Welcome special guest: author Stephanie Burkhart ~ @StephBurkhart @GoddessFish #paranormal #historical

Today we have author Stephanie Burkhart visiting.
* Stephanie Burkhart was born and raised in Manchester, New Hampshire. At 18, she joined the U.S. Army. She spent 7 years stationed in Germany. In 1995, she earned a B.S. in Political Science, magna cum laude, from California Baptist University in Riverside, CA and was named the Outstanding Evening College Student. Currently, she works for LAPD as a 911 dispatcher. She's been writing since she was six. Her first published novel is "The Hungarian" with Desert Breeze Publishing.

So, Stephanie Burkhart, what/who inspired you to become a writer?
* Would you believe that the 1970's show, "The Electric Company," did? I used to watch the show and then go to the kitchen table to write homemade comic books of the Spiderman skit I just watched.

When did you attempt your first story? What length was it? What's become of it?
* It was called "Destination: Berlin," and I must have struggled about 10 years to get it right. Eventually I used a vanity press to publish it under a pen name. I was very pleased with the final product, but I pulled it down a couple of years ago because I didn't want to deal with the vanity press anymore. The novel is a sweet military young adult story about 40,000 words. Once I find time, I'll either self-publish or approach a small press with the story.

How many stories did you complete before you sold your first?
* Three, including "Destination: Berlin." The first one I sold was "The Hungarian."

What are the best and worst pieces of writing advice you ever received?
* The worst? Use a vanity press. I suppose there are pros, but they all involve money I don't have.
* The best? Keep reading. Reading really does help to hone your craft as a writer in a variety of ways. Reading introduces new styles, new words, and new ideas.

The book you’re promoting, is it a stand-alone story or part of a series?
* Sunrise Over Brasov is Book 3 in the Moldavian Moon series. The series is about a witching family who struggles to break the werewolf haunting of their family. Book 1 is "The Wolf's Torment," and Book 2 is "Twilight Over Moldavia."

What sparked the idea for the story/series?
* I wanted to write a fairytale in reverse where the princess' kiss has to save the prince. So I wrote "Twilight Over Moldavia" first. Then I had to write about how Stefan got cursed so I wrote Book 1, "The Wolf's Torment," next. After that, I knew I had to write about Michael's struggles so I wrote "Sunrise Over Brasov."

*** Now for some fun info… ***
Would you/have you own(ed) a snake or some other exotic pet?
* When I was 6 or 7, my parents bought chickens. They were cute as chicks, but nasty as full grown chickens. I've had a cat or dog ever since.

Which do you prefer: rain or sun & warm weather or cold weather?
* I suppose it depends on my mood, but I'm generally an optimist so I prefer sun and warm weather to compliment my nature.

If you could live anywhere in the universe, where would it be and why?
* Toughie, for sure! Westros, I think. I'm really into Game of Thrones.

If you were stranded on a desert island and were only allowed to have five modern conveniences with you, what would they be?
* A generator so I would always have electricity, the Internet, a Kindle, a golf cart so I could get around, and a coffee maker.

*** About Stephanie Burkhart’s book… ***
~ Blurb ~
* Rosa Getzi lives a life of intrigue at Poiana Brasov with Clement, a werewolf, and Cassandra, the witch. Her past doesn't matter to her – until she discovers what it holds.
* Prince Michael Sigmaringen joins his sister-in-law, Caroline, and the vampire prince, Darius, in a daring rescue, igniting Rosa's desire to find her family. However, all is not as it appears. Rickard, Rosa's friend, escapes with her. Clement will go to any lengths to get Rosa and Rickard back.
* At Darius' fortress, Michael soon discovers Rickard is a new breed of werewolf – one who can control the change, and Clement hopes to exploit Rickard's abilities.
* Michael's courage, strengths, and convictions will be tested like never before. Can Michael and Rosa find true happiness and the rid the lupine haunting of the Sigmaringens once and for all?
~ Excerpt ~
* He raised his hand and lowered his hood. An inherent strength filled his profile. Confidence. Concern. Relief.
* Rosa's breath jammed in her throat. He looked familiar. He smelled familiar.
* "Rosa, it's Michael. Let's go."
* "I'm not going anywhere with you."
* A frown set against his rugged features. "I don't have time to argue -- now put on a warm dress and cloak."
* "No." She was not going anywhere with him despite the relief in his voice.
* He sighed and shut the door. Moving with fluid grace, he crossed the room, jerked the door to her closet open and threw the items he wanted her to wear on her bed. "Get. Dressed."
* "No." She was determined not to budge, despite the danger outside.
* "Rosa, we're leaving."
* "I'm staying."
* "Why would you want to stay? Clement kidnapped you."
* Disconcerted, she pointedly glanced away from his hard stare. What did he mean by kidnapped? Clement didn't keep her behind bars and feed her only bread and water. Rosa could even go into Brasov to shop as long as Lucien or one of the bodyguards went with her.
* "I'm going to take you back to your mother."
* Her head snapped toward his direction. Mother? Of course she had a mother -- a family, even -- only she had no recollection of them. So why did her body fill with warmth at the mention of her mother by a man she hadn't seen before, but was hauntingly familiar? She pursed her lips, torn by conflicting emotions.
* "Caroline and Darius can't keep this up. Now get dressed or I'll dress you myself."
* "You'll find me an unwilling subject."
* He drew in a deep breath and raked a hand through his thick ebony hair. "You are exasperating."
* "So I've been told."

A Look At Kacey Mark & 'Prom Night in Purgatory' ~ @Kacey_Mark

Today we have author Kacey Mark visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* I'm all about the magic of visual stimulus, tactile writing, and use of all five senses. I love eccentric characters and unpredictable plot turns.
* I enjoy a good book that pulls me into its world and holds me captive until the very last page. But then again, who doesn’t love that?
* I'm often caught snickering at a book in the middle of a crowded room, I love it when people wonder what I’m up to.

What book are you going to tell us about today? Is it part of a series? If so, what's the order the books should be read in?
* PROM NIGHT IN PURGATORY is the first in the PURGATORY series.

How'd you/your muse come up with this story?
* I love exploring local history. I fell in love with an early 1920’s amusement park that had burned down near my home. It had such a glory about it before it was destroyed. So I really want to give it a new life, and a paranormal twist.

Describe the hero in five words.
* Legendary ghost and human collector

Describe the heroine in five words.
* Cancer-stricken conduit to the afterlife

Who's your favorite character in the book & why?
* I love my heroine, Baila, because she’s been through so much. Her cancer has returned. She’s got twenty-five candles on her cake, six months to live, and one middle finger for her slow and painful ending. She’s going to give herself a grand finale. And the legendary Asher’s on the menu.

What's your favorite line in the story?
* I couldn’t pick just one. Maybe a scene? See the excerpt below. :)

A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
* BAILA GREY’S cancer has returned.
* She’s got twenty-five candles on her birthday cake, six months to live, and one middle finger for her slow and painful ending.
* As a conduit to the afterlife and valuable member of her ghost exterminating team, she’s a record holder for most risks taken in a lifetime. She’s not dead yet, but her friends are already morning her. And with her inability to land even a single live boyfriend, she’s ready to shoot that record sky high. Conjuring the legendary ghost of ASHER LANDIN, might be the best option for a grand finale. But to face that stone wall of sex appeal with a terminal illness, would mean risking his rejection with no second chances left. Game over.
* Asher lives for his job—not that you could really call it living, he’s dead. But it’s all he exists for. As The Collector, his gateway to the ever-changing world above only swings one way, and the morsels of life he gathers is his only defense against insanity. That is, until a tart little chasse by the name of Baila breaks through, and he truly learns the meaning of insane. With his father ready to hand over the family business and his step-mother fighting for power, Asher needs to prove his ability to control not only the realm of purgatory, but his increasing urge to chase Baila around like a lunatic.
~ Excerpt ~
* His fingertips traced a slow circle around her belly button, her stomach muscled tightened but she managed to keep still. Mostly. His fingers roved lower, then back and forth along the lacy edge of her panties. He slipped them to one side and tipped his head. “Tell me, Doll. How do you like to be touched?”
* Baila bit her lip and looked again to the door.
* “You won’t say? Want to show me instead?”
* She squeezed her eyes shut. Like that would be any easier?
* “Mmmm. Without your direction, this’ll be more time consuming than I planned,” he expelled a small sigh and shifted his body lower, then pressed a kiss to the crevice of her inner thigh. “Course, I’m sure you’ll recall we don’t have much concept of time here anyway.”

Sinfully Sexy Saturday w. Tyler Robbins @Robin_Badillo @evernightpub #SSS #gay

It's Saturday! Yay! Here's a sinfully good treat by author, Tyler Robbins, to add to a great day. Welcome, Tyler!

First, what would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* Robin Badillo and her pseudonym, Tyler Robbins, is a down to earth mother of four, born and raised in a small Texas town where she still resides with her nearly grown kids and a pack of spoiled dogs.
* A fan of paranormal and southern romance novels, Robin does her best to offer up a plethora of tasty morsels to satisfy her reader’s appetite. Whether mainstream and/or paranormal erotic romance or Tyler’s LGBT romance line, Robin strives to create characters who are endearing and relatable.
* Adversity is Robin’s motivation, which explains why she’s a true believer that grey hair is simply God’s graffiti.

What are you going to tell us about today?
* My MM story Broken Neon.

A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
* Country music singer, Zane Alexander has struggled to keep his sexuality a secret, but hiding his attraction to their new guitarist, Finn Presswood, is damn near impossible.
* On the run from a dangerous ex-lover, Finn has secrets of his own, but his feelings for Zane isn’t one of them.
* When the new song they co-wrote leads to a recording contract with a major Nashville label, it becomes clear that their lives are about to change. Unfortunately, secrets are harder to hide in the limelight, so Zane fake-dating a famous supermodel whose career is on the line as well, seems like the best solution for everyone.
* Their dreams are finally within their grasp until Finn’s past catches up, and no matter how much the two men love each other, happiness is never guaranteed.
* If good intentions pave the road to hell, then broken neon paves the road to Nashville.
Be Warned: m/m sex, rimming
~ Excerpt ~
* Finn’s lids lowered to half-mast and his nostrils flared. His cheek flamed red, and the emotion boiling under his skin became nearly tangible. “I don’t want you involved with this. I have to leave. If I don’t…” Finn clenched his jaw as his eyes glistened in the dark.
* “If you don’t what?”
* His breathing accelerated. The veins running up and down his neck stuck out, and his entire body tensed. “If I don’t, I’ll only bring you trouble. That’s what the Presswood boys do best. We bring trouble.”
* Zane inched closer. “I can handle any kind of trouble you got.” He slid his hand up the side of Finn’s neck and cupped his jaw. “Trust me.” He moved slow, so slow he thought he might never taste Finn’s lips again as he cautiously leaned in for a kiss.
* Finn didn’t back away. He stood frozen, his body hard and rigid with his jaw ticking adamantly. His body said no, but as Zane stared deep into his lover’s eyes, he could see the burn. The heat he’d felt so many times. The same yearning that Zane himself had been overwhelmed by the last few weeks. That fire only Finn could make him feel was right there, glaring back at him, begging to be stoked.
* He paused centimeters from Finn’s lips, and inhaled his unmistakable scent. “For fuck’s sake, say it.”
* Finn’s bottom lip quivered, and his crushed expression made Zane’s heart ache. “I love you.”
* As the words left Finn’s mouth, Zane inhaled them as though they were oxygen. He pressed his lips to Zane’s, gently parted them, then ventured in, slow and sure until Finn sucked his tongue in further, kissing him in return.
* Finn hugged him close, his head shifting from side to side as their tongues tangled and swirled. He lowered one hand to Zane’s crotch and rubbed up and down, exciting Zane even more.
* His cock throbbed when Finn dipped his hand inside his jeans. He scrambled to unfasten them, allowing Finn to have his way.
* Finn pulled Zane’s cock from his boxers and immediately lowered to his knees. Finn’s warm, wet mouth felt like heaven as he licked, slurped, and suckled the crown. As Finn was slip-sliding his tongue up and down the shaft, Zane’s heart pounded.
* He eased down onto the sofa, careful not to create a void between his cock and the confines of Finn’s luscious mouth. That probably wouldn’t have happened anyway with the way Finn gripped Zane’s cock at the base.
* Zane thrust himself upward forcing his cock deeper, scraping the back of Finn’s throat. He watched, enthralled with the care Finn took sucking him off. His technique had purpose, and his grunts and moans indicated he enjoyed pleasuring Zane as much as Zane enjoyed being pleasured.
* He combed his fingers through his lover’s hair. “Look at me, baby.”
* Finn’s gaze drifted upward with his cheeks hollowed out, his lips glistening with Zane’s juices, and sounds of their heavy breaths surrounded them.
* “So fucking beautiful.”
* Finn titled his head to the side, eyes still locked onto Zane’s, and he wrapped his tongue up the length of Zane’s shaft. When he reached the tip, Finn rose up, crawling higher until his lips met Zane’s.
* The kiss was wet and sweet as Zane tasted his own pre-cum.
* Their bodies mashed together as they writhed on the narrow sofa. “My room.”
* “No.” Finn shook his head. “I want you here. Now.”

A Day With Teri Behind the Scenes ~ @TeriLRiggs @GoddessFish #suspence #romance

Today we have author Teri Riggs visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* Teri Riggs was destined to be a writer. As a small girl she didn’t read bedtime stories, she made up her own. Who needed Little Red Riding Hood or The Three Little Pigs when there were so many great tales bouncing around in her head? When she grew up and became a mother to three little girls, she continued the tradition of making up bedtime stories. On the occasions she chose to tell conventional fairytales, Teri usually gave them a bit of tweaking here and there or added a new ending. Her girls loved it.
* After her daughters had the nerve to actually grow up and leave home, Teri discovered she had a passion for writing and jumped right in. It came as no surprise she chose to write mysteries and happily-ever-after’s since that’s the genres she loves to read.
* Teri lives in Marietta, Georgia with her husband, one of her daughters and two dogs that seem to think they rule the world. And some days Teri thinks maybe they do.
* Teri still frequently tells herself stories as she falls asleep. The only difference now is she wakes up the next morning and turns her bedtime stories into books.

What's a day behind the scenes with you like?
* Most mornings I drag myself out of the bed, throw on my clothes, and pick up around the house a little (and I mean very little). Hubby and I always have breakfast together and spend some time playing with my two very spoiled puppies. Afterwards, I pack my laptop and head to my office. I set up my work area, grab a coffee or tea, and park my butt at my desk. By this point it’s usually around 10am.
* I start by checking email and taking care of anything that needs answered right away. Then I look through my calendar to see if I have any promo’s running. If I do, I take time to see how they’re coming along. Next I make a quick run through Face Book and check a few blogs. Then I move to my favorite part of the day…hanging out with the characters I create. I put them through all kinds of crazy, dangerous, and romantic situations. And they still love me! Such good friends.
* Usually by 5-5:30 I pack it in, go home, and put on my Suzy Homemaker hat for a few hours. After I’ve achieved as much domestic bliss as I can stand, I try to work for another hour on the business kind of stuff. I answer or delete the saved-for-later emails—plus any new ones. I take a few more runs through FB and close up shop.
* The rest of the night is spent with hubby, the puppies, and any of the kids who are around. We love to spend time watching a good movie or show. Then it’s off to bed. Once Hubby is serenating me with his romantic snoring, I pull out a book and read until the wee hours of the morning, usually 3-4am. Using my iPhone, I make one final run through emails and FB—yes, I am a FB addict. The good news is, as an insomniac I get a few extra hours to play!

A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
* The Las Vegas Mayoral race is heating up, and the incumbent doesn’t have a prayer. Wealthy real estate speculator Nick Campenelli, who wants to legalize prostitution in Clark County, and former pastor Louis St. Louis, running on a 'clean-up-Vegas-by-getting-rid-of-the-whores' platform, are the front runners.
* They’re also front runners on the suspect list for a string of murders. Kennedy O’Brien, four-year detective with cop blood running in her veins, and her partner Wilder “Wild Thing” James, a veteran, are determined to find the man who’s murdering prostitutes who work the wrong side of the street, and they don’t care how important or politically active he is.
* The killer is a man with a mission. He stalks the women before he kills them, leaving a “BEFORE” photo on their bodies, and sending an “AFTER” shot to the local news hound. Ed Hershey, an aging newscaster with just the right amount of grey in his hair, is determined to turn this story into a network gig, and his interference, along with the LVTVS legal team, are making Kennedy and Wilder look bad. Campenelli’s good looks and charm, and St. Louis’ vitriolic hatred of prostitutes are muddying the waters too, and now the killer seems to have taken a liking to Kennedy.
* So the big question remains. Can she get him before he gets her?
~ Excerpt ~
* Nick, leaning against a marble pillar with his arms crossed, observed the detective as she took in the view. He tried to figure out what was going on in that beautiful head of hers.
* She was stunning. Her hair, a rich sable color, fell just below her shoulders. Long, dark lashes surrounded rare blue-violet eyes. Her lips were full and softly sculpted. She was tall and lithe, and when she moved, he got a glimpse of the soft, womanly curves hidden beneath her jacket. She wrapped her arms around her waist.
* Was that a little shiver?
* She tilted her head back and took a deep breath, and then let it out with a long sigh.
* “Are you chilled, Detective? I can get you a wrap.”
* She turned and snarled. “I just lost my balance for a second. You shouldn’t sneak up on a person like that. You’re lucky I didn’t shoot you.” She didn’t give him a chance to respond. “Why in the hell would anyone want an office way up here anyway?”
* He found the slight Irish cadence that had slipped into her voice, very, very sexy. “For the view of course. I’ve caught you admiring it. Or was the sigh for me?”
* “Don’t flatter yourself, Slick. Not that it’s any of your business, but that was an attempt to keep my morning coffee down. The ride up could make a bird nauseous.”
* “Not fond of heights, I take it. Too bad. Being at the top gives a person a much clearer picture of everything.” He stepped forward and stood side by side, shoulder to shoulder with her, enjoying the view himself. “Can you honestly deny how great the view is from here?”
* “Being this high up makes my heart pound and knees weak. I feel so woozy I could hurl. But strangely enough, I can’t help but look.” Her voice softened. “It’s a really spectacular view.”
* Nick could tell the minute Kennedy realized what she’d said. She turned to face him, looking totally mortified. Her eyes narrowed and her body stiffened.
* “I’m glad you enjoy it, Detective. Give yourself a few minutes and the weak knees and the urge to hurl, as you so delicately put it, will go away. Then you can relax and enjoy the panorama.”
* “Sorry, I don’t have the time to stand around getting off on scenery. And I sure as hell don’t have time to worry about whether or not I speak delicately. I have a few more questions I need you to answer.” Her voice had regained its hard edge.
* “No problem, Detective. Let’s move over to my desk, or the couch. Whichever you’d feel more comfortable at.”
* “Your desk will be fine. This shouldn’t take long, Mr. Campenelli.”
* “Please, call me Nick.” He led her over to his desk and offered her a chair across from his own.
* “Mr. Campenelli—”
* “Nick, please,” he interrupted.
* “I’m not here to make nice, Mr. Campenelli. I’d like for you to tell me about the photos of prostitutes you have plastered on the break room wall at your campaign headquarters. Can you explain what that’s all about?”
* He felt the beginnings of anger snake up his spine, then take root at the base of his skull. “I see you’ve been talking to Ed Hershey. He asked me the same question and I told him to go to hell as it was none of his business. I assume since you’re wearing that nice shiny badge, I wouldn’t get away with giving you the same explanation.”
* “You assume right.”

Welcome special guest: author Sonia Koso ~ @GoddessFish

Today we have author Sonia Koso visiting!
* Sonia Koso grew up in the eccentricity-filled piney woods of North East Texas. She has been writing since an early age and considers it her first love. After receiving a B.A. in English Writing, her life took a drastic turn and she went to law school. Sonia practiced law for over a decade but was drawn back to writing in 2012. Sonia's stories feature strong women, good-looking guys, legal dilemmas and a dose of humor. Smart Blondes borrows many characters from her childhood as well as her legal career.
* Sonia does most of her writing at her condo in Austin’s hip SOCO district. It’s in walking distance from landmarks including Lady Bird Lake, the Continental Club, and the Congress Avenue Bat Bridge. When not writing, Sonia divides her time between the live music of Austin and the sunshine of Boca Raton. She loves Tex-Mex food, blue water, cocktails and good friends. Sonia often dreams of a man who can do his own laundry and a walk-in closet with a chandelier…but not necessarily in that order.

What is your favorite quote and why?
* I have a quote from Madeline Albright at the bottom of my web page: “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.” Early in my career, I worked under managers who were “mean girls.” They managed via fear and did not want other women to get ahead. It was miserable and disappointing. I believe that if women worked together, we could solve most of society’s problems.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
* In Austin, there’s a local chain called Amy’s Ice Cream. I swear I can gain a pound if I walk slowly past one of their stores. I’ve never had an Amy’s flavor I didn’t like but I’m especially fond of their chocolate ice cream with junior mints crushed in it.

Which mythological creature are you most like?
* In Greek mythology, Metis was a Titan goddess known for developing strategy. I share with her the impulse to think things through and attempt to develop a plan of action.

What are four things you can’t live without?
* My iphone, my sonicare toothbrush, chocolate and something (pen, pencil, laptop –I don’t care) to write with.

What is your favorite television show?
* Mad Men. I love how it depicts the time period. The characters have a great deal of depth and keep evolving…and Jon Hamm is, well, Jon Hamm.

*** About Sonia Koso’s book… ***
~ Blurb ~
* Austin socialite Carrie Pryce has no clue her criminally charming husband is carrying on with another woman until she returns home unexpectedly, mistakes the sounds of passion for a home-invasion robbery and accidently shoots him in the backside. Stunned, Carrie drives all night to her quirky hometown and collapses in a near-catatonic state.
* A crew of ladies spanning three generations realize it’s up to them to help Carrie get her life out of the ditch. Known as the “Presbyterian Mafia,” these are not sweet old gals. They have a book club that never reads, a garden club that doesn’t garden, and a bible study class that gossips about the Methodists. They’re known around town for antics including catfights, car chases and Voodoo rituals. The women enlist Carrie’s former childhood best friend Portia (now a lawyer) and her flamboyant cousin Eric (recently returned from New York) in their effort.
* While dealing with the after-effects of her imprudent gunplay and managing a hair color disaster, Carrie meets Rhett Richards. He’s an attractive oil field worker who can make women think un-Christian thoughts by the mere act of wearing a pair of tight wranglers. Carrie soon learns that hometowns can be the perfect places to bury old scandals and create new ones.

Back to Austin...
* The Texas Chili Parlor was two blocks from Deane’s condo. On the short walk over, she explained that when the legislature was in session, it was very popular with politicians.
* “Many laws have been drafted and many alliances forged chili and beer at the Parlor,” Deane said. “It’s also a haven for locals who don’t jive with all the skinny jean wearing hipsters moving to town.”
* Deane walked them past a couple of motorcycles parked out front and opened the door to the mostly neon-lit establishment. She was immediately met by a man sitting on a stool at the end of the bar. He was wearing a Rolling Stones t-shirt Famous bar in Cozumel and frayed cargo shorts and had a head of coarse hair the color of hay.
* “Deane!” He said, standing up to hug her. Deane kissed him on the cheek. “Oh no,” he said. “I want the real thing,” and proceeded to kiss her square on the lips.
* “Now James, I’m here with home folks. You don’t want to ruin my reputation.”
* The man smiled and vacated his seat, offering it to Deane.
* “James, this is Carrie and Eric,” Deane said. “Carrie, Eric, my friend James Roberts.”
* Pep, the bartender, who was sporting a long salt-and pepper goatee, came over. He had a pink drink ready and handed it to Deane.
* “What can I get you folks?” he asked.
* “Pep,” Deane purred. “These two need Drew drinks. Badly”
* “Rough day?” he asked, eyeing Carrie’s still slightly red eyes.
* “All work and no play,” Deane said, taking a sip of the drink.
* “What is that?” Eric asked, eyeing the slightly pink concoction.
* “It’s vodka, cranberry, soda, a little lime and more vodka,” Pep responded as his deft hands assembled the mixture.
* “Good starter,” James said. “But Deane needs a shot.”
* Eric and Carrie stared at each other. Who knew Deane Linley did shots?
* “James, you know that shooting liquor leads to shooting pool,” Deane said with a wink. “And I’d feel bad about taking all your money again.”
* “That’s a good point. I’m still smarting from our last game.”
* Carrie and Eric looked at each other again. Who knew Deane could play pool? And who would’ve guessed she might be good at it? Was the Chili Parlor the portal to an alternate universe?

A Look At Melissa Love & 'Love On Death Row' ~ @authoressmeliss #womensfic

Today we have author Melissa Love visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* Melissa Love began her love of writing since picking up her first urban fictional book. She wanted to turn her love of reading into writing. In 2001 and 2002 she went the self-publishing route and published 3 books. She knew that self-publishing wasn’t the rout she wanted to take anymore, so she continued on to write more manuscripts until she was able to get signed with a major publishing company. Writing has become a way for her to be creative in telling compelling stories and memorable characters of lies and deceits. She is also a member of the Motown Writer Network and she currently resides in Detroit, Michigan with her two daughters.

What book are you going to tell us about today? Is it part of a series? If so, what's the order the books should be read in?
* I will be discussing my new novel entitled Love On Death Row and it is a standalone book.

How'd you/your muse come up with this story?
* I got this idea from working in a female institution as a correctional officer in Virginia, and also while watching an episode of Lifetime Movie Network.

Describe the hero in five words.
* I wouldn’t call my male character a hero by any means necessary. I will put in word that he is abusive, controlling, business minded, dominating, and arrogant.

Describe the heroine in five words.
* I would describe De’Nesha as some that is hurtful, vengeful, a loving mother, loving wife, and faithful.

If ménage/multiple partners, then pick a third hero or heroine to describe in five words.
* Betrena, I would say she is honest, loyal, looks out for your best interest, a good listener, and cares about what is best for you even though it might hurt to hear it.

Who's your favorite character in the book & why?
* I would have to say Betrena because she told you have felt and didn’t hold anything back especially when it came to Terence.

What's your favorite line in the story?
* Good one my favorite line in the story is when De’Nesha and her two best friends when out to lunch. They want her to go to the proper authorities to report the abuse she was having at home, but she blurted out that she was the proper authorities.

A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
* How Far Would You Go To Save Your Marriage? From the outside De’Nesha Cole had the picture perfect life with two beautiful children and a loving husband. But on the outside, Terence was far from perfect. He was violent, controlling and abusive. When her best friends find out what’s been going on behind closed doors, they encourage her to go to the authorities, but she refused. She was determined to make her marriage work no matter at what cost and death was no exception.
~ Excerpt ~
* “These are for you! He said as he slowly brought his hands around to show me the dozen of red and yellow roses he had gotten for me. He kissed me on the back of my neck. “Well, do you like it?”
* I couldn’t believe he was acting so casual after just punching me forty minutes ago. He must be suffering from personality dissociation.
* “Of course,” I replied with a fake smile on my bruised face. “Thank you, baby.”
* “Can you forgive me for the way I have been acting? I know that’s my child you’re carrying. Is it a boy or a girl?” He asked as he rubs my stomach and kissed me tenderly.
* “I don’t know yet, it’s too early to tell, but when I go back next week I can ask the doctor and you can go with me if you want to?”
* “Hell, yeah, this is my first child, so I got to be there. I called my parents, and they are so thrilled too.”
* The only reason I hugged Terence and forgave him is because of our baby, and I know it sounds stupid, but this is our first child and I refuse to be just another single black woman raising a child alone.

Sinfully Sexy Saturday w. Beth D. Carter & 'As Midnight Loves the Moon' ~ @BethDCarter @evernightpub # SSS #menage #shifters

It's Saturday! Yay! Here's a sinfully good treat by author, Beth D. Carter, to add to a great day. Welcome, Beth!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* I like writing about the very ordinary girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances, so my heroines will probably never be lawyers, doctors or corporate highrollers. I try to write characters who aren't cookie cutters and push myself to write complicated situations that I have no idea how to resolve, forcing me to think outside the box. I love writing characters who are real, complex and full of flaws, heroes and heroines who find redemption through love.
* I’ve been pretty fortunate in life to experience some amazing things. I’ve lived in France, traveled throughout Europe, Australia and New Zealand. I am a mom to an amazing little boy. I’m surrounded by friends and family. I hate washing dishes but I love cooking. I hate washing clothes but I love wearing them. Writing my bio is difficult because I never know what to say so I hope you like this one. My favorite color is red but I look best in black (it’s slimming). I hate people who don't pick up their dog's crap in public places, people who don’t use turn signals, and I really hate people who are rude and condescending. I especially hate discrimination in all and every form. And although I love holding a book in my hand, I absolutely adore my ereader, whom I’ve named Ruby.

What book are you going to tell us about today?
* Today I’ll be talking about my newest release titled “As Midnight Loves the Moon”. At this point in time, it is not part of a series but I do have an idea for another book set in the same world.

How'd you/your muse come up with this story?
* I had a couple of different muses for this story. It was first to be a vampire mystery, and then it morphed into a M/M story. And then finally morphed into a M/M/F erotica romance.

Describe the hero in five words.
* Wayde: Carefree, Spontaneous, Strong, Faithful, Loyal

Describe the heroine in five words.
* Daphne: Sick, Resigned, Caring, Devoted, Accepting

If ménage/multiple partners, then pick a third hero or heroine to describe in five words.
* Alex: Warrior, Uptight, Humble, Loving, Strong

Who's your favorite character in the book & why?
* I think it would have to be Wayde because he was fun to write. The witty banter he has with Alex was a delight to hammer out, and I loved discovering his hidden sword and karate talents.

What's your favorite line in the story?
* I like the witty repartee between Alex and Wayde. For instance:
* “You expected me to divulge all my secrets?”
* “I suppose talking your opponent to death is another tactic?”
* “I’m very good at a lot of things.”

A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
* Wayde Wallace is a vampire. He’s been alone for a long time, until he smells the sunshine scent of a woman and finds Daphne Sabella. Her blood smells intoxicating until he catches the stench of sickness upon her and realizes Daphne is dying.
* Alexander Malden is a Shade cop sent to patrol the supernaturals who lives among humans. A rogue vampire is killing women and he thinks Wayde is the monster because only a trickster can make him feel such lust and longing.
* To prove his innocence, Wayde goes out to find the real rogue vampire and Alex can’t help but follow because the mating bond has already settled between them. And when they believe they can finally help Daphne, she’s become the next victim. Now they must rescue her and turn her before her heart gives out.
~ Excerpt ~
* “Daphne, I can’t imagine you not being in my life,” Wayde told her as he held out his other hand, the one that wasn’t holding onto Alex. “That’s why you will get better, because from that very first night…you were mine.”
* She bit her lip and tears welled up in her eyes. “I was born with my heart valves messed up,” she said softly. “My parents were told I wouldn’t live. They gave up on me.”
* “I won’t give up on you,” he vowed.
* “Me, neither,” Alex said. “And I think you fit perfectly with us.”
* “But Daphne,” Wayde said, taking a deep breath. “There’s something about me that I need to explain—”
* “That you’re a vampire?” she asked, interrupting him.
* “Yes, that I’m a vampire,” he finished and then blinked. “Wait. How did you know that?”

A Look At Tamsin Baker & 'Getting a Raise' ~ @evernightpub #gay #rotg

Today we have author Tamsin Baker visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* Tamsin Baker read sexy romance for years, skipping the story to find the 'good bits'. When she found Erotic romance and Erotica, it was like coming home to people who understood. When it was time to write, the world expanded and she knew this was what she wanted to do forever.

What are you going to tell us about today?
* Thanks so much for hosting me on your blog today! I’m super excited about my first real Evernight release of the year, Getting a Raise. It’s a short m/m that I just adored writing and hope you guys enjoy it too.

A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
* Nick is the most beautiful, successful, amazing man—just ask his executive assistant Tayte.
* Tayte’s been in love with his boss from the moment he set eyes on him. But two years working with him and Tayte isn’t even sure Nick is gay.
* But it’s time for his contract evaluation and Nick wants to give Tayte more than just a raise.
~ Excerpt ~
* “Hey, Tayte.”
* The insipid voice of Connor Turner bounced into Tayte’s brain and he suppressed the shudder that rose. He lifted his gaze and took in the spectrum of color before him.
* “Hey, Connor.”
* Connor, who was the assistant of Greg Scholl, the man just beneath Nick on the totem pole, flounced up and rested his hip on Tayte’s desk.
* “So… found out if Nick is gay yet?”
* Tayte forced a smile to his lips and sat up straighter in his chair. He didn’t know, much to his chagrin. Even if he did, he certainly wouldn’t be announcing it to the biggest gossip in the building.
* “Not my business, Connor.”
* Connor laughed and winked. “I’ll take that as a no. You know, they say Nick only wants male assistants because he has a super jealous wife at home who can’t handle the idea of him having a hot secretary.”
* Tayte inhaled sharply through his nose and turned his smile up a notch.
* “I haven’t encountered a wife, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t one.”
* And it was true. Tayte hadn’t encountered any wives, girlfriends, no significant other at all. However, that didn’t mean anything, since Nick received a lot of calls on his cell, but after two years, Tayte was starting to think Nick was single.
* But Hetero or Homo? That was the million dollar question.
* “I have heaps of work to do, Connor, and I’m sure you do too.”
* Connor giggled and stepped back, his hips swinging as he moved back toward the lift.
* “Oh, I’ve been working since sunrise. You know how it is.” He winked and laughed, turning away without waiting for Tayte to respond.
* “No, but you certainly do.” Tayte answered anyway, grinding his teeth in frustration for a minute. He hated those sorts of guys. He didn’t mind effeminate gay men. Hell, he’d fucked more than his fair share of them over the years. But guys that deliberately acted ‘gay’ when it wasn’t their natural disposition just pissed him off. Not to mention how much men, and women for that matter, who slept their way to the top, and Connor was a prime example of that, really grated on his nerves.
* “Well, you can get in line behind me if you want Nick, Connor, because I’m not moving.” Tayte muttered to himself and scanned over his list of daily jobs. Wow. Lucky Nick was out of the office today, or he’d never get all that done.
* He worked all afternoon, not stopping when everyone else left at five. He really should go home, but what was waiting for him there? Two idiotic housemates and a pile of dirty washing.
* “You could actually go out. Get laid.” He muttered to himself once again, furious he wasn’t excited about another one-night stand.
* But how could he be? Ten minutes with some random guy? Yuck, he’d had enough of that sort of life.
* “You could, I’m sure.” Nick’s voice boomed through the foyer and Tayte cried out as shock had him jumping back from his desk, his heart leaping into his throat before settling to pound against his rib cage as he looked up at his boss.
* “Fuck, you scared me.”
* Nick walked closer, pulling at his tie and letting it hang on his shirt in a casual way.
* “Why are you still here, Tayte? You’re young and beautiful. You should be out getting your cock sucked by some lovely little thing.”
* Heat flowed up into Tayte’s cheeks and he glanced down at his computer, quickly shutting down all the open programs. He’d never heard Nick speak like that, and the crude words were turning him on in a shameful way. Nothing better than a man who could talk dirty.
* “Ah, well, I had to finish a few things and I, ah, l…lost track of time. I’ll g…get out of your way and h…head home now though.”
* Tayte was stuttering, but he couldn’t help it. He was as embarrassed as the day his mother had found him jerking off in the bathroom when he was fifteen.
* “Don’t rush, if you don’t have to go. Stay.”

Welcome special guest: author Liz Crowe ~ @beerwencha2 @GoddessFish #family #saga

Today we have author Liz Crowe visiting!
* Amazon best-selling author, beer blogger and beer marketing expert, mom of three, and soccer fan, Liz Crowe lives Ann Arbor. She has decades of experience in sales and fund raising, plus an eight-year stint as a three-continent, ex-pat trailing spouse.
* Her early forays into the publishing world led to a groundbreaking fiction subgenre, “Romance for Real Life,” which has gained thousands of fans and followers interested less in the “HEA” and more in the “WHA” (“What Happens After?”). More recently she is garnering even more fans across genres with her latest novels, which are more character-driven fiction, while remaining very much “real life.”
* With stories set in the not-so-common worlds of breweries, on the soccer pitch, in successful real estate offices and at times in exotic locales like Istanbul, Turkey, her books are unique and told with a fresh voice. The Liz Crowe backlist has something for any reader seeking complex storylines with humor and complete casts of characters that will delight, frustrate and linger in the imagination long after the book is finished.

So, Liz Crowe, what/who inspired you to become a writer?
* I did, I guess. I was not someone who always dreamed of being a writer. But I have been a huge reader for a long time and I have spent a ton of years admiring the storytelling talents of people like Margaret Atwood, Anne Tyler, Stephen King, Diane Moriarty and others. So, I just sat down one day and wrote a scene…but that leads me to your next question I think!

When did you attempt your first story? What length was it? What's become of it?
* I wrote a scene between 2 high powered, highly strung, grown up real estate agents in the deserted hallway of their office in the summer of 2009. That scene became the first in a novel called FLOOR TIME that started life as a real door-stop of a book at about 175,000 words (it got divided into 3 books eventually). That book became the first of a 8.5 book STEWART REALTY series that really launched my writing career when it was published in 2012. It includes ESSENCE OF TIME, which is “book 4” of the series but is also the first “Stewart Realty Stand Alone Novel” that I recently re-released with a new cover and added scenes.

How many stories did you complete before you sold your first?
* The above mentioned Floor Time was not the first book I sold. It was “complete” (and dreadful as most first drafts of first novels are) when I sold a novella called “The Rookie.” That book is no longer available as I have plans to turn it and its subsequent “Brewing Passion” series into something much better---you will find them on Goodreads of course as those folks don’t seem to think they should pull them. It was published in 2010 but as I say, is no longer available. It was the 2nd book I wrote.

What are the best and worst pieces of writing advice you ever received?
* The BEST: Never underestimate the value of a legit, hard edit by a professional.
* The WORST: Write formula because it “sells.”

The book you’re promoting, is it a stand-alone story or part of a series?
* ESSENCE OF TIME is part of the larger, 8.5 novel story arc of the Stewart Realty series HOWEVER it is one of 3 “Stand Alone Novels” within the series. In other words, you can easily obtain maximum reading enjoyment reading ESSENCE OF TIME without having read the first 3 books as it is the story of a different “set” of characters you meet in the first 3 books. The other Stand alones include: MUTUAL RELEASE and GOOD FAITH.
* However, if you want the “full effect” of getting to know the characters early then reading “their story,” read in this order: 1. FLOOR TIME; 2. SWEAT EQUITY; 3. CLOSING COSTS; 4. ESSENCE OF TIME; 5. CONDITIONAL OFFER; 6. ESCALATION CLAUSE; 7. MUTUAL RELEASE; 8. GOOD FAITH; 9. HOUSE RULES (Jack Gordon prequel Novella)

What sparked the idea for the story/series?
* My world as (former) high powered, highly strung, successful real estate agent in Ann Arbor.

*** Now for some fun info… ***
Would you/have you own(ed) a snake or some other exotic pet?
* NOPE. I am terrified of rodents, snakes and wild animals.

Which do you prefer: rain or sun & warm weather or cold weather?
* Sunny and warm, hands down.

If you could live anywhere in the universe, where would it be and why?
* The coast of Turkey (I lived in Istanbul for a while) at the corner of the Mediterranean and Aegean seas.

If you were stranded on a desert island and were only allowed to have five modern conveniences with you, what would they be?
* My laptop, fast internet access, great coffee, great beer. I only need 4.

*** About Liz Crowe’s book… ***
~ Blurb ~
* A “take life by the throat” philosophy has always served Rob well. It keeps him focused, forcing emotions and potential relationships to take a back seat to his aspirations. But once every obstacle has been conquered and he’s achieved his goal—executive chef at a famous Chicago restaurant—he must acknowledge that he has reached his mid-thirties very much alone.
* Blake has just jettisoned his dream job—head of a fast-growing craft microbrewery—to escape from the woman who shattered his soul. Arriving at a Chicago beer festival prepared to drown his sorrows before moving on he is miserable and numb.
* Fate throws the men together altering their respective worlds forever.
* Once Rob reveals the personal demon that has haunted him for years, Blake allows himself to fully trust again, and admits he wants a child. But a mutual attraction evolves out of a business arrangement with the woman hired as their surrogate, which has the potential to destroy an already delicate status quo.
* But time is of the essence, and becomes the one luxury they don't have.
* An honest depiction of a modern relationship mosaic reminding us to treasure every single moment we are allowed to love and be loved.
~ Excerpt ~
Rated PG 13 for language and implied ménage relationship
* Rob interrupted him, keeping his distance, his voice low and calm. “I don’t want to do anything that will make you unhappy. It’s all I do anymore it seems. I know, I know, me being sick doesn’t make you unhappy it makes you mad. Whatever. Listen,” Rob said, taking the few steps between them and pulling Blake to his feet. “You look like you’re about to walk in front of a firing squad. Fuck it. Let’s call it off.”
* “No.” Blake let himself be held a moment, listened to the sound of his lover’s beating heart, his arms wrapped around the man’s too-thin waist. “It’s okay. She’s…I mean, I think it will be fine.”
* Rob tilted his chin up. Blake studied Rob’s face, stared into his brown eyes, memorized it, for later. They both smiled. Blake pressed a quick kiss to Rob’s lips, then began to disentangle himself. They needed to get on with it. Lila would be sitting and waiting by now. It would be rude to…But Rob held onto him, his grip strong. The lips he pressed to Blake’s, parting them with his tongue were firm and had a familiar urgency.
* Blake broke the kiss first, held onto Rob’s face. “Keep that up and the poor girl will have to pay her own expensive dinner bill. Come on, let’s go. I’m tired of waiting on you.” He brushed a hand across Rob’s chest, and lower, grinning. “Save this. I’ll take some later.”
* The ride downtown shimmered with anxious energy. Rob hummed, a clear sign of his nervousness. Blake tapped his fingers on the armrest, fiddled with the window, the HVAC, the radio.
* “God damn it.” Rob smacked his hand away from the controls. “Cut it out. You aren’t making either of us feel any better.”
* Blake blew out a long breath. “It’s not like I know how to act here. I mean, what the hell are we supposed talk about? The bank transfer of the money? The process? Who gets her first? If she wants it in both…”
* “Stop it.” Rob’s voice was strained, his jaw clenched. “I don’t know either but I damn sure am not gonna ask her if she wants a DP. At least not on the first date.”
* Blake laughed so loud he snorted. Rob shot him a sideways look as he pulled the F-150 into a parking spot behind the restaurant and put it into park. They both sat, frozen with indecision and anxiety.
* “Do you remember Paris?” Blake put a hand on Rob’s thigh. The other man’s muscles twitched under his palm. “That girl, from the nightclub? Our first vacation?”
* “Yeah.” Rob kept his hands on the steering wheel, eyes trained straight ahead. “What about it?”
* Blake sighed. Rob’s body language, his clenched teeth and white knuckled grip only ramped up his own stress. But he needed them to get past this. They had to go into the restaurant, meet with Lila, eat, drink some wine then…possibly…go home and…He shook his head. He ran fingers through Rob’s hair, the silkiness of the new growth brought a smile to his face. “That was pretty easy. I mean, you know, my first time as three.”
* Rob turned to him, anguish suffusing every pore of his handsome face and filling his eyes. He gripped Blake’s hand, yanked him across the console and kissed him hard. When he broke away, Blake touched his face. “You’re the expert here. Not me. The ladies love your tall, blond, Germanic hotness. I’m along for the ride. I’ll…watch and learn.”
* “Don’t be an idiot.” Rob leaned his head back, hand over his eyes. “Jesus, this is…about as fucked up as it gets.”
* “No, it’s not. Even if you weren’t sick we would be doing it. You know that. We wanted a baby.”
* “You wanted a baby. I’m perfectly fine without…”
* “You told me a thousand times you weren’t doing this to humor me. Were you lying then, or are you lying now?” Blake’s ears got hot and his chest tightened but he clamped down on the anger. “All we have to do is figure out how to share. That is one thing we know we both need to….practice. I don’t want her to think we’re a couple of barely evolved Neanderthals.”
* Rob turned to him, his eyes still bright with unshed tears. “Even though we sort of are?”
* Blake shrugged, unable to resist a smile. Rob sighed and climbed out, meeting Blake at the back bumper. He grabbed his arm. “I love you Blake Thornton. God knows I do. So, let’s get on with this, shall we? Not quite the impromptu heat of a Paris nightclub but…we’ll make do with the Chop House.”
* The men walked around the corner and up to the restaurant in silence each deep in the mire of his own misery. They spotted her, seated at a table in the front window, before she saw them. Blake took a breath and leaned into his lover’s ear. “Don’t stand there and tell me that she is not beautiful. That she doesn’t do anything for you.”
* He put a hand on Rob’s back, as they walked towards her. She looked up and smiled. Blake felt Rob shiver under his palm. “The mother of our child, Rob. The child we both want,” he whispered, then stepped aside so Rob could give Lila a quick hug before he did the same.
