they can’t seem to leave behind after they type out the ending. Breakfast by the Sea is one of those books. Jeff Jacobsen, the lead Alpha-male hero in the novel is forever embedded in my mind. The story, the characters, and the setting will remain in my head for years to come.
When writing a ménage romance with more than two heroes, I tend to lean toward one of these fellows right from the start, but after reviewing my notes for the novel,  I never thought this would be an obstacle in this particular novel and for various reasons.
When the characters were developed, I fell in love with each of these men, feeling like they were the boys next door. These operatives were cowboys with plenty of heart. They were willing to take up arms and fight for what they believe in and more than willing to die for the person they were standing beside, especially when one of their own, a brother more than a friend, counted on them for their protection.
As much as I tried to keep Jeff Jacobsen on common ground with the others, he kept pressing his way to the forefront and mainly because there was so much story to tell about his past; too much to reveal and a lot of layers to uncover. The man behind the operative chased the demons he desperately needed to overcome and once Paige revealed her place in his life, I was toast. Jeff was mine.
Even though Jeff Jacobsen emerged as the leading hero, Callan O’Bree won over several beta readers from the start. He was noted as the perfect Irishman—handsome, charming, and full of mischief.  Miles is said to be intelligent with a dry sense of humor certain to win over his own crowd. As for Adam, our fearless Super-Ops leader, he has a definite fan club for various reasons.  I can’t reveal those without giving away a few spoilers.
In the end, I think readers will be very surprised at the turn of events between Paige Lambert, our heroine, and Connor, one of the heroes who could’ve easily emerged as our leading man. The way the tables turn between Connor and Paige is one of my favorite parts in the story. I think you’ll see the underlying significance of their relationship and agree, the final scene between Paige and Connor lays the groundwork for an incredibly sweet happy ending.
I’m proud of Breakfast by the Sea and hope you’ll consider purchasing this book while it’s on sale at a tremendous 15% savings. I’m anxious to introduce ‘my boys’ to you and hope you’ll love them as much as I do. Breakfast by the Sea is available today at Siren-Bookstrand.

Blurb for Breakfast by the Sea:

A beautiful woman with a checkered past runs a legitimate bed and breakfast on Jekyll Island. Several young men posing as cowboys move in Breakfast by the Sea and things become chaotic right from the start when the oceanfront B&B turns into a command center for a very determined group of special Super-Op Forces.
Pursuing a man known as the King of Hearts, five tough operatives fall for a woman they’re supposed to eliminate. When the team discovers Paige Lambert is in fact the Queen of Hearts, they can’t ignore their handler’s orders. Is the bed and breakfast owner destined to die for her past crimes or will she end up under the protective custody of the men hired to kill her?

Excerpt for Breakfast by the Sea:
He felt like he’d just laid eyes on her for the first time. He started at her chin, noticing the way the dark brown hair curved under her jaw, a lock of hair so delicate but there nonetheless, like it was clinging for dear life. Was that what Paige was doing? Was she frightened? Was she running scared?
His gaze traveled down her long, slender neck. He admired how she held her head high, the structure of her slender collarbone leading to a bare chest with plenty for a man to enjoy. Before he indulged too much, Paige knelt down and retrieved her clothes, shrugging into a sports bra, one she had to yank over those full mounds in order to secure them.
Damn. She was right. Snapping that neck of hers would be a terrible waste.
That’s when his mouth watered. Why hadn’t he gawked when she’d been topless? And why did he find her sexy as all fucking hell right then?
Her flat stomach made him itch. He’d love to kiss around her sunken belly button and insinuate a slow sex act, make her arch for him, beg him for more.
Finally, he studied the band of her shorts. What he’d give to lick and tease his way a little lower, strip away those shorts and show her what she’d been missing. Maybe in her body, he’d find what he’d been looking for all along. Perhaps he needed to fuck a woman he wasn’t later expected to kill. Then again, he couldn’t be so sure that order wouldn’t come.
Stop thinking!
“Is something wrong?” she asked, batting her eyelashes.
“No,” he replied, storming ahead of her. Suddenly, he wondered why she followed him then when she hadn’t trailed behind him before. He stopped, turned around, and shook his finger again. “Don’t you dare run. I’d like to have breakfast before we do that again.”
“Okay,” she said, catching up and walking beside him. “Want to answer my question now?”
“Which one?”
“How can you keep up with me?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know,” he growled.
“I’m asking.”
“I’m in great shape.”
“I can tell.”
Jeff stopped at the bottom of the steps. “Is that you coming on to me?”
She sashayed by him. “No, Jeff. That was me trying to figure out how I can outrun you next time.”
“There won’t be a next time,” he told her, grabbing her from behind and slamming her against the steps, bracing her back with his large hands.
His breath matched hers. The move knocked the wind out of both of them.
“Now what?”
“I’m not going to kiss you,” he said, thinking he wouldn’t put up much of a fight if she laid one on him.
She moistened her lips. “I didn’t think so,” she whispered, arching her neck. “What if I kiss you?”
“Is that what you’re planning to do? You have the rest of these guys by the balls, and since I’m not turning tricks to taste the pudding, what ’cha gonna do, darlin’, offer me a spoon?”
“I don’t understand your riddles,” she stated flatly, licking those full, enticing lips once more.
“Let me give you a warning. I’m the real thing, sweetheart. I’m in Jekyll Island to work. It’s something all of us do very well when we don’t have a distraction. Now, since I’ve been assigned to you for the time being, I’m setting you straight. You’ll do what I tell you, and you’ll do it with a wide smile to boot. Understand?”
“Or you’ll what?”
“I told you what I’d do. If you want to see how much I enjoy skinny-dipping, pull one of your stunts again. I’ll drag you into that ocean and make sure every tourist within ten miles hears you when you scream.”
“I already heard the guys talking. You wouldn’t rape me,” she said, narrowing her gaze and proving then that she wasn’t so sure.
“Rape? Hell, no. You’ll respond to me like a bitch in heat. I have a way about me.”
“Really? Who would’ve thought?” she asked diabolically, moving her lips to his ear. “Who can I ask to verify this? Hmm? Have you left any of your past lovers alive? Because if you have, I’d love to give them a call and invite them to join me for tea.”

Such 'Dirty Little' Stories...

Recently, my ‘Dirty Little’ series was reviewed. In light of the 5th book, ‘Dirty Little Demons,’ receiving five out of five hearts in a review, I figured I’d share some background on how the stories came about and how the overall arc evolved.
When I first started pursuing and learning the craft to be a writer my main focus was in the horror genre.  Back then (we’re talking high school…many, many moons ago) a judge in a contest I had entered told me I could be the next Stephen King. To me that was a wonderful compliment.  Several years later a friend introduced me to the romance writing market through Jude Deveraux’s ‘A Knight in Shining Armor.’  I fell in love with that story and soon after Deveraux’s novel ‘Remembrance’ became my favorite.  I shifted gears in my writing…but not completely…

This is evident in my 2008 Halloween release ‘Dirty Little Secret’ and in my 2009 Valentine’s release ‘Dirty Little Lie’ where I embraced my horror roots once again for the two short stories. For the most part, inspiration for the first two ‘Dirty Little’ stories came about after listening to Apocalyptica’s song ‘I'm Not Jesus’.
‘Dirty Little Secret,’ a short story created for eXtasy’s Fantasy Games line, is not a romance in any sense of the word.  It’s a straight up erotica spook fest with very strong religious undertones which came to me after hearing the song and reading a person’s profile on myspace. [Erotica differs from erotic romance in that erotica does not promise a happily ever after (HEA) within the story line.] In ‘Dirty Little Lie,’ my first m/m story and another short for eXtasy’s Fantasy Games line, the dark and handsome demon Ash is introduced.  He and his love interest go on a cruise and head for Hell, Grand Cayman.  ‘Dirty Little Lie,’ though more of a romance, was said to be ‘creepy like the first book was’ by my crit partner. ‘Dirty Little Lie’ has a HEA… Well, at least in the mind of the one character they’ll live HEA…
Now, when it came to the series evolving, I had no real idea of how many stories there’d be or what would happen along the way. I thought there might be one or two more stories and that’d be it. Then there was a call for a new line revolving around the colors of roses and their meanings. That’s when the idea of the ‘Dirty Little’ stories becoming more of a family saga took shape.
‘Dirty Little Trip’ follows the mother, a divorcee who’s addicted to chocolate, and what happens between her and Ash. Again, this story has romantic elements but is better classified as erotica. ‘Dirty Little Girl,’ an erotica with romantic elements, is the daughter’s break out story. In it, Jamie Sue/Jay escapes life in the south and heads for a big city, winding up in Las Vegas. This is the beginning of the rest of the series. She encounters Ash’s son and gets involved with the demon slaying sect, which eventually leads her to getting involved with the love of her life in ‘Dirty Little Demons.’ Yes, DLD can be considered an erotic romance. But life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Ash wants Jay. He’s even brought her down to hell so he can express his feelings for her. That story will be revealed in ‘Dirty Little Boys,’ a tarot based, erotic romance story (m/f, m/m, and small m/m/m scene), where Keg and his ‘one’ rescue Jay. ‘Dirty Little Boys,’ as of this blog posting, is currently a work in progress.
Right now, there’s only one more story planned for the series. It’ll concentrate on Jay and Ash and how she resolves her feelings for him and the other man in her life. But, I won’t say I’ll never write another ‘Dirty Little’ story (never say never, right) since, after all, the twins are still out there.

The review for ‘Dirty Little Demons’ can be found at: http://sizzlinghotbooks.blogspot.com/2010/10/dirty-little-demons-by-cr-moss.html
