What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* I grew up in Southeast Missouri, in what is known as the Bootheel, and dreamed of one day escaping small town living to explore the world. Eventually, I made my way back and forth across the US; I’ve lived in Paris, France, and seen the wonders of Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Scandinavia. But Missouri will always be home. I use settings I know to base my stories around, writing about the ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances. I firmly believe in happy-ever-afters and enjoy spreading a little love in the world. I’m easy to find on the web and love to hear from readers.

Today Beth D. Carter will be talking about a deeply personal and emotional issue that affects many women, myself included, and how her journey with it lead to the creation of Between You and I.
* When I was a teenager, I was diagnosed with endometriosis. My gynecologist (at the time) put me on birth control pills to help treat the symptoms, but back in the nineties one couldn’t simply look up what endometriosis was. Or what it even meant. All I knew was that it gave me painful menstrual cycles.
* Fast track ten years later and I didn’t like how the birth control pills were affecting me. So I made the decision to stop taking them, not knowing what was coming my way. Without the birth control keeping the disease at bay, endometriosis took over my life.
* Endometriosis is not PMS, it is not just painful periods. It is a life altering rollercoaster of mood swings, back aches, and fatigue. I suffered with painful sex, bouts of nausea, and weight gain. It is not understanding why you have, maybe, five good days out of the month where you feel normal. And it is finding out that endometriosis means that you possibly will never have children from the scar tissue that it creates in your abdomen.
* I consider myself very lucky to have my little boy, who turns ten this year. I almost didn’t have a chance to be his mother.
* I lost my right ovary and right fallopian tube at age thirty-seven. I had a hysterectomy at age forty-two. Even then, even knowing I didn’t want more children, the thought of losing my uterus made me depressed. Less than a real woman. As I lay recovering in my hospital room after the surgery, Madeline’s story came to life.
* I’m not sure what other writers do, but I often use my writing as a way of dealing with my issues. It’s very cathartic. I’m very proud to have written about a woman who has gone through the same emotional turmoil I went through. I hope Madeline’s story helps others who might be struggling with the same type of uncertainties. A look into...

Is expressing love difficult for you? Why?
* I firmly believe a good Alpha is ruled by the love for his people. And when it comes to my mate, Aleirah, I’ve known she was to mine from an early age. But that comes with the knowledge that I’ll do anything to protect those that I love.

What’s your take on Felix Crispus?
* Felix is the lanista of the gladiator house I was taken to. He is a pompous little man who need chains to protect himself. Fighting one on one I would decimate him. But his money hires the raiders and the arrogant fools of Kappuah have elevated him into the upper echelon of society. I must find a way to use his influence to keep my people safe.

Where do you see yourself in the future? What do you hope to accomplish?
* The raiders of Sennex Prime was able to attack and capture us at our most vulnerable time. My people value tradition, but now I’m going to have to rethink tradition versus safety. We can never be careless again.

A Look At Beth D. Carter & 'True North' @BethDCarter @Totally_Bound #motorcycleclub #menage

Today is my birthday and in celebration I'm happy to open my blog to my good friend and fellow author, Beth D. Carter! She has an awesome four book MC series with two companion books to follow and she's here to share some info on one.

First, Beth, what would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* A long time ago, my husband-at-the-time got into riding Harleys. I loved the exhilaration of being on the back of the bike. I had a jacket with red flames and our bike was painted cherry red. I even took a three day course to get my motorcycle license, and I passed…even though I laid the bike down twice.
* So when I write about what it feels like to be on a bike…I’m doing that from memory.
* I love to hear from readers so I’ve made it really easy to find me on the web. You can find my links later on in the post.

What are you going to tell us about today?
* First I'd like to share my thoughts on how "A Cover Says it All" and then I'm going to talk about True North.
* There is perhaps no other creative outlet that bares the writers soul quite like writing. Whether it’s writing poetry, songs or stories, the modern day bard has to tap into deep recesses of the soul. Writing stories can be a rollercoaster journey, full of emotional ups and downs as the writer tries to convey believable characters and situations. A writer pours their very essence into their creation, much like Dr. Frankenstein into his monster. Add a little electricity and pretty soon the author is shouting “It’s Alive!”.
* The first thing that draws our eye is beauty. And beauty is everywhere; the color and texture to a painting, the sun setting in the horizon, a favorite actor or actress, and in simple things like the smile of a child or the sparkle of a diamond ring. Is it no wonder, then, that the cover of a book must be absolutely perfect to set apart from the competition and draw the buyer’s eye?
* I will admit I am one of those people who will judge a book by its cover, at least initially. I see a beautiful cover and it makes me want to read what it’s about. I see a cover that’s not visually appeasing and I tend to pass it by. But with the rise in ebook publishing, it’s forcing the graphic artists who design these covers to be better and bolder. A cover artist is tasked with the job of interpreting the story through art, incorporating all aspects of what the bosses want verses what the author wants while producing something that will draw the reader/buyer in. It’s not an easy job.
* Now-a-days, with the cost of books (even ebooks), a story has to take full advantage of every strategy to grab the readers’ attention. The cover has to incorporate a lot detail, so it’s very important that the cover artist bears in mind not only the story, but what brings the story alive. Most publishers won’t consider that far, only content with producing a sexy look to market the book. But writers put their souls into each story, and the passion and romance pouring from the cover is very important.
* For my new novel “True North”, the heroine is Native American. I sent the cover artist the specifics of who she was, her personality, and what she was supposed to look like. I even sent a reference picture. I got an email saying that becasue my publisher was based in England, they didn’t have Native American stock photos. All she could promise was to do her best so I put my faith into the artist’s hands. She didn’t fail to deliver. Imagine my surprise when I received the proof of my cover and saw the lovely lady on the front.

* It is said a picture is worth a thousand words and I firmly believe that having a great cover is one of the best assets an author has. Even in the digital evolution of e-books, a cover is one of the most important aspects of giving personality to the story. It guides the reader into seeing the hero and heroine, bringing them to life and adding depth to the drama unfolding. All of which is needed for that brief time where the reader escapes into fantasy.

So, share a bit about True North and the series.
* True North is the second book in the Red Wolves Motorcycle Club Series. While the first book was more the precursor to this world, this book jumps right into the club. North Tabion is the president, and he’s trying to move the club out of the illegal activies into legit business. His best friend is the town sherrif, Givon Halloran. They grew up together with abusive fathers that made as close as brothers. When Allis comes into the mix, their friendship only grows deeper as they have to protect her from numerous threats.
* The series of the books, in order, are: Along Came Merrie, True North, When Dove Cries, and Lily Roar.
* There are also two companion books to the Red Wolves series: Mad Delights and Madness Ends, which feature the Men of Hell MC.

How'd you/your muse come up with this story?
* I love the tv shows Sons of Anarchy and Longmire, so my brain started to crossbreed the two. I didn’t want to do the obvious, though. One of the hardest things to deal with is the fact that the men are outlaw bikers. On one hand you have to stay true to the ideas set forth for one percenters but on the other hand, it’s a story where the heroes need to be redeemable. On SOA, they’re gun runners, drug runners, and have no hesitation killing someone. I decided to focus on a smaller club setting, more of a family. The first book is pretty tame, but the following books are focused on human trafficking, so things escalate. In True North, there is violence. You’ve been warned.

Who's your favorite character in the book & why?
* Hands down, North is my favorite character, and I think he’s my favorite through the whole series. He’s got a sarcastic sense of humor that I really love. His interactions with Givon are hilarious.

What's your favorite line in the story?
* Instead of a line, there is a scene where North talks Givon into getting his first tattoo. Givon is slightly...hesitant...to go under the needle. This scene kinda sums up their relationship perfectly!
** Once the stencil was in place and Branch had new gloves on, Branch bent over Givon’s side and touched the needle to skin.
** “Holy fuck!” Givon yelled, although he didn’t move a muscle. “This fucking hurts!”
** “Shut up, you pussy,” North said.
** “What the hell did I sign up for? Shit! Are you almost done?”
** North seemed to have a hard time holding in his laughter. “He just started. Don’t move.”
** “I’m not moving! Christ, the last thing I want him to do is make a mistake then I have to get a bigger tattoo to cover it up. Fuck. This is the last time I let you talk me into doing something like this.”
** “Once you get one you’ll want another,” North warned.

A look into the story

~ Blurb ~ * North Tabion and Givon Halloran have been friends for all their lives. Each has survived an abusive father, only to end up on opposite sides of the law as adults. Givon is the town Sheriff while North is the leader of the outlaw motorcycle club, the Red Wolves. But they’ve managed to maintain a friendship that means everything to them.
* Allison Evening is on the run, hiding out from an ex bent on vengeance and tending bar when she’s kidnapped to be sold into human trafficking. In a desperate attempt to free herself, she runs, only to be shot down and left for dead.
* North and Givon are in the right place at the right time. They save Allis and as they nurse her back to health, the three find a bright, burning love. But when her past catches up with her, the only way to save herself and her newfound love is if she, North, and Givon can follow love’s true path. ~ Excerpt ~ * It took North a moment to figure out what had woken him up. His pocket vibrated with a text message causing him to sit up abruptly and pull his phone out. Two messages had come through from Draven. The first one asked if he was still at the hospital and the second was reminding him of church today.
* Absently he wiped the drool from his chin and blinked as he looked at Allis. She lay there smiling at him then reached up to smooth down his hair. He’d slept with his head on the edge of the hospital bed so Lord only knew what he looked like. His lower back was killing him from hunching over all night.
* Givon was still sleeping and North winced at seeing his friend’s head tucked onto his chest. Giv was going to have one helluva of a neck kink. He rose and stretched, his back popping. Then he bent over and placed a tender kiss on Allis’s forehead. Her eyes widened and he had the insane urge to claim her lips next and kiss her until they were both breathless and squirming. He wondered if his thoughts reflected in his eyes because damned if it didn’t look like an answering passion flared to life in her dark gaze.
* Instead of caving in to his base desire, he swiped a finger down her cheek, memorizing the softness of her skin, before reluctantly backing away from her and leaving.

Ares, what would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* I was a cop. Damn good one, too. Had a great family. Great life. Until the Overlords showed up. One day, everything I had was gone. I almost lost my life to them but when I opened my eyes in the hospital, and realized I was still alive, I made it my vow to destroy the assholes who stole everything from me. So I tracked them and finally found them in a place called Paradise. Now that I’m this close I will have my reckoning.

Are you happy with the way people perceive you?
* Honestly, I don’t give a shit how I’m perceived. My mother and sister were raped and murdered. That changes a man on a fundamental level and their ghosts demand justice. If I have to bash in a few heads then so be it. You can either applaud me for making a difference or you can condemn me, but at least people will be safer once the cancerous Overlords are destroyed.

Is expressing love difficult for you? Why?
* Love. My brother and sister were married to some wonderful people. But love made them weak and now they’re just a memory. I can’t let that happen to me. There’s nothing left but my drive for vengeance and I can’t be distracted by love. Faith is…a complication I wasn’t expecting.

Does your author ever try to take over the story? And how do you deal with it?
* She tried. She thought it might be a good idea to make me a leader of this biker clan hunting the Overlords but I was like Hell no! I’m not a leader type. I may be the type of man who gets the job done, but I hunt alone.

If you were taken out of the story and placed into your author’s world, what would be the first thing you’d do?
* I don’t know…be confused? My world is tough. Unforgiving. It’s killed or be killed. Suburbia and white picket fences are forgotten concepts, so I wouldn’t know what to do without a blaster in my hand.

If you could pull your author into your world, what do you think would happen to them?
* I think she’s a pretty strong woman. I don’t think she’d have much trouble adapting, but she’d have to learn how to fight, and sometimes fight dirty.

What was the best sexual experience you’ve had?
* This may sound clichéd as hell, but sinking into Faith’s tight little body was euphoric. I lost control and I’ve never done that before.

What was the least interesting thing that has ever happened to you? (In bed or out.)
* My life before the Overlords was ordinary. I lived near my parents and siblings, so there was always dinner over some family member’s house. It wasn’t very interesting, but looking back now, it was some of the best times of my life.

What’s your take on Faith?
* Naïve. Idealistic. She grew up in a convent, so she has no idea the sadistic things men can do to innocents like her. She infuriates me with her religious nonsense. Still…she’s far stronger than I ever gave her credit for, and for that, I respect her.

If you were to spend a day with a reader, what would you two do together?
* Go to the gun range. Seriously, World War Three is coming and y’all need to learn to survive. I’ll teach any reader how to aim, fire, and clean a blaster.

Where do you see yourself in the future? What do you hope to accomplish?
* I see myself in a world free of the Overlords. If it’s the last thing I do, I will punish those responsible for the deaths of my family. And…I see Faith by my side. Somehow, she’s wheedled herself under my skin. Other than that, not sure where we’ll end up. If I survive, that is.

If you could time travel and/or live anywhere in the world, where would you go and/or where would that be?
* It would be wherever Faith was. I can’t live in a world without her.

* She did as he asked, although she didn’t know why she was so compliant with his demands. He walked with her through the hallway to their room. She didn’t even notice the décor as she stared into his eyes, which were no longer cold and unfeeling. Instead, he looked at her with a sharp hunger. A call deep inside her body answered, rocking her soul. What was happening to her?
* They entered a bedroom and he kicked the door shut behind him. He sat down on the edge of the bed with her still wrapped around him. Ares curled his hand into her hair and pulled her head back so he could lick up her neck.
* “For the next five days, this is our room,” he said in a deep voice. “I don’t want you to leave here. You bathe, and you make yourself pretty for me, and when I come back after my business, you and I will finish this little dance. You understand me, Faith?”
* Dazed, she nodded.
* He claimed her mouth again, once again making all her thoughts disappear. All she could do was hold on to the rush as he plundered her mouth with his tongue. Tingles sparked through her. She was so close to something monumental, but before she could even begin to explore it, he pulled back. Gently he stood back up, holding her like she weighed nothing, and laid her down on the mattress. He smoothed out her hair until it fanned around her head.
* “You’re mine, Faith,” he said thickly. “I’m your protector now, which means my cock is the only cock you’ll know. Any other man touches you, and I’ll kill him. If someone tries to help you escape, I’ll string him up by his balls. I may be a bastard, but I won’t hurt you unless you try to leave, touch another man, or put yourself in danger. Then I’ll spank that gorgeous ass of yours until you can’t sit for a week. Do you understand?”
* Mutely, she nodded.

Today I'm excited to announce that I have Beth D. Carter visiting. Why am I excited? Because my awesome friend and fellow author will be telling us about her newest story, When Lightning Strikes! I had one of the first looks at the story after she finished writing it, and I loved it. This story made me want to travel through time, re-watch one of my favorite time travel movies, and in a way, inspired my next Raritan Manor Ranch series book that I'm currently working on. If you like romances, especially time travels, pick up When Lightning Strikes. This is a gem of a story that won't disappoint. :)

So, Beth D. Carter, tell us a bit about yourself. Also, what inspired you to become a writer?
* Hello! Thank you so much for having me on your site today! I like writing about the very ordinary girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances, so my heroines will probably never be lawyers, doctors or corporate highrollers. I try to write characters who aren't cookie cutters and push myself to write complicated situations that I have no idea how to resolve, forcing me to think outside the box. I love writing characters who are real, complex and full of flaws, heroes and heroines who find redemption through love. I love to hear from readers so I’ve made it really easy to find me on the web. You can find the social media links later on in the post.
* As for the inspiration... My mother’s Harlequin Presents novels, particularly those written by Carole Mortimer, shaped my writing career. They were so emotional and heartfelt that I was sucked into each story. I wanted to write stories like that.

When did you attempt your first story? What length was it? What's become of it?
* The first book I ever wrote was when I was about twelve. I wrote it longhand in a spiral note book, and each chapter was ten pages long. The heroine’s name was Amanda, and she was the daughter of a madam in the Old West, and the hero thought she was a prostitute working there. Deep stuff for a twelve year old, huh? LOL! I think I got frustrated with it and threw it away, much to my mortification now.

How many stories did you complete before you sold your first?
* Two. One story is over 600 pages and took me two years to write. Sadly, that story will probably never see the light of day unless I can afford an editor and self pub that epic masterpiece.

What are the best and worst pieces of writing advice you ever received?
* Good question! Best: READ READ READ. Learn how to write by reading.
* Worst: Changing a story plot because the publisher didn’t like it.

The book you’re promoting, is it a stand-alone story or part of a series? If it’s part of a series, please list the order the books need to be read in for maximum reading enjoyment.
* When Lightning Strikes is a stand alone story, although I do have more ideas for “coma” induced paranormal events.

What sparked the idea for the story?
* I love time travel and I thought how interesting it would be for someone in the past to come to the future (our time).

Do you have anything else you'd like to share about the story?
* When Lightning Strikes has been one of my favorite stories I’ve ever written (so far!). It’s a time travel where the heroine comes forward to our time from 1794. I did a lot of research for this story, as well as paying tribute to some of my own ancestors.
* The heroine’s name is Henrietta Lydia Knapp and Knapp is a family name with a long history. My sixth great-grandmother, Lydia Knapp, had a prestigious family tree, linked back to Katherine Cromwell, the Tudor line, and Charles VI (the Mad King of France), whose own lineage was deeply engraved on England and France’s bloody history. Lydia Knapp’s grandfather came to Massachusetts in the 1600’s, making him one of the first people to settle the untamed new world. Genealogy is truly amazing and humbling at the same time.
* It was so interesting researching certain facts from Colonial America. One of the most interesting was The Flowing Hair dollar mentioned in When Lightning Strikes. It was designed by Robert Scot and on January 24, 2013, a specimen striking from the 1794 production sold for $10,016,875, the highest price ever paid for a coin. Wouldn’t that be a true pleasure to find in the attic!

Would you/have you own(ed) a snake or some other exotic pet?
* Yes, if I really wanted a pet. But I have a kid and a dog that gets on my nerves, so I probably wouldn’t right now.

Which do you prefer: rain or sun & warm weather or cold weather?
* I prefer either rain or sun and warm. That would be a big HELL NO to cold.

If you could live anywhere in the universe, where would it be and why?
* The mom in me says anywhere my son is. The sci-fi geek in me says the Tardis.

If you were stranded on a desert island and were only allowed to have five modern conveniences with you, what would they be?
* 1. a lifetime supply of chapstick; 2. a satellite phone; 3. a generator for electricity; 4. my laptop; 5. my tablet

* He laughed. “This is nothing. You should go to The French Riviera where you can to go topless on some of the beaches.”
* “You’re lying,” she accused.
* Micah John shook his head and held up his right hand. “Scout’s honor.”
* “Oh, my,” she said and looked back at the clothes being modeled. “Robert Burton wrote in his book The Anatomy of Melancholy, ‘When they are at Rome, they do there as they see done, puritans with puritans, papists with papists’.”
* “Right,” he said. “We’ve shorted it to when in Rome, do as the Romans do.”
* “I suppose that is a more succinct way of saying it.”
* She looked around at all the women passing by. Shorts, miniskirts and tank tops, all exposing more skin that she’d probably ever seen. He almost felt sorry for her. “I’ve come out in public in just my dress, sans petticoats. I suppose I can acclimate to being a Twenty-first century woman.”
* “Atta girl.”

* I’ve been pretty fortunate in life to experience some amazing things. I’ve lived in France, traveled throughout Europe, Australia and New Zealand. I am a mom to an amazing little boy. I’m surrounded by friends and family. I hate washing dishes but I love cooking. I hate washing clothes but I love wearing them. Writing my bio is difficult because I never know what to say so I hope you like this one. My favorite color is red but I look best in black (it’s slimming). I hate people who don't pick up their dog's crap in public places, people who don’t use turn signals, and I really hate people who are rude and condescending. A look into the story

* “I’m Ruby Talcott, and that’s Merridie Morgan and Eden Cariker. We need passage to Africa,” Ruby said, ignoring the odd excitement gripping her insides. Now was not the time to get distracted by a pretty face. Oh, but that was easier said than done, especially once he turned those hypnotizing eyes back her way.
* “Why do you think I can help?”
* “The registry office has you listed on heading to Africa this morning. We just need a ride.”
* “I’m not a passenger ship.”
* “We won’t be passengers,” Ruby insisted. “We can earn our way.”
* The way his gaze traveled up and down her body had her blood heating up and leaving little doubt to what was going through his lascivious mind.
* “This isn’t a whorehouse either,” he stated.

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* long time ago, my husband-at-the-time got into riding Harleys. I loved the exhilaration of being on the back of the bike. I had a jacket with red flames and our bike was painted cherry red. I even took a three day course to get my motorcycle license, and I passed…even though I laid the bike down twice.
* So when I write about what it feels like to be on a bike…I’m doing that from memory.

What book are you going to tell us about today? Is it part of a series? If so, what's the order the books should be read in?
* Along Came Merrie is the first book in the Red Wolves Motorcycle Club Series. It’s what I would call the prequel to the Red Wolves trilogy. It sets up this world and lead into the over-lining arc of the human trafficking story.
* The series of the books, in order, are: Along Came Merrie, True North, When Dove Cries, and Lily Roar.
* I’m also working on two follow-up books: Violent Delights and Violent Ends.

How'd you/your muse come up with this story?
* I love the tv shows Sons of Anarchy and Longmire, so my brain started to crossbreed the two. I didn’t want to do the obvious, though. One of the hardest things to deal with is the fact that the men are outlaw bikers. On one hand you have to stay true to the ideas set forth for one percenters but on the other hand, it’s a story where the heroes needs to be redeemable. On SOA, they’re gun runners, drug runners, and have no hesitation killing someone. I decided to focus on a smaller club setting, more of a family. The first book is pretty tame, but the following books are focused on human trafficking, so things escalate.

* Braden McCormick: taciturn, scared, hesitant, loyal, caring.

Describe hero #2 in five words.
* Leo Cloud Dancer: brother, laid-back, deep feelings

Describe the heroine in five words.
* Merrie Walden: Strong, brave, clever, in love

Who's your favorite character in the book & why?
* I think my favorite is Leo, because he was interesting to write. I had to do a lot of research on the Shoshone nation, so he came as the full package. Back story, history, thoughts, feelings…he’s really the opposite of Braden, which makes them work well together.

What's your favorite line in the story?
* Okay, this is two lines, and really doesn’t have anything to do with this story, but sets up nicely for the next book: “I can’t imagine sharing a woman in a long-term relationship. A one-night stand, sure, but no woman is worth being in bed with another man’s junk for the long haul.”

A look into the story

~ Blurb ~ * Merrie Walden is in the wrong place at the wrong time. She’s attacked by a vicious outlaw biker bent on shutting her up permanently when she sees something she shouldn’t, but luck is with her and she manages to escape by jumping out of a moving car. She’s found by horse rancher Braden McClintock, who takes her to his adopted brother, Leo Cloud Dancer, for medical attention.
* As she heals in the home of the two men, Merrie begins to realize that she’s falling for both of them. Braden is taciturn while Leo is outgoing and both reach a deep seated need that she hadn’t even realized she had.
* But before she can figure out if they can share a happily ever after, she has to survive the biker who’s found out where she is. Because even if she doesn’t know what she witnessed, he sure the hell does.
* And he wants her silent. ~ Excerpt ~ * She could see he wanted to believe her. But there was a world of hurt in his eyes that she didn’t know how to banish. Hopefully, time would help whittle away his insecurities.
* He cupped her face. “You’re so young.”
* “Not so young I haven’t lived,” she replied. “Not so young that I don’t know what I want.”
* “Would you like to try to make this work between us?” he asked.
* Once again, she looked between both men and read the sincerity in their gazes. Happiness swelled inside her as well as uncertainty. She’d never considered a ménage relationship and had no idea how to navigate the waters.
* “Have you ever done this before?” she asked.
* “No,” Leo said. “But learning is half the fun.”
* Braden swung her up into his arms and she squealed with delight. She wrapped her arms around his neck. He marched up the stairs with Leo following. At the top, he hesitated and glanced at his brother.
* “Mine,” Leo said. “I’ve got a king-size bed.”
