Stephanie Burkhart & 'A Gentleman and a Rogue' @StephBurkhart @GoddessFish #SteampunkRomance

Today we have author Stephanie Burkhart visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* Stephanie Burkhart is a 911 dispatcher for LAPD. She was born and raised in Manchester, New Hampshire. After serving 11 years in the US Army she currently calls Castaic, California her home. Stephanie was married in Denmark in 1991 and has two young sons. She adores chocolate, is addicted to coffee and enjoys early morning walks. She's also an assistant den leader for her son's Cub Scout den and is a Boy Scout mom. She writes paranormal, contemporary, and steampunk romance and has two children's books published with 4RV Publishing.

A look into...
~ Blurb ~
* Lady Keira Russell is destined to bring compressed natural gas to Britain. Her inner courage and mental toughness rarely falter – except when Prince Edmund Windsor is involved.
* Edmund of Wales is from the future. His last jaunt through history muffed up the time line. Now, he's here to set it straight and win Keira's heart.
* For Keira, if it isn't one obstacle, it's another. Queen Victoria has sponsored a competition to find a cleaner fuel source than coal. Keira's father is trying to build a windmill and the Ridgecrofts are working with gasoline. Then there's Edmund, whose sensual kisses and heated stares distract her down to her bones.
* Keira has a choice: trust Edmund's notorious mischief-making or put her faith in Queen Victoria to make the right decision, but if Keira makes the wrong choice, the future of Great Britain will be changed forever.
~ Excerpt ~
* Richard pursed his lips.
* "All right, then. I have orders to take you, Alice, Grayson, and Jonas back immediately."
* "That ought to be fun -- especially Jonas. He's helping Keira's father build a windmill."
* "Petrol and electricity are the future."
* Edmund grimaced.
* "No, they aren't. Alice and I tried to tell you -- Keira's compressed natural gas powers our future."
* His voice filled with conviction.
* "Ever since we were children--"
* "History changed when Grayson came with Alice. He's here to fix it now."
* Keira held up her hands.
* "Now, boys, let's not raise our voices. I have a feeling you've had this conversation before and came to no resolution."
* "That's true," Edmund conceded.
* Richard nodded.
* Edmund glared at his brother.
* "I'm not leaving. Alice and I have every intention of setting history straight."
* Richard sighed.
* "Besides, the only way to get back to the future is for us to warm our coin necklaces in our hands. You can't do that for us."
* "Ever heard of an override switch?"
* "No." Edmund's eyes narrowed. He didn't like the sound of that.
* "Professor Byron gave me one."
* A sinking feeling descended into the pit of his stomach.
* "What other tricks do you have up your sleeve?"
* "That's telling."
* Exasperated, Edmund raked a hand through his hair.
* "Think this through, Richard. No, better yet -- listen to your instincts."
* His brother chuckled.
* "What's so funny?"
* "I had an interesting conversation about instincts today with Jocelyn."
* Keira tilted her head slightly, a curious expression crossing her face.
* "Do you know Jocelyn well?"
* "I'm staying with the Dunkirks."
* "I can't imagine Lord Ridgecroft meeting the suitable test with his goggles and cigars," said Edmund.
* "Actually, I find Jocelyn and her father very refreshing."
* "So, Richard, what are you going to do?" Edmund asked.

A look into...
~ Blurb ~
* Elise Goodwin operates a heritage museum in Brattleboro, Vermont. Needing to buy some items for her museum, she travels to Boston and acquires a delicious surprise that would excite any curator – a Faberge Egg.
* Enter Russian businessman Dimitri Romanov, the true owner of the jewel. He's following a lead hoping to reacquire his stolen egg when he bumps into Elise. He can't hide his attraction to the petite brunette with doe-like eyes.
* Dimitri's rival, Gustav Kelch, wants the rare Faberge jewel and will do anything to find it, including destroying Dimitri's life. Can Dimitri keep Elise and his Faberge heirloom safe or will his attraction place their lives in jeopardy?
~ Excerpt ~
* A loud crash and the shattering of glass thundered through the room. Elise wrapped her arms around Dimitri's waist and pressed herself to him. Her shoulders tensed.
* "What was that?" he asked, lowering his voice to a whisper.
* More glass shattered, and footsteps thudded below.
* "I think someone just broke into the museum." Elise bolted from his arms and lunged for her phone.
* "What are you doing?"
* "Dad always told me to call nine-one-one first, then call him."
* "What is nine-one-one? Your emergency response?"
* "Yes." Elise paused, then said into the phone, "This is five-thirty Main Street. Someone has broken into the Heritage Museum. They're still there."
* Dimitri fisted his hands. He couldn't let the intruders find Elise in the apartment. He had to go down there. He bolted for the door.
* "Dimitri, what are you doing?"
* He ignored her, flung open the door, and raced down the stairs. His footsteps rang in his ears as he dashed through the hallway, entering the museum through the back, then ran into the main display room. Two men dressed in black with ski masks over their faces looked up at him. Dark shadows from the outside street lamp filled the main room.
* "Stop!" Dimitri yelled in Russian, letting his eyes get used to the low light.
* They froze, caught off guard by Dimitri's voice.

A Look At Stephanie Burkhart & 'The Green Rose' @StephBurkhart @GoddessFish #fantasy #romance #magic

Today we have author Stephanie Burkhart visiting. Welcome!

What are you going to tell us about today?
* My fantasy romance, The Green Rose.

A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
* On the continent of Gaia, evil is brewing. Turncoat wizard, Balthyser, kidnaps the kings of Dahaka and Tapin. He wants the green rose, a source of powerful magic.
* Princess Sonia of Tapin is forced to hunt down the rose in exchange for her father's life. It's the ultimate betrayal of Gaia's peace, but she has no choice if she wants to save her father.
* Prince Ivánstan of Dahaka accompanies her on the journey. Both face challenges and obstacles that test their strength of character during the hunt for the rose. Dare Sonia put her trust and faith in a man she hardly knows to secure Gaia's peace or will the continent's harmony be shattered forever?
~ Excerpt ~
* Draco stood next to the bank of the brook on hind legs which were thick and stocky. The dragon was no taller than Ivánstan. His wings rested at his side. The green scales that covered his body glistened in the twilight. Upon seeing her, Draco's eyes widened and he moved his head, looking her over from head to toe. Sonia cradled the now sleeping Hiro in her arm against her breast. Heat radiated from the dragon's body.
* Ivánstan glanced at Draco and chuckled. "He says you're pretty." "Thank you." She'd never been called pretty by a dragon before. Draco raised his right wing, exposing his claws upward.
* "He wants you to put your hand in his. It's his way of greeting you." "I won't burn?"
* "Nay. His scales usually negate the heat's effect for us."
* Sonia steeled her courage. Seeing Draco so close, she understood why Ivánstan's bonding had been so challenging. She had to trust him when he said Draco wouldn't burn her.
* There was that dirty word again -- trust. But how dirty was it? Why did Ivánstan consistently demand it of her? And why did she give it piece by piece?
* Slowly, she offered her hand to the dragon. His scales possessed the consistency of slate, but she detected an inner hardness, reminding her of Taveran steel. His claws wrapped around her hand.

Welcome special guest: author Stephanie Burkhart ~ @StephBurkhart @GoddessFish #paranormal #historical

Today we have author Stephanie Burkhart visiting.
* Stephanie Burkhart was born and raised in Manchester, New Hampshire. At 18, she joined the U.S. Army. She spent 7 years stationed in Germany. In 1995, she earned a B.S. in Political Science, magna cum laude, from California Baptist University in Riverside, CA and was named the Outstanding Evening College Student. Currently, she works for LAPD as a 911 dispatcher. She's been writing since she was six. Her first published novel is "The Hungarian" with Desert Breeze Publishing.

So, Stephanie Burkhart, what/who inspired you to become a writer?
* Would you believe that the 1970's show, "The Electric Company," did? I used to watch the show and then go to the kitchen table to write homemade comic books of the Spiderman skit I just watched.

When did you attempt your first story? What length was it? What's become of it?
* It was called "Destination: Berlin," and I must have struggled about 10 years to get it right. Eventually I used a vanity press to publish it under a pen name. I was very pleased with the final product, but I pulled it down a couple of years ago because I didn't want to deal with the vanity press anymore. The novel is a sweet military young adult story about 40,000 words. Once I find time, I'll either self-publish or approach a small press with the story.

How many stories did you complete before you sold your first?
* Three, including "Destination: Berlin." The first one I sold was "The Hungarian."

What are the best and worst pieces of writing advice you ever received?
* The worst? Use a vanity press. I suppose there are pros, but they all involve money I don't have.
* The best? Keep reading. Reading really does help to hone your craft as a writer in a variety of ways. Reading introduces new styles, new words, and new ideas.

The book you’re promoting, is it a stand-alone story or part of a series?
* Sunrise Over Brasov is Book 3 in the Moldavian Moon series. The series is about a witching family who struggles to break the werewolf haunting of their family. Book 1 is "The Wolf's Torment," and Book 2 is "Twilight Over Moldavia."

What sparked the idea for the story/series?
* I wanted to write a fairytale in reverse where the princess' kiss has to save the prince. So I wrote "Twilight Over Moldavia" first. Then I had to write about how Stefan got cursed so I wrote Book 1, "The Wolf's Torment," next. After that, I knew I had to write about Michael's struggles so I wrote "Sunrise Over Brasov."

*** Now for some fun info… ***
Would you/have you own(ed) a snake or some other exotic pet?
* When I was 6 or 7, my parents bought chickens. They were cute as chicks, but nasty as full grown chickens. I've had a cat or dog ever since.

Which do you prefer: rain or sun & warm weather or cold weather?
* I suppose it depends on my mood, but I'm generally an optimist so I prefer sun and warm weather to compliment my nature.

If you could live anywhere in the universe, where would it be and why?
* Toughie, for sure! Westros, I think. I'm really into Game of Thrones.

If you were stranded on a desert island and were only allowed to have five modern conveniences with you, what would they be?
* A generator so I would always have electricity, the Internet, a Kindle, a golf cart so I could get around, and a coffee maker.

*** About Stephanie Burkhart’s book… ***
~ Blurb ~
* Rosa Getzi lives a life of intrigue at Poiana Brasov with Clement, a werewolf, and Cassandra, the witch. Her past doesn't matter to her – until she discovers what it holds.
* Prince Michael Sigmaringen joins his sister-in-law, Caroline, and the vampire prince, Darius, in a daring rescue, igniting Rosa's desire to find her family. However, all is not as it appears. Rickard, Rosa's friend, escapes with her. Clement will go to any lengths to get Rosa and Rickard back.
* At Darius' fortress, Michael soon discovers Rickard is a new breed of werewolf – one who can control the change, and Clement hopes to exploit Rickard's abilities.
* Michael's courage, strengths, and convictions will be tested like never before. Can Michael and Rosa find true happiness and the rid the lupine haunting of the Sigmaringens once and for all?
~ Excerpt ~
* He raised his hand and lowered his hood. An inherent strength filled his profile. Confidence. Concern. Relief.
* Rosa's breath jammed in her throat. He looked familiar. He smelled familiar.
* "Rosa, it's Michael. Let's go."
* "I'm not going anywhere with you."
* A frown set against his rugged features. "I don't have time to argue -- now put on a warm dress and cloak."
* "No." She was not going anywhere with him despite the relief in his voice.
* He sighed and shut the door. Moving with fluid grace, he crossed the room, jerked the door to her closet open and threw the items he wanted her to wear on her bed. "Get. Dressed."
* "No." She was determined not to budge, despite the danger outside.
* "Rosa, we're leaving."
* "I'm staying."
* "Why would you want to stay? Clement kidnapped you."
* Disconcerted, she pointedly glanced away from his hard stare. What did he mean by kidnapped? Clement didn't keep her behind bars and feed her only bread and water. Rosa could even go into Brasov to shop as long as Lucien or one of the bodyguards went with her.
* "I'm going to take you back to your mother."
* Her head snapped toward his direction. Mother? Of course she had a mother -- a family, even -- only she had no recollection of them. So why did her body fill with warmth at the mention of her mother by a man she hadn't seen before, but was hauntingly familiar? She pursed her lips, torn by conflicting emotions.
* "Caroline and Darius can't keep this up. Now get dressed or I'll dress you myself."
* "You'll find me an unwilling subject."
* He drew in a deep breath and raked a hand through his thick ebony hair. "You are exasperating."
* "So I've been told."

A look into the story

~ Blurb ~
* Romanian unification is on the horizon and the spirited Crown Princess of Carpathia, Caroline, would prefer to ride horses and archery to embroidery and dancing. Complicating her life is her recent discovery that she's a witch.
* Prince Stefan Sigmaringen travels to Carpathia to meet Caroline. He discovers he has much in common with her. He also learns that a strange man, Timon, has an unnatural interest in him.
* Upon Stefan's engagement, he overhears his mother confessing to a horrible secret – she cursed him in order to conceive him and Stefan will become a werewolf when he turns eighteen. There is a condition to overcome the curse, but it will require Stefan to draw on all his inner strength and Caroline, her courage. Can they break the foul enchantment and secure their future or will Stefan give himself over to the lupine curse that haunts his family?
~ Excerpt ~
* He ground his teeth and tugged her so close her lips crushed against his. His manhood pressed her thigh, and it thrilled her. Yet she was afraid. Is this how it was for a married couple? This insatiable craving that couldn't be tamed?
* A howl broke through the night air, shattering the intensity of the moment.
* Stefan pushed Caroline to the ground and covered her with his body. His lips brushed her ear. "Use your senses."
* She nodded.
* Wood cracked, and she glanced at the old wooden gate. The hinges snapped, and the door flew off its frame into the courtyard. Two men walked through, their yellow eyes giving away their presence in twilight's gray shadows.
* Juris and Timon.
* "Damn," Stefan muttered. He stood, fisting his hands. "Run, Caroline."
* She sat up and adjusted her dress, not prepared to abandon the man who had given her such pleasure. A powerful connection existed between her and Stefan. She wouldn't turn and run at the first sight of danger.
* "Feeling a little lusty, are we? So sorry to interrupt." Timon's voice was edged in steel. "Juris wants to watch."
* Thank God Caroline had nistal root with her. She plunged a hand into her pocket, pulled out a small pouch, and dug out some of the powder. She threw it on the ground. "Flame to life!"
* A bright light rose in the air and quickly flamed out. No way could Michael miss it. They needed his help.
* Stefan pounced on Juris, and the two of them tumbled over each other. Caroline was unsure what to do next. Timon crossed his arms as Stefan and Juris fought. Juris forcefully shoved Stefan away, and he struck his head on the wooden barrier. His eyes glazed over.
