Today we have author K. Williams visiting. K. Williams is a college student living in Texas. She is married to Iraq veteran Specialist J. Williams of the United States Army. They are the proud fur-parents of a hyperactive Chihuahua named Ringo and all her book money is stowed away to their funds for when they start their family.
So, K, what inspired you to become a writer?
I always had an imagination much too active for my own good. I started writing to get that out of my system.
When did you attempt your first story? What length was it? What's become of it?
I wrote a story all through high school I think it ended up being around 50K. Tragically (and I mean TRAGICALLY) the file is lost. I don’t even remember if it was any good, but it was my first ever story and now it’s gone. Moving on, before I cry…
How many stories did you complete before you sold your first?
Aside from the *sob* Lost Work, I really only completed 2 or 3 before I started thinking about publishing.
What genre(s) do you write in? What drew you to write in it/them? What’s your favorite genre of all to write in?
Primarily, I write M/M but for this Naughty Fairy Tale I gave M/F/M a try. Mostly I write the characters and they tell me where they want to go. My favorite to write is M/M. I suppose I’m just really in touch with my inner gay man.
What are the best and worst pieces of writing advice you ever received?
That’s a tough question. I guess the best advice comes from my friend, G. He’s always there to kick me when I need it. His best advice came after I got published. He told me not to worry about any added pressure because I’m still the same person. I don’t think I’ve actually ever received any bad advice.
How do you celebrate/deal with acceptance/rejection letters?
I’ve only been rejected once and when that happened, I basically said, “Screw you guys, I’m going to Evernight.” Then when Hero got accepted with EP I did a marathon happy dance and then drank way too much vodka.
In regard to the book you’re promoting, which actor and actress do you envision playing the roles of your hero and heroine? If there’s a villain or other characters who are pertinent to the story, who would play those parts?
Hmmm. For the role of Darcy, the heroine, I imagined Emma Stone with black hair. The hero, Aric, I pictured Tyler Hoechlin. I have to say the villianess was inspired by Charlize Theron in Snow White and the Huntsman.
The book you’re promoting, is it a stand-alone story or part of a series? If it’s part of a series, please list the order the books need to be read in for maximum reading enjoyment.
It’s a stand-alone piece inspired by the movie I mentioned above.
*** Now for some fun info… ***
Are you a cat, dog or both kind of person?
I’d have to say both. I can’t pick one or the other since I own both.
Which do you prefer: rain or sun & warm weather or cold weather?
I love cold, rainy weather. It’s perfect for writing, because I can sit by the fire and sip whiskey and feel classy instead of dorky. Because…you know, it’s raining and cold.
Are you a morning person or night owl?
Total night owl. Left to my own devices, I go completely nocturnal.
*** About K’s book/series… ***
Blurb: Darcy King has had enough. With a sexy distraction, she manages to escape from the guards at North Tower, where she has been a virtual prisoner since her stepmother sent her there nine years ago. After wandering through the forest, she encounters seven outrageous drag queens and begins dancing at their night club under the stage name Snow White.
~ Aric Hunstman was hired to kidnap Darcy, but finds he is helpless against her beauty. He changes his ways and when Darcy’s friend, Nick Prince, discovers that Darcy just might be the rightful heir to her father’s fashion empire, he dedicates himself to helping her claim her birthright. After a poisoned martini nearly derails their plans, Nick and Aric can’t seem to get over their disagreement about which one of them deserves Darcy’s affections.
~ Darcy is tired of others directing her life and decides to finally start taking what she wants.
Interesting Tidbits: One thing that I really hope the readers catch on to is the inside joke behind the drag queens’ names. I don’t want to give it away, but anyone who figures it out needs to contact me so I can give them virtual high fives.
