What book are you going to tell us about today? Is it part of a series? If so, what's the order the books should be read in?
* Finding Mercy. Finding Mercy is the first book in Decadent Publishing’s new Prepper Romance line. Part of a mini-series (Evans Point) within the Prepper line, Finding Mercy is the first book, followed by The Princess and the Prepper by Barbara Elsborg and Falling for Water by Arlene Webb.
How'd you/your muse come up with this story?
* It takes something as little as a suggestion, as was the case with Finding Mercy. I sat and thought about it for days, and drew on my home town of Alliance Nebraska as inspiration
Describe the hero in five words.
* Courageous. Damaged. Survivor. Passionate. Heroic.
Describe the heroine in five words.
* Intelligent. Stubborn. Driven. Resourceful. Passionate.
Who's your favorite character in the book & why?
* Sgt Justin Redway. It’s his past, the depth of the pain he needs to overcome to move forward with his life, that makes him who he is. He is a hero in denial, a man damaged by forces out of his control, who finds the courage to move forward and make a future.
What's your favorite line in the story?
* Actually it’s two. They pretty much define him. ~ Today, he was weak. Tomorrow he’d be stronger.
A look into the story
* Mercy Evans has come to Evans Point hoping to collect herself and find a way to resurrect her career as an anchorwoman for Cheyenne’s news station. Sergeant Justin Redway has come to Evans Point to try to forget his past and survive all he’s done.
* One is a battle-damaged veteran, the other a desperate woman who will go to any extreme to get his story. When their worlds collide, sparks fly and old wounds open. As the chasm between the fated lovers widens, it might be too big to cross.
* One town, two lovers, and a second chance at finding mercy.
* “This one’s alive.” Someone hoisted the weight of a large chunk of wreckage from his torso. Two sets of hands slid under him. “On the count of three. One. Two. Three.”
* They moved in unison, rolling him onto a stretcher.
* “No,” he begged. He wasn’t alive. This couldn’t be real. Another protest gurgled from his throat and he began to convulse, unable to hold his limbs still.
* “Hold him down so I can sedate him.” Hands grasped his wounded limbs. Bone cracked and shifted under their grip. He tried to arch up, but remained restrained by several soldiers. He yelled and thrashed. They grabbed both sides of his face, holding him still.
* Justin screamed. The sound was so inhuman; if he hadn’t been the one who’d made it, he wouldn’t have believed it came from a man. A stick with a needle. Burning.
* As the seizure eased, they released their hold. He turned his head toward the medic who’d drugged him. The man blurred in and out. Justin’s vision came back into focus as a burned picture of a woman and baby caught the breeze and tumbled across the baked earth next to where the medic kneeled. Justin swallowed and his eyes blurred with tears. Sanders hadn’t even gotten to hold his daughter.
* “You’re going to be okay.”
* Let me die. Please. Let me die. Pain rode his nerves like an electrical wire, sending jolts of agony to the tips of his fingers and toes. He opened his mouth, but nothing came from his throat. Boom, boom, boom. His heartbeat slowed as the sedative did its job.
* “Get him on the chopper.”
* Regardless the drug, every step the medics took hurt as they hauled him toward reprieve. Broken bones, burns, but nothing compared to what played through his head. He’d killed them all and survived to see his handiwork. Nothing could be worse than that.

Great blog post, Dawn. I love the lines you picked as favorite, simple but packed with meaning. I hope a zillion readers grab Finding Mercy, it's such an unforgetable, beautifully written story.
Love this story. DL did an amazing job of kicking off the Prepper Romance line.
Feeling better. Been home from work for a couple of days, and down on Sat and Sunday. All uphill from here. Thanks. I really enjoyed spinning this story off a real town, complete with a bomb shelter. Few people know about these small towns that were once bases, or military posts and the secrets they hold. They've actually found an entire Jeep, packed in a crate in grease, buried in the ground out at the old airfield, which is used as the town airport now. It made me wonder how many towns out there have secrets like it.
Oh, I can't wait to read this series starting with Finding Mercy! All the best with your new release! :-)
It's great the way fact can be twisted to fiction - the fact that this town actually exists is BRILLIANT!! Maybe they'll pick up some ideas from the Prepper stories!
