Gravitation by Beth D. Carter

Can Bree and Niah's love overcome their species being at war with one another?

Bree has spent her whole life hiding from the aliens who destroyed what was once Earth. When she stumbles across a wounded alien, common sense tells her to kill him before he can kill her, but her compassionate side refuses to obey. Instead, she helps him.

The two forge a temporary truce when they're forced to band together for protection. But as the days slip by, the alien Niah won't leave her, and as friendship gives way to something more, she can't help but wonder when, or if, them being on opposite sides will break the fragile bonds of love forming between them.

Author Bio:

IMOGENE NIX
Imogene is a mother of two, compulsive reader, and bookstore owner. She lives in regional Queensland, Australia with her husband, two daughters, dog, cats, guinea pigs, and chooks. She has a particular fondness for vampires, star ship captains, and things that go bump in the night (especially vampire types).

Imogene has tried many varied roles in her working life including kindergarten assistant, teacher, principal, and kindergarten and child care director, but rates owning a bookstore and writing her own novels as the absolute highlight.

In her mother and wife alter ego, she has traveled widely and lived in some very unique places including Far Western Queensland, Cape York, and even Tasmania. She loves to travel and rates China and Hong Kong among her favorite destinations.

ASHLYNN MONROE
Ashlynn Monroe is a busy working mom. She loves her kids and family. Her greatest joy is creating stories to entertain others, and she hopes they bring a little more romance into the world. She’s been writing since her teens, for her own enjoyment, but decided in her thirties to share her imagination with readers. Ashlynn enjoys biking, camping, reading, video games, and filling her home and life with love. If she’s not working or chasing her children, you can find her daydreaming up her next tale of romance.

JAYE SHIELDS
Jaye Shields is a flight attendant by day and romance author by night. Her addictions include reading, travel, and other activities not even a romance writer will confess to. She’s in a committed love affair with her readers, so don’t be shy!

BETH D. CARTER
Beth likes writing about the very ordinary girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances, so her heroines will probably never be lawyers, doctors, or corporate highrollers. She tries to write characters who aren’t cookie-cutter and pushes herself to write complicated situations that she has no idea how to resolve, forcing herself to think outside the box. She loves writing characters who are real, complex, and full of flaws, heroes and heroines who find redemption through love.

Beth has been pretty fortunate in life to experience some amazing things. She’s lived in France and traveled throughout Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. She’s a mom to an amazing little boy, and she’s surrounded by friends and family. She hates washing dishes but loves cooking, hates washing clothes but loves wearing them. Her favorite color is red, but she looks best in black (it’s slimming). She hates people who don’t pick up their dog’s crap in public places, people who don’t use turn signals, and people who are rude and condescending. She especially hates discrimination in all and every form. And although she loves holding a book in her hand, she absolutely adores her ereader, whom she’s named Ruby.

A Look At Beth D. Carter & 'Sex, Love & Aliens' @BethDCarter @beachwalkpress #anthology #scifi

Today we have author Beth D. Carter visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* I like writing about the very ordinary girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances, so my heroines will probably never be lawyers, doctors or corporate highrollers. I try to write characters who aren't cookie cutters and push myself to write complicated situations that I have no idea how to resolve, forcing me to think outside the box. I love writing characters who are real, complex and full of flaws, heroes and heroines who find redemption through love.
*I love to hear from readers so I’ve made it really easy to find me on the web. You'll find my links at the bottom of this post.

What book are you going to tell us about today? Is it part of a series? If so, what's the order the books should be read in?
* I’m going to talk about the anthology “Sex, Love & Aliens”, published through Beachwalk Press. I’m really excited about this collection, mainly because I’m sharing the spotlight with three amazing authors. If you’ve not read any books by Ashlynn Monroe, Imogene Nix, or Jaye Shields, you’ve been missing out. This book would be a great opportunity to sample just how great these ladies are at what they do.
* My story in this anthology is called Gravitation, because as much as my heroine wants to escape her alien buddy, they keep being pulled together. Like gravity. I wrote this story in a week because Bree was so real to me, so alive, that her words flowed easily. She’s one of my favorite characters I’ve created.
* Now, this story has a FREE prequel, telling Niah’s story before he meets Bree. You can find it at Smashwords: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/467913

How'd you/your muse come up with this story?
* When I heard about the submissions call, my mind went to a type of The Walking Dead scenario, only with aliens instead. Bree is on the run, trying to stay hidden from the invaders that have taken over Earth.

Describe the hero in five words.
* Niah: a leader, hero, and lover.

Describe the heroine in five words.
* Bree: hopeful, but lonely and determined

Who's your favorite character in the book & why?
* Easily, it’s Bree. I suppose because a lot of me is in her. I think the reason she was so easy to write was because I simply put myself in her shoes about what I would do in her situation.

What's your favorite line in the story?
* I have to pick only one!!??? LOL!
* Okay, this line perhaps sums this story up nicely. Neither of them speaks each other’s language, so they communicate with hand signals and by Niah learning only two words, which he says here.
* “Bree,” he called out, and she turned to glance at him. “Stay. Bree stay.”

* Can Bree and Niah’s love overcome their species being at war with one another?

* Bree sat up quickly, looking around. Niah was gone. His leg splints were in a nice pile, the only testament that he’d been there. She ignored the stab of pain that pierced through her and told herself it was better this way. He had gone back to his people, to where he came from. It was time she went to where she belonged.
* As she gathered her things and slipped her backpack over her shoulders, she thought about when she asked him to save one life as a thank you. Well, seems like he did just that.
* He’d spared hers.

A Look At Tracey Rogers & 'Employee of the Month' @TraceRbookworm @beachwalkpress #romance

Today we have author Tracey Rogers visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* Usually found with a pen in my hand, or my head in a book, I’m a contemporary romance author who also thinks fangs and wings are a very attractive accessory.
* A devourer of books from an early age, imagination was my best discovery. I spent much of my childhood stepping into wardrobes, searching for that magical snowy world where conversing with animals would be expected. When I wasn’t searching for those worlds, I wrote about them instead. My first step into the world of romance was when I stole sneak peeks into my nana’s books. I’m still in that world and I refuse to leave.
* I live in Staffordshire, UK, with my husband and three wonderful children. An avid reader and writer of romance, I strongly believe that words make the world go around. I like nothing more than to be swept away by the words on a page. I hope I can sweep you away too.

What are you going to tell us about today?
* My category length, contemporary romance: Employee of the Month.

A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
Some rules are made to be broken
* Rule number 1: No touching
* Rule number 2: No kissing
* Rule number 3: Never, ever, fall in love
* Holly Wilder finds some of those rules pretty difficult to follow during her boss’s visits to present the Employee of the Month award. A relationship between them is prohibited, and even if it wasn’t, Holly has no intention of ever falling in love again. But that doesn’t stop her from craving Max’s touch.
* Hotel owner Max Lazzari never expected to break his own rules, especially when they are so important to him. But sexy employee Holly is too hard to resist. Their no-strings, secret arrangement fits in perfectly with his no-commitment plan. A plan to ensure that no woman will ever again have the opportunity to hurt him.
* Sizzling nights together mean Holly and Max start looking forward to the monthly visits more and more. Until they are both brought down to earth with a bump—a pregnancy one!
* Will rule breaking lead to broken hearts?
Content Warning: contains sensual sex and some strong language
~ Excerpt ~
* Holly carried a tray holding freshly ground coffee. The plush carpeted corridor absorbed the tension in her legs as she headed to Max Lazzari’s office. Dragging air deep into her lungs, she inhaled the aroma of coffee, allowing it to invigorate her senses.
* Must be professional, she reminded her lust-filled brain, though her body’s reactions were refusing to comply.
* Balancing the tray on one of her not quite controlled arms, Holly sucked in a breath before knocking on the door.
* “Come in.” His deep tone made her tray wobble. She watched with wide eyes as the coffee almost sloshed over the rim of the cup, then watched how the ripples of liquid aftershock mirrored the way her insides felt.
* Complete turmoil.
* She opened the door and looked at the man with his dark head dipped to the computer screen. “Your coffee, Mr. Lazzari.” The door fell closed behind her. Her brow furrowed when she spotted the full coffee pot plugged into the machine behind him.
* His keen green eyes, hooded beneath long lashes, were lifted up at her.
* She carried the tray over to set it on the desk. “I believe you wanted to speak to me about an upcoming function. Which function would that be?”
* He rose, startling her. Her shaky fingers still gripped the tray, but now her hold whitened her knuckles. The cup rattled.
* “This one,” his husky voice said. With a grin he took her chin in his hand and captured her mouth with his. He dropped his hand, bracing both of them on the desk to kiss her more thoroughly, more deeply.
* Holly allowed arousal to cascade through her, absorbing the softness and skill of his lips as he teased and swept, offering her the taste she’d been craving. She lifted her hand to thread her fingers through the dark hair at his nape.
* God, she’d been waiting for this.
* Arching closer, her thighs dug hard into the desk edge. She tilted her head, inviting him deeper. If her darned pencil skirt wasn’t so tight she’d have crawled over the desk by now. She heard a soft groan. Hers.
* “Missed me?” Max chuckled as he gave her his now familiar lopsided grin. The one she held in her memory to help her through the weeks.
* “I did,” she confirmed, frowning as she mourned the loss of his lips. “There was an extra day in this month.”
* She rested her palms over his jaw, covering the dimples in his tanned cheeks. She liked the feel of his smooth, clean shaven skin, the warmth against her needy hands.
* “But you broke the rules, Mr. Lazzari. Absolutely no touching at work, remember?”
