So, Kacey, what inspired you to become a writer?
After many years as an online reviewer, my husband encouraged me to try my hand at writing. After a lot of coaxing and an interesting dream from my first hero, I took the plunge and haven’t looked back since!
When did you attempt your first story? What length was it? What's become of it?
My first story was actually about six years ago. I wrote Illusions in about eight months, and it’s since been re-released with new name/publisher/extensive re-writes.
How many stories did you complete before you sold your first?
Illusions was the first story I wrote and sold.
What genre(s) do you write in? What drew you to write in it/them? What’s your favorite genre of all to write in?
Contemporary Erotic Romance, Romantic Suspense. I’ve always loved these genres. Some of my personal fave authors write in these genres and I will always read this type of story before looking at any others.
What are the best and worst pieces of writing advice you ever received?
Best piece of advice… “No better way to promo than with the next release. Just keep writing.” There is no bad piece of advice I’ve received.
How do you celebrate/deal with acceptance/rejection letters?
Whether accepted/rejected, I write my CPs, author friends closest to me and go over the feedback (if any) and go from there. I personally feel that there’s no point in getting upset or irate over a rejection when I could just be focusing on my next step or revising or the next story.
In regard to the book you’re promoting, which actor and actress do you envision playing the roles of your hero and heroine? If there’s a villain or other characters who are pertinent to the story, who would play those parts?
Oooh, great question. I see Sandra Bullock playing Alicia, and Alex O’Laughlin playing Cole. Wouldn’t those two in a movie together just be hot! LOL My villain, Roy, oh would have to be played by Mickey Rourke. Roy is just that kind of character that needs someone dark and evil, and Mickey always gives me that vibe.
The book you’re promoting, is it a stand-alone story or part of a series? If it’s part of a series, please list the order the books need to be read in for maximum reading enjoyment.
Awakenings is book 2 in my “In the Arms of the Law” series. In book one, Alicia endures a hellish experience and this is the aftermath of how she’s dealt/dealing with it … and not in good ways! Readers should read book 1: Illusions before Awakenings but it’s not a must.
* Series reading order:
* Illusions
* Awakenings
* Tied Down – releases Today, Sept 14!!
* Wild Thunder – releases Oct 2nd
*** Now for some fun info… ***
What’s your favorite color?
Red
What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
Mint chocolate chip
Are you a cat, dog or both kind of person?
Both – we have a Cockapoo pup named Peaches and a Cat named Lily. Plus a bird named Dino! LOL
Would you/have you own(ed) a snake or some other exotic pet?
OMG NO…no snakes whatsoever. So afraid of them, even a baby snake, forget it. I’d run like Forrest Gump. No, no way. My one recurring nightmare, as a kid and now, is being smothered by a snake. *shivers* Nothing that slithers for sure. Exotic pets aren’t for me.
Which do you prefer: rain or sun & warm weather or cold weather?
I like fall. Cool breezes without the intense heat and humidity or the cold, icy winds of winter. I’m a Canadian girl and I hate winter. I was born in a car, in a ditch in the middle of a snowstorm…’nuff said!
Are you a morning person or night owl?
Night owl.
What’s your favorite day of the week?
Wednesdays. Mid-week, knowing the roughest part of the week is over and looking forward to the weekend!
What’s your favorite number?
17
If you could live anywhere in the universe, where would it be and why?
Ireland. My grandfather’s family was born there, and I’ve always wanted to go. I’m not much of a traveller, can’t bear to think of ever leaving where I am now, but Ireland would be tempting to live forever.
If you were stranded on a desert island and were only allowed to have five modern conveniences with you, what would they be?
Lighter, water, hairbrush, umbrella and sunscreen. I’m a red head, I need the umbrella and sunscreen to protect me from looking like a lobster.
*** About Kacey’s book/series… ***
Awakenings was a difficult book to write. Alicia was hard to get a handle on. I wanted her to go one way but she was stubborn and fought me every step of the way. She and I have a love/like relationship. She really put me through the wringer.
With her old flame back in her life, and on the trail of a killer, Detective Alicia Knowles is forced to face the past as she tries to make decisions about her future…
* Detective Alicia Knowles once believed there was good in everyone. Not anymore. After a harrowing experience, her life had changed and she was a very different woman. Now more dangerous, she moves through the darkness of her once sunny world, unsure what to do with her pent up feelings of fear and anger.
* Even her new boss, Cole Douglass, makes her feel out of control. One night, years ago, he made her feel things she'd never felt with any other man. This time it can only be business between them.
* With her latest case, however, temperatures flare.
* Their passion is rekindled as the search is on for a missing child and a murderer on the run. Can Alicia protect her heart from the most dangerous power of all…love?
* She turned around. Their chests brushed, and she gave him a half-smile. “I know Hannah might not blame me, but I do. A few more moments, it’s all we would have needed. I’d change it if I could.” When Cole opened his mouth, she placed her fingers on his lips to silence him. “I can’t, but I vow to do whatever it takes to catch this son-of-a-bitch.”
* Alicia tried to convey the sincerity of her promise as she stared into his eyes. For Hannah, and this man, she’d do whatever she could to bring peace to their family once more.
* “I know you would. But you can’t carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. We’ll get him.” He raised his hand to her cheek and pushed back a strand of hair that had fallen over her face. Her breath quickened at the light touch. Her body stilled.
* The air crackled with electricity. She was sure he could feel it, too; the tension rolled off his body like waves in the ocean. To walk away would be the best thing to do, but for the life of her, Alicia couldn’t get her feet to move.
* “You know what, Ali?” His voice was soft and powerfully seductive. “You know what I remember most about our night together?”
* Alicia’s hand clasped his wrist, below where his fingers rested lightly on her cheek. She wanted to fall into his arms, burn beneath his touch again. They’d never talked about it and she was curious to know what he remembered.
* She remembered it all.
* Every touch and sigh. Every kiss and pleasure she basked in.
* Through many a cold and lonely night, she cherished the memories of Cole’s hard body pressed against hers, pushing her against the mattress—and the wall and the bathroom counter—but she marveled at how he’d made her feel like more of a woman in one night than she’d felt in all her adult years.
* Her voice hoarse and scratchy, she whispered, “What do you remember?”
* “Our fire.”
* When his mouth claimed hers, her body ignited with long-repressed emotions. Hunger, mind-blowing hunger, rattled through her. It was so hard to breathe.
