Welcome special guest: author Danica Avet ( #FF @danicaavet @sirenbookstrand )

Today we have author Danica Avet visiting. Born and raised in Cajun country, Danica writes steamy, erotic paranormal romance that rivals the heat of a south Louisiana summer. She enjoys reading, watching football, and spending time with family when she isn’t writing about immortals or shapeshifters.

So, Danica, what inspired you to become a writer?
I always wanted to be a writer. I can distinctly remember writing a short story when I was seven that talked about my need to be in the entertainment industry. The first line went something like “Ever since I was young, I’ve always wanted to be in showbiz…” Like I was so old at seven! LOL

When did you attempt your first story? What length was it? What's become of it?
My mom bought me a typewriter when I was about fifteen and I wrote about fifty pages of a story about a girl who was kind of like Nancy Drew, except not as well written. I have no idea where that story went. I just remember I described absolutely everything she wore, places she went, and people she saw. Hello, huge paragraphs!

How many stories did you complete before you sold your first?
The first story I completed was the first story I sold. It took me several starts and stops before I told myself I had to finish something. Since then I’ve sold seven stories and have a million waiting to be written (and finished).

What genre(s) do you write in? What drew you to write in it/them? What’s your favorite genre of all to write in?
I write paranormal erotic romance. I didn’t intend to write erotic romance, mind you. It just so happens that I actually enjoy writing steamy love scenes. As for the paranormal aspect, I’m from south Louisiana. I grew up with ghost stories and swamp monster stories. As far as I’m concerned, writing paranormal romance is just a natural progression.

What are the best and worst pieces of writing advice you ever received?
The best piece of advice I’ve ever received was when a writer told me to never throw anything away because while it might not work for the story you’re writing now, you can always recycle and use it in another. I live by those words.
I can’t say I’ve had terrible advice, but I’ve found that trying to force myself to follow plotting/writing techniques doesn’t help me at all. I feel stifled by rules and while I’ll attempt doing what I’ve learned in a workshop, in the end I do my own thing.

How do you celebrate/deal with acceptance/rejection letters?
The most fun I ever had with a rejection letter was one I’d written for myself. I figured if I was going to be rejected, I may as well have fun with it and wrote a ridiculous letter to myself that I still read now and then just to laugh. As for acceptances and deals, there’s a lot of screaming, squealing, calling everyone in my family, and finally a nice dinner out.

In regard to the book you’re promoting, which actor and actress do you envision playing the roles of your hero and heroine? If there’s a villain or other characters who are pertinent to the story, who would play those parts?
Wow, that’s such a tough question! My hero would have to be played by Joe Manganiello. Is it just me, or is he super fine? He’d make a perfect, sexy elf. As for my heroine, I think Charlize Theron would be an awesome Magda. She can be funny, sexy, and tough which is just how I see Magda.

The book you’re promoting, is it a stand-alone story or part of a series? If it’s part of a series, please list the order the books need to be read in for maximum reading enjoyment.
You Bet Your Banshee is the first book in my newest series, The Three Kingdoms. The three kingdoms are the monarchies that reign over Fairworld, another dimension. It consists of elves, fairies, gargoyles, banshees, goblins, pixies, etc. Pretty much anything you would expect to see in any fairy tale could be found in Fairworld. I’m not sure what sparked the original idea of Fairworld, except maybe my fascination with elves, fairies, etc. I blame Tolkien.
I’m still working on the next book which will be titled Reaper’s Delight.

*** Now for some fun info… ***
Are you a cat, dog or both kind of person?
I have two cats (16 and 4) and one dog. I always thought I was a cat person, but when I picked up my Mia (dog), she stole my heart.

Which do you prefer: rain or sun & warm weather or cold weather?
Since I’m from south Louisiana where we only have three seasons: hot, hotter, and hottest, I prefer cold weather, or rather as cold as it gets down here. I wish winter lasted six months instead of maybe six weeks, LOL

What’s your favorite day of the week?
I’m all about Friday. That might be because my day job drives me insane, or it could be because I have a Fantasy Man Friday on my blog which gives me a chance to ogle beautiful men. *cough* Besides, Friday marks the start of two days away from the work week.

*** About the book… ***
~ Blurb ~
*What’s a banshee to do when she’s sentenced to death because of her inability to cry? Move to Earth and become a stripper, of course. For ten years, Magda O’Quinn has lived on Earth, supporting herself with her butt-shaking skills and hiding from the banshee queen who wants her death, before she discovers people are hunting her who won't stop until she's back in Fairworld.
*The first to find her is hunky Halfling, Ryvan Keller, an agent of the fairy queen. The attraction Magda feels for him is panty-wetting to be sure, but there’s no way she'll give in to her attraction and meekly follow him back into the hell of Fairworld. She’ll have to battle extreme lust for a sexy Halfling, fall in love, and defeat an evil queen before she can get back to the business of having a life again.
You Bet Your Banshee is nothing like I originally planned. At all. I’d never written a first person book before, Magda wasn’t anything like I imagined, the world was completely different than my original idea, and it was a lot shorter than I expected, but I had so much fun writing it, I don’t regret the detour my muse sent me on.

Tuesday Tea ~ DD Tales, Reviews & RomCon ( @rmsotera @crmoss @evernightpub #romcon )

Wow! What a weekend! My writing partner, RM Sotera, and I drove up to the Denver/Aurora, CO area for RomCon this past weekend & what a time we had! It was so great meeting other authors, meeting our fans and making new friends/fans. And the eye candy wasn't bad either! ;)
There were fun events. During Build A Hero, the group I was in had a visit from model, Len Gunn. Then during the Mad Libs event, a really nice couple won an awesome gift basket with some very interesting items in it. On Saturday night before the Chocolate Mangasm party they held the book signing. RM and I sold copies of our books and gained more recognition for our co-authored project, Wild West Weekend.
The trip to Colorado wasn't just great because of the event, it was also wonderful because we were able to work on the next Double D Ranch Tales! On Thursday afternoon, we sat in the lounge area outlining and developing scenes for book 2 (tentatively titled Wild West Hauntings) and book 3 (tentatively titled either Wild West Holiday ~Island Style or Wild West Getaway ~ Island Style). We've also discussed ideas for books four and five and possibilities for a couple of novellas! So stay tuned for more info at the Double D Ranch blog.
Which brings me to all the awesome reviews we've received on the first book, Wild West Weekend that can be found under the review tab at Wild West Weekend - Evernight Publishing. Thank you readers for your kind words! And, to those of you who mentioned the first book was too short cause you wanted more of the characters? Have no fear, there'll be plenty more of the gang from the Double D Ranch in the next books...more love, fights, & making up. New family members and guests will be introduced. In book two there will be a ghost and a poltergeist. In book three, they'll be in the Grand Caymans where antics and trouble abound. Some great conflicts, that even surprised us as we were outlining the stories, will occur. And, of course, there'll be lots of hot, steamy sex again! Haven't read the first book Wild West Weekend yet? Get it here:

Six Sentences from AFK an Urban Fantasy, Erotic Romance now available in Evernight Publishing's Keyboards and Kink anthology.

*A slight breeze carried a hint of copper. Blood? Perhaps. She just hoped it wasn’t his. She’d been tracking the man from the Winchapel clan for too long to let her quarry fall prey to someone else’s hands. Besides, if she had a chance to be alone with Godric Winchapel again—even if only for a few minutes—she’d take the opportunity to derive some personal pleasure from his presence.

Welcome special guest: author Raven McAllan

Today we have author Raven McAllan visiting. Raven lives on the edge of a Scottish forest with her husband and two cats, her children having flown the nest. She loves good books, fine wine and chocolate, and hates midges and liver. Especially midges!

So, Raven, what inspired you to become a writer?
Winning a competition at primary school. The prize was chocolate.

When did you attempt your first story? What length was it? What's become of it?
As a proper try? A very long and rambling effort about living in a Scottish Castle, it's probably in a box in the attic. I wrote it (or attempted to about 20 years ago. But I've always written stories, often to the disgust of my teacher. "Facts dear, facts!"

How many stories did you complete before you sold your first?
This was the one of the first I completed, (I think I had three written) and there were a few more almost done.

What genre(s) do you write in? What drew you to write in it/them? What’s your favorite genre of all to write in?
I write romance in one form or another. Regency, contemporary, paranormal, mystery— both sweet and sinfully hot! M/f, m/m, f/f, menage, I love them all.

What are the best and worst pieces of writing advice you ever received?
Best? Write as you can not as you think you should! Worst? You can't write!

How do you celebrate/deal with acceptance/rejection letters?
Wine and chocolate, both times!

In regard to the book you’re promoting, which actor and actress do you envision playing the roles of your hero and heroine? If there’s a villain or other characters who are pertinent to the story, who would play those parts?
This is the only thing I can't do. I never ever base my chracters on real people, they are truly a figment of my imagination. I know what they look like, but it isn't anyone I know! I like my readers to make their own minds up. If you see Ivo as Daniel Craig, or Alexander Skaarsgard, that's fine by me.

The book you’re promoting, is it a stand-alone story or part of a series? If it’s part of a series, please list the order the books need to be read in for maximum reading enjoyment.
I'm really lucky here, because Rogue Scandals is the 3 in 1 paperback of 3 of my Regency stories.Wallflower's Don't Wilt is the first, then To Please A lady. These are both available as ebooks. The third story, A Most Unusual Mistress is out on August 17th. So if you want to know what happens you have to get the peprbsck. It's very losely a series, in that the characters from book one pop up in the others. They can be read in any order but, much better like that!
*The first book was written in response to a dare by my crit group, but once I started to realize the problems they encountered in trying to get their relationship to work I was hooked. And my love of all things Regency increased.

*** Now for some fun info… ***
Are you a cat, dog or both kind of person?
I have cats, but love walking with my friend and her dogs.

Which do you prefer: rain or sun & warm weather or cold weather?
Oh sun, sun and heat!

Are you a morning person or night owl?
Morning, I get up and write!

*** About Raven’s book… ***
So, Rogue Scandals. Due in paperback on June 15th.
*Researching these books was so much fun. The more I did the more I found how hard life was for anyone who wished to live a non conventional lifestyle. I remembered some of the stories my great aunt (who herself wasn't what you called conventional in her younger days—there is definitely a story or two there) had told me about her great grandma, and thought hmm! There's a book in all this. I also love rummaging through junk stalls, antique shops and old book stores, and it'd amazing what you find. To say nothing of what you find when you put stuff into your search engine!
*I was looking a stall in China and saw a very interesting piece of jade! I researched it later. (there was no way I was going to ask my son who spoke mandarin to query if it was indeed a carved part of a gentleman's anatomy. And yes it was!) We bough a tiny jade elephant instead!
Here's the blurb...
*Rogue Scandals. Where rogues and ladies, love fight, and play
*Beneath the prim and proper surface of the ton, intrigue and scandal was only a gossiping word away.
*For many men and women, the fear of ruin and worse accompanied them at all times. Some defied propriety, took hold of their happiness and hoped for the best.
*Meet the men prepared to defy convention to win their ladies.
*But are those ladies prepared to let them have it all their own ways?
*Of course not, for their partnerships are as unconventional as the ladies themselves.
Wallflowers Don't Wilt
*Two women on the verge of freedom. One man looking for adventure. Can he persuade them that freedom comes in many forms, including three bodies entwined?
To Please A Lady
*When your lovers are lovers themselves, and want you to help them make the perfect triangle, what do you say? Persuade me of course!
A Most Unusual Mistress
*Why be a wife if a mistress has more fun? All Adriana has to do is get Ashley to agree.

Six Sentence Sunday ~ Tracked for June 10 ( #sixsunday @6_Sunday )

Six Sentences from Tracked

What gall it has coming out to brighten everything when my day’s so bleak no amount of sunshine would do any good. She stopped anyway and kept her face lifted up to the sky to feel the warmth of the rays for a few seconds.
In an instant, her head felt like it had exploded. The stolen moment was snatched away from her in a blast of pain. Horrified, her eyelids flew open, and she was no longer looking at the sky but at the ground.
The earth rushed up to meet her and greeted her with darkness.

Welcome special guest: author C.R. Richards/Thia Myles Vincent ( @CR_Richards @TM_Vincent #FF )

Today we have author C.R. Richards/Thia Myles Vincent visiting. She says, "I write under Thia Myles Vincent (Horror and Suspenseful Romance) and C.R. Richards (Urban and Dark Fantasy). My literary career began as a part-time columnist for a small entertainment newspaper. I wore several hats: food critic, entertainment reviewer and cranky editor. A co-author of horror and urban fantasy novels, my first solo fiction project is scheduled for release from Whiskey Creek Press in 2013.

So, C.R., what inspired you to become a writer?
When I was a kid, I’d sit under the big tree in our backyard, staring up at the stars in the summer sky. Sometimes I would day dream about living on one of the distant planets overhead. Other times I’d entertain my little nephews with stories of pixies living in our tree. I’ve always had one foot in my own fantasy world. It surprised me to find that other people enjoyed listening to my stories as much as I enjoyed making them up. I decided to write them down, so I could continue to share them with other whimsy enthusiasts.

When did you attempt your first story? What length was it? What's become of it?
I wrote a short story with illustration done in colored pencil for a writing competition in third grade. The main characters were mythical creatures from the Zodiac. My story won first place. Some of my critics were convinced my drawing of Cancer the Crab was actually a rotten orange with hooks. Unfortunately, the story was the victim of flood damage in my parent’s basement.

How many stories did you complete before you sold your first?
Prior to my first publication, I wrote an epic dark fantasy series with five plus books. I pitched the first book in the series for three years with only mild interest. After a few publishing successes under my belt, I took a hard look at the dark fantasy series I was writing with an objective eye. Now I can see the weaknesses and the strengths of the series. Currently, I’m revamping the stories.

What genre(s) do you write in? What drew you to write in it/them? What’s your favorite genre of all to write in?
When my co-author asked me to work on the horror romance novel Devil Music, I was a little hesitant. Not familiar with either genre, I wondered if I could produce the work. I decided to keep an open mind and take a chance. It worked out well and gave me the confidence I needed to explore other genres outside my comfort zone. I decided to push myself and integrate my love of mystery/suspense into an urban fantasy story, Phantom Harvest. The book is scheduled for release from Whiskey Creek Press in February 2013.
Though I enjoy writing horror, suspense and romance, my favorite genre to write is definitely fantasy. I'm fascinated by speculating on what would happen if a supernatural or magical element was introduced into ordinary everyday situations.

What are the best and worst pieces of writing advice you ever received?
The best writing advice I’ve ever received was from New York Times Bestselling author Joseph Finder at a writer’s conference. He told us in the writing workshop, “Just write the stupid draft. Don’t worry about grammar or form. Just get the draft done. Then go back and edit it.” Someone telling me it was okay to just have fun on that first draft, made all the difference. People ask me how I kick out the first drafts on these 90 to 100k word books so quickly. I can do it, because I make it fun. I don’t make it a chore or worry about my grammar the first time out. Just enjoy the ride.
The worst writing advice I got was from a freelance editor I hired to edit the first book in the dark fantasy series I talked about earlier. She did a great job copy editing, however, she told me that my book really should be a YA novel and some of the subject matter I had added wasn’t appropriate. Rather than listening to my gut, I followed her advice and went down a rabbit hole for several years trying to make the book something it wasn’t. I’m working on going back to the way I originally had written the novel. It took me a few years, but I’ve learned something important. I don’t write YA novels. I know who I am as a writer and what my stories are about. While it’s important to listen to the advice of experts in the industry, you were given that story to write. Be true to the story and the characters.

How do you celebrate/deal with acceptance/rejection letters?
I like to celebrate each acceptance letter, contract and book release by doing something special I normally wouldn’t for each book. For Phantom Harvest, I bought tickets to Wicked and had a great night at the theatre.
Rejection letters I treat like scrubbing toilets. They stink, they’re no fun, but they’re a part of life. I scrub what I need to scrub and then flush the rest. On to the next one.

In regard to the book you’re promoting, which actor and actress do you envision playing the roles of your hero and heroine? If there’s a villain or other characters who are pertinent to the story, who would play those parts?
When I picture Eddie Setzer, I imagine a young Eddie Van Halen. James Franco could play them both without a hitch.
I think Megan Fox would be a good Page Montrose. She’s stunningly beautiful and has a proven record as an action star.
Raven Santana (aka Satan in high heels) could only be played by Eva Longoria.

The book you’re promoting, is it a stand-alone story or part of a series? If it’s part of a series, please list the order the books need to be read in for maximum reading enjoyment.
My co-author E.C. Stacy and I kept Devil Music as a standalone novel. We started with the classic theme “Good versus Evil” and then began asking ourselves questions to flesh out the story. How would a man keep his life sane and his friends out of jeopardy, while he’s forced to experience the deaths of innocent souls? We went a step further and put our character in the limelight. Would the seductive nature of fame make it impossible to win his freedom back?

*** Now for some fun info… ***
What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
Coldstone Creamery’s Sweet Cream with caramel is my Kryptonite.

Are you a cat, dog or both kind of person?
I have a fifty pound lab mix and a ten pound orange tabby. Kitty has taken over control of the house and we bow to his every whim.

Are you a morning person or night owl?
I’m a morning person. If I sleep past 7:30 am on the weekends, you know I’m sick. And if I’m not asleep in bed by 9pm, I’m a very cranky girl.

*** About the book… ***
Devil Music was my first venture into the Romance genre. The story takes place in a rock musician’s world. Doing research was a blast. I picked up some great ideas for guitars, etc from Wendell Sherman, the drummer for the “Code Whiskey” band. After the book’s release, we were honored when the book and cover art were both nominated in the 2012 EPIC Ebook Awards. Devil Music is available for purchase in ebook and print formats from Amazon or directly from Whiskey Creek Press.
Tagline: Horror, Sex and Rock n’ Roll
Blurb:
Fame has its price.
Page Montrose’s new relationship with Eddie Setzer is threatened by his horrendous out-of-body experiences. He dies for other people. After each terror, he returns to his normal world of guitar hero and prays that the spells won’t demolish the careers of his fellow band members. Although Page does her best to love his plague away using Tantra, the deaths become more gruesome and frequent. When an old blues player warns them about the true identity of Eddie’s music producer Raven Santana, Page and Eddie uncover a dark force that’s using the virtuosos to damn innocent souls.

A Look At Alex Bowman & 'Losing His Religion' ( @evernightpub )

Today we have author Alex Bowman visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
I was born and raised in Williamsburg, Virginia and even attended William and Mary here. I’ve been writing since I was little and I’m published in another genre. A friend talked me into trying my hand at erotic mm romance, so I tried it and found I loved it.

What book are you going to tell us about today? Is it part of a series? If so, what's the order the books should be read in?
My first book is Losing His Religion, the first in a new series called Soul Collectors. It’s a paranormal story built in our world, but opening the doors to the supernatural beyond. This first one focuses on the story of Jamie, an orphan, who finds out as a teen that he’s a soul collector – a human who is able to protect a human soul from being stolen by a demon as the human dies. He can also extract the souls when he kills a demon, saving them from an eternity in hell. Ios is an otherworldly figure sent to protect him and Jamie struggles to trust him and the growing feelings that develop between the two.

How'd you/your muse come up with this story?
It just hit me out of the blue. It is so different from what I normally write, but felt so natural. The story just flowed out of me, too, and I’ve already outlined the next two in the series. I’m not a firm believer that getting out of your comfort zone and trying something new can open the flood gates.

Describe the hero in five words.
Ios – warrior, protector, lover, strong, & kind

Describe the heroine in five words.
This is a mm, so I will use this spot for Jamie. Jamie – fighter, worthy, lovable, strong, & resilient

Who's your favorite character in the book & why?
Jamie, easily. He’s been abandoned by everyone he’s ever loved and handed a crap lot in life. Yes, he has trust issues and finds being around other people difficult, but after everything, he’s never broken. He bounces back easily, not allowing the power that be to win.

What's your favorite line in the story?
A descriptive one that explains another plane where Ios takes Jamie to train. I want to go live there.
“Open fields of aquamarine grasses littered with fuchsia flowers drifted in a perpetual breeze under the three bright full moons that filled the midnight blue sky.”

A look into the story...
Blurb – Losing His Religion:
The Soul Collectors, 1 ~
Discarded most of his life, Jamie had learned as a teen that he was a Soul Collector, one of a mysterious group who fought the demons that attacked fellow humans. Cast out into the world, alone, the orphan fought hard to find his way, ending up in a seminary of all places. But chastity wasn’t a problem. He had no time or trust for relationships, let alone love.
Ios felt protective of the Soul Collector, the one the prophecy claimed would one day be his mate. Following the human for years, Ios had done everything he could to ensure his safety without stepping out of the shadows. He also held his lust in check, knowing Jamie would never accept him.
The time was upon them to join forces. Could Jamie handle who and what Ios was, and trust the growing feelings between them before it was too late?

Excerpt (ADULT) – Losing His Religion (©2012, Alex Bowman):
   “So did you?”
   “Did I?”
“Know I was yours the moment you saw me?” Jamie pinned him with a look of lust he’d never quite seen flash on the man’s face before.
Mine. Ios’s felt the rush of need spiral through him with such force that it nearly took him to his knees. His cock thickened and he felt his balls tighten. His whispered “Yes…” floated on the air, his body trembling with the hard-won control to stand in place and not cross the room and force the human to the floor under him.
“I don’t know that I believe in fated lovers, predetermined to find one another.”
“I’m not asking you to believe in anything.” Ios believed enough for the both of them.
“I will admit, there is something…”
Something? “What?” He needed Jamie to say it, that he wanted Ios. Needed Ios.
Jamie’s face flamed and he glanced down, apparently unable to put the emotions he felt into words.
   Fuck it. Control is overrated.

Ios stomped across the small space, grasped Jamie’s head in his hands and pressed his lips against the smoldering heat of the human’s mouth. Swallowing the gasp of pleasure, he thrust his tongue into Jamie’s mouth and tasted the ale left lingering there, as well as the heat and taste of his male.
When he felt Jamie’s hands spreading across his chest and moving down his stomach, he tightened his whole body, needing for the hands to venture further south, needing the male to show him that he wanted more through his exploration. As warm hands rubbed against his hardened cock through his jeans he could have shouted in joy. He deepened the kiss, pressing his hips forward, languishing in the caress from his male.
Ripping the shirt open, baring Jamie’s chest, the tinkering of buttons hitting the stone floor echoed around him. Ios spread his fingers along the hard muscles before him. Jamie removed the shirt, dropping it to the floor. The material puddled around his feet and Ios wanted more to follow. His shaking fingers pulled at the belt buckle Jamie wore, and he tugged at the leather, not wanting to remove his lips from the human’s.
Pulling back, he was afraid the moment would be lost if he could not keep Jamie in a frenzy. His need was too great. He could not be denied this time. Ios would have the male now, or he would explode.
Warm hands steadied his. “Let me.”
Jamie gazed into his eyes, slowly removing the belt and dropping it to the floor. His hands then went to the top of his pants and he unbuttoned them. The slow pull of the zipper reminded him that he was overclothed as well. Ios removed his t-shirt in a flash and kicked off his shoes. By the time his pants were gone, Jamie also stood naked.
His hands ached to touch the male, to explore every single inch of flesh he had to offer up for his inspection. Jamie was beautiful. Small, firm muscles curved over his slim build, his skin nearly unmarred. The wound in his chest was no longer visible.
A small smattering of blond hair started below his belly button and thickened as it surrounded his jutting cock. Fully erect, it stood proud against his stomach, a pearl of fluid shining at the tip of the purple head. Thick veins spread along the shaft and Ios’s mouth watered to taste the flesh. Dropping to his knees before his human, he got a closer look at what the male had to offer.

Six Sentence Sunday ~ 'AFK' ( #sixsunday @6_Sunday @evernightpub )

Six Sentences from AFK an Urban Fantasy, Erotic Romance now available in Evernight Publishing's Keyboards and Kink anthology.

*A slight breeze carried a hint of copper. Blood? Perhaps. She just hoped it wasn’t his. She’d been tracking the man from the Winchapel clan for too long to let her quarry fall prey to someone else’s hands. Besides, if she had a chance to be alone with Godric Winchapel again—even if only for a few minutes—she’d take the opportunity to derive some personal pleasure from his presence.

Day 5 ~ Keyboards & Kink Release Day & BL0G H0P W!nner! ( #FF @evernightpub )

Today is the day! Below you'll find my complete excerpt comprising the lines from the past several days and some more. Plus, winners are revealed!
About Keyboards & Kink...
Overall Anthology Blurb:
A night at home on the computer doesn’t have to be boring…
Feel like chatting? Or maybe doing something more daring? The stranger reaching out across cyberspace could be a creepy pervert, but what if he wasn’t? What if he’s a vampire, the sexy boy next door, or even your gorgeous boss? Thirteen tales explore all the delicious possibilities when online relationships lead to sexy encounters away from the keyboard.

AFK Blurb:
Lizbet “Beth” Hayes has been dumped by her boyfriend and betrayed by her best friend. To escape from reality, she stays home and delves into work by beta-testing a massively multiplayer online role-playing game—C.O.V.E.N., Clans of Vegas¬-Endless Night—the company she works for is creating. She’s consumed by the fantasy game, even going so far as to develop a crush on a vampire-warlock character named Godric. When a horrible thunderstorm hits, she’s sucked into the game for real and hooks up with the guy.
But can fantasy take the place of reality?

AFK Complete Excerpt:
Unfortunately, all the clues Bella had found over the course of time led her to Godric, the wonderful man she’d met and who haunted her daydreams. She hoped he wasn’t the one she searched for. Godric had been too kind, too funny and warm to be the evil one she tracked. She wasn’t much for praying, but she called upon any higher deity out there listening to let her assumption that he was the warlock be wrong.
Too many close calls and lonely nights depleted her hope for a bright future more than she cared to admit. Bella loved her job as a warrior in the clan, but she was tired of failing and coming up empty-handed on this particular mission. She couldn’t wait till she could give chase of the evil ones and Chem Warfare Urchins, also known as CWU’s, for mere sport and play rather than under command of her leader and his vengeful need. Maybe once she brought the amulet back, they’d stop calling her Bella Morte—Beautiful Death. However, until she completed her responsibilities to her and her master’s satisfaction, she had to soldier on and continue to hunt within the war-torn ruins of Las Vegas for those who had to be dispatched.
A true shame Godric’s next on my list. Killing him would be a horrible waste of a beautiful male specimen. Perhaps I should stop thinking of him in terms of a hunky man with a name. Might make doing the necessary deed easier in the long run.
A draft of air streaming along the buildings carried a mark’s fragrance to her, but the scent she caught wasn’t Godric’s anymore. To her dismay, she’d lost his trail, yet had picked up a different one. Another evil creature lurked in the area. Perhaps he’d know where the warlock she sought was and if he was Godric. She was so close to finding the Winchapel vampire she could taste it. Victory was sweet and would be hers.

Can you tell? I'm excited about my story in this anthology since it's an introduction to a series I'm writing.

A Look At Naomi Clark & her 0.00 read ( #FF @naomi_jay @evernightpub )

Today we have author Naomi Clark visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
What to say? I live in Cambridge in the UK (currently lovely and sunny, but usually not!) with my fiancé, two snakes, and a very needy cat. When I'm not writing, I make perfume and try to pay attention at my day job. I love B-movies and MMA and I own far too many books.

What book are you going to tell us about today? Is it part of a series? If so, what's the order the books should be read in?
Today I'm here to talk about my short story, BOUND BY NIGHT. It's the third in my Brides of Darkness series, but the series can be read in any order. I love this series – it's a mix of gothic historical and erotic romance, and has been a lot of fun to write. It's a bit of a change for me; usually I write urban fantasy, where the romance is never the focus. I've loved switching it up a bit and trying something different!

How'd you/your muse come up with this story?
It all started with the hero's name. I was watching a documentary and noticed one of the film-makers was called Daghan. I thought it was too cool a name not to use, and since my Brides of Darkness books draw on some Germanic influences in terms of names, it was a perfect fit. Once I had Daghan in my head, the rest of the story fell into place very quickly.

Describe the hero in five words.
Cursed, lonely, strong, commanding, tender.

Describe the heroine in five words.
Brave, vulnerable, generous, trusting, innocent.

Who's your favorite character in the book & why?
The hero, of course! I love a good tortured hero and I adore a redemption story – Daghan has both bases covered, so he works for me :)

What's your favorite line in the story?
That's a hard one, but I'll go with this: “There was no way to retrieve her honor, so why not give into her desire?”

A look into the story
BOUND BY NIGHT will be available from Evernight Publishing as a Free Read on June 8th. (Evernight Publishing). You can find out more about me at my blog. The blurb for BOUND BY NIGHT is here:
Fleeing her arranged marriage, Adeline seeks sanctuary in Geistheim Abbey. Within its cursed walls she finds the beautiful, scarred monk, Daghan, who offers her shelter - for a price. Daghan needs a pure soul to break his curse. Adeline isn't sure how pure she can be when she lusts after this stranger so badly. But before they can find out, Adeline's cruel fiancé arrives at Geistheim to reclaim her. And he won't leave without a fight.
~ Excerpt ~
   “Turn.”
She obeyed Daghan’s command and when she did, she saw he’d pushed his hood back. She couldn’t restrain her gasp. He was angelically beautiful: golden-haired and blue eyed. His face was perfection – except for one thing. A vicious scar branded his left cheek, a jagged cross that ran from the corner of his eye down to his lip. She couldn’t help raising her fingers to touch it. Pain filled his eyes as she did, but she didn’t stop. Adeline traced the lines of the scar, and felt the smoothness of his skin contrasted by the roughness of the cross. It didn’t ruin his beauty, she thought, nor did it enhance it. It was simply part of him, as much as those soft lips and sky-coloured eyes. It must have hurt though, and her heart bled for his pain. She wanted to ask how it happened but remembered to bite her tongue just in time.
“You have so many questions in your eyes.” He sounded amused. He ran his fingers over her cheek as she’d done to him, smoothing the pad of his thumb over her lips. She parted her mouth instinctively at his touch, and he slid his thumb inside. Adeline kissed it, trailing her tongue around it. He tasted of rosewood and spice. When he pulled his thumb back, she felt at a loss, but then he trailed his hands down her throat to cup her breasts and she sighed in relief.
“I was a good man,” he said, drawing delicate circles round her ready nipples. “A devout man, like all the monks here. I sought knowledge of our religion and our God, wanting new ways to understand and communicate with the divine. That was my undoing. I delved too deeply into the esoteric and occult. I learned too much and I wanted more. I discovered there was not just a divine realm, but an infernal one too. I found beings of dark power, found them willing to offer that power to men, for a price.” His voice turned bitter. “I didn’t understand the forces I played with. I didn’t think I needed to fear.”
His words sank into Adeline, and she knew she ought to be afraid. She ought to pull away, run away even. But his voice, that beautiful rich voice, kept her pinned. And his touch, so worshipful and full of promise, burned away her fear.
“I made a bargain and corrupted my soul. My brothers fled, knowing me to be cursed. I have waited here for years, Adeline, for a chance to undo my mistakes and now, as I am on the verge of giving up, you come to me.” He gazed at her as though she was a miracle, a divine gift, and it took her breath away. “My corruption can be cleansed, if a pure-hearted soul will save me. Would you save me, Adeline?”
She almost laughed. He had already seduced her. That he would ask her now seemed ridiculous. She was naked in his arms, ready and willing to give her body to him. How pure could she really be? “May I ask one question?”
He smiled and inclined his head.
“What is the nature of your curse?”
“I am shadow. I am darkness. When the sun rises, I am a wraith. I exist only when night falls.” He stared out the window at the storm raging in the black night. “I have prayed to feel the sun on my skin again.”
She kissed him then. She didn’t know if she was pure, or if their union could lift his curse. She didn’t know if it mattered. They were here together, two lost souls seeking sanctuary, and she wanted to offer him all she had to give. So she kissed him deeply, pressing her bare body to his, feeling the strength of him beneath his robes. He slid his hands down her back to cup her rear and lift her to her tiptoes, flexing his hips so his shaft pressed against her. Adeline felt herself grow hot and slick with desire, and she fumbled to pull his heavy robes away.
He laughed roughly and stepped away from her to do it himself. Beneath the discarded robe he wore a simple shirt and breeches, but before Adeline could reach for them, he gripped her hips and dropped to his knees. Holding her firm, he kissed his way up her inner thighs, gentle and slow. He drew patterns on her hips and across her buttocks with his fingers, lazy trails that sparked a desperate need in Adeline for something fiercer. She tangled her fingers in his silky hair, throwing her head back in pleasure as he made his way up to the juncture of her thighs. He licked and kissed at the sensitive skin there, shying away from her aching core but teasing, promising wicked pleasures to come. He traced the curve and crease of her buttocks, one finger slipping over her delicate rear entrance and making her gasp in surprise, before he found her clit. He swept his finger over that pulsing place, increasing the pressure little by little, until Adeline was sure her legs would give out.
Just as she thought she would have to beg him for more, a thunderous sound cut through her bliss. Not thunder itself, but a hammering and a shouting that echoed through the storm and turned her blood cold. "Falken," she whispered. She stumbled away from Daghan, sitting down hard on the bed, her heart racing. "He's found me."
