Top 10 & #Giveaways ~ Jessica E. Subject & 'Bryce' @jsubject #SciFi #Romance

Today we have author Jessica E. Subject visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* Jessica E. Subject is the author of science fiction romance, mostly alien romances, ranging from sweet to super hot. Sometimes she dabbles in paranormal and contemporary as well, bringing to life a wide variety of characters. In her stories, you could not only meet a sexy alien or two, but also clones and androids. You may be transported to a dystopian world where rebels are fighting to live and love, or to another planet for a romantic rendezvous.
* When Jessica isn't reading, writing, or doing dreaded housework, she likes to get out and walk with her giant, hairy dog her family adopted from the local animal shelter.
* Jessica lives in Ontario, Canada with her husband and two energetic children. And she loves to hear from her readers. You can find her at jessicasubject.com.

Today Jessica E. Subject will be sharing her Ten Favorite Lines from BRYCE: Galactic Defenders book one (without any spoilers).
1 - Bryce raised his crossbow, lining his sights on the creature standing amongst the bushes, its branch-like tentacles undulating in the gentle breeze. Focusing the crosshairs on the alien’s torso, he drew in a deep breath. He had one shot. (Author Note: These are the opening lines of the story. To me, it displays the intensity of the opening scene, and what is going to happen throughout the story.)
2 - What child wanted to know her mother came from another planet? Or could keep the fact a secret?
3 - She’d heard the alien hunters used wormholes, but had never seen or traveled through one, and hoped to never again.
4 - “He’s probably really tired right now. Wasn’t very cooperative at first, but I managed to tame the beast.”
5 - Bryce had both Katrina and a young Kalaren on the ground doing push-ups. “Anytime you feel like releasing a little energy, this is what I want you to do.” He crouched in front of them while the other Defenders in the room watched in amusement.
6 - A little girl dashed out in front of her, jet-black curls bouncing along her shoulders. In her tattered white gown—probably a hand-me-down from an older generation—she stared up into her eyes, no reservations about approaching royalty. “Princess Lalia, where have you been? They taught us in school you were killed in the Erebus attack.”
7 - And what was she supposed to have told them? You must meet with me because I’m an alien princess? No doubt the truth would have landed her in a mental institution, or worse, a lab.
8 - A tiny head with jet-black hair peeked out from under a tree root. “Princess, is it really you?”
9 - “A planet has just been destroyed.” The thought of growling at the young Vella crossed his mind. Instead, he sidestepped him and headed to the control room to meet the leader of the Galactic Alliance. “There is no good news today.”
10 - “You may be responsible for sending them to Niesgoo, but you’re only responsible for their deaths if you leave them there to die.”
A look into...
~ Blurb ~
* A dedicated Defender…
* Bryce fell in love once, but after Lalia was ripped away from him, he locked his heart from feeling anything for anyone else. Instead, he devotes his life to the Galactic Alliance, killing every bloodthirsty Erebus he comes across.
* A shunned princess…
* Lalia Comosova fell in love with the wrong man. When her parents learned of her transgressions, they sent her to Earth to hide her error in judgment from the rest of the kingdom.
* A second chance?
* When these lovers are reunited after many years apart, they have a chance to find happiness together. But fate steps in and threatens to rip them apart as it did years ago.
~ Excerpt ~
* Bryce raised his crossbow, lining his sights on the creature standing amongst the bushes, its branch-like tentacles undulating in the gentle breeze. Focusing the crosshairs on the alien’s torso, he drew in a deep breath. He had one shot. If he missed, the Erebus would cry out and alert the natives of Terra to its existence, resulting in more casualties. At first glance, no one on the planet, also called Earth, would believe an Erebus anything more than an overgrown bush, but Bryce knew the truth. He’d trained to hunt the creatures from childhood.
* Each step carefully placed, he advanced until he stood twenty feet from the Erebus, no chance to miss the shot. With a slight movement of his finger, he squeezed the trigger, sending a zuranium-tipped arrow racing toward the alien.
* “Quinn, would you grab me another garbage bag?”
* Fornax. The creature lunged toward the female voice, Bryce’s arrow stuck in one of its tentacles. A kill, but not instant.
* He loaded another arrow. At the risk of being seen, he charged through the hedges. He had to cut the Erebus off before it had a chance to kill the Terran. He leaped over metal furniture and large urns, keeping his focus on the creature.
* “What the hell? Get out of my yard!”
* The woman rushed him, but Bryce darted around her. When the Erebus lumbered in front of him, he raised his weapon and fired. A clean shot to the middle. The creature dropped like a fallen log, crushing the furniture it landed on.
* Bryce loaded the crossbow again. No time to celebrate the kill. He had to worry about the possibility of other Erebus in the area, along with the Terran woman who had seen him. Instead of running away screaming, as he’d expected her to do, she stared, wide-eyed in horror. Not at him, but the Erebus. Her body trembled as she shuffled backward, mumbling incomprehensible words.
* An unexpected sense of familiarity washed over him. He couldn’t draw his attention away from her slim figure, the way her long brown hair flowed over her shoulders. Far more attractive than he’d pictured the Terrans when others talked about them. He took a closer glance. Lalia? How had she traveled so far from home without anyone knowing? She was no stranger, and definitely not Terran. Or, perhaps she was simply a doppelganger of the woman he’d once loved. He had the sudden urge to comfort her, relieve her worry. Hold her in his arms the way he had many years ago. But what if the missing princess had somehow made her way to a planet unaware life existed beyond their own? After she’d left Hemera and him behind without so much as a goodbye, he’d searched everywhere. Though not once had he thought to look on Terra.
* A ground-shattering bellow pierced the night. Bryce spun around, finding himself face-to-face with another Erebus. It stared at him with beady red eyes. Thick black goop dripped from its mouth.
* Bryce raised his bow, but the creature slammed him with one of its tentacles, flinging him back. The Erebus lunged at Lalia.
* Rolling to his knees, Bryce aimed and fired. He hit the alien from behind, launching it forward. Onto his former lover. Slinging the bow over his shoulder, he raced toward her. The creature’s tentacles still pulsed, even though dead. Careful not to trip himself up, he shoved his hands under the creature’s torso and heaved it off her.
* Lalia stood immediately and wiped the black goop from her clothes, as if she hadn’t been flattened by an alien. “They weren’t supposed to follow me. I was supposed to be safe here.”

A Look At London Saint James & 'Rise of the Lost Prince' @LSJRomance @evernightpub #erotic #fairytale

Today we have author London Saint James visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* *Waves* I’m London. My favorite flowers are orchids. I hate watching reruns on TV. My taste in music is eclectic. I like alpha males with scowls to die for. Wait. This isn’t a dating profile. *Smiles* Here’s what you really want to know. I’m a multi-published romance author, who tends to write more erotic romance than not, but I’ve been known to write a sweet story or two.
* My official bio is: London Saint James has lived in many places, but never felt “at home” until she met the real-life man of her dreams and settled down in the beautiful Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. London lives with her husband and their fat cat who thinks he owns them.
* As an award-winning, bestselling, multi-published author, London is living her childhood dream. She knew all the scribbling she did, that big imagination of hers, and all those clamoring characters running around in her head would pay off someday.

What book are you going to tell us about today? Is it part of a series? If so, what's the order the books should be read in?
* Today, I’m going to be chatting up my brand new release from Evernight Publishing, Rise of the Lost Prince, which is the first book in the Lost Boys series.

How'd you/your muse come up with this story?
* Well, I suppose my muse had been pondering a story based loosely on Peter Pan, only with sexy warrior types and a badass version of Peter, which is named Petúr. FYI, my muse is a bit crazy, because I was in the middle of writing another story, when the muse said stop and write about Neverland. (Neverland is an abandoned seaside amusement park) So, I listen to my muse, as I always do, sat the story I was writing aside for the moment, and brought Neverland and the Lost Boys to life. Problem was, the characters had much more to say. Maybe that’s not really a problem. *Smiles* But, we’ll see the rest of the cast of characters again, since Rise of the Lost Prince is the first in the Lost Boy series.

Describe the hero in five words.
* Sexy. Badass. Warrior. Loyal. Protective.

Describe the heroine in five words.
* Loving. Truthful. Trustworthy. Loyal. Caring.

Who's your favorite character in the book & why?
* Oh, gosh. I love them all. They are all different, but while I love my heroine, and my hero. I think spunky and sassy Bell, whose one of the integral cast of characters, is probably going to end up being my favorite.

What's your favorite line in the story?
* Here’s more than one line, but it’s probably one of my favorites. This is after Petúr has saved Wyndi from an evil darkling attack, and he notices more about her than he wants to notice about a human woman.
* Her sweet cotton candy scent assaulted his nose once more. His dick stirred beneath the leather of his D-ring jeans. Would she melt in his mouth like the candy would? His brow furrowed. What was wrong with him? He took in another deep breath, allowing her bouquet to linger. Maybe the ache would go away if he just tasted those full lips. No. He shook his head in an attempt to shake away the urge.

A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
* They fight to protect those who would never welcome them into the human world...
* Petúr always knew he and his brothers-in-arms were different. Something more. Something not human. Yet, he never expected to find out the truth of their origins, nor fall for a human woman whose father was set to destroy Neverland.
* Ever since she was a child, Wyndi dreamed of an angel with eyes of the purest gold, although she never really believed such a man existed until she met the hauntingly beautiful Petúr of the lost boys.
* With a prophecy to fulfill, a woman to protect, a portal to find, and evil darklings out for blood, will Petúr be strong enough to rise up and claim what’s rightfully his, or lose everything to a long-time nemesis, Grapple the Dark?
Be Warned: Voyeurism, Violence
~ Excerpt ~
* Petúr’s long coat flared out behind him, whipping in the wind—black raven wings. Above him, the moon danced in and out of existence and periodically hid behind the dreary clouds. He’d perched himself atop the rusted metal monstrosity which sat cold and derelict among the ruins of the abandoned seaside amusement park. From the top of the lifeless Ferris wheel he surveyed his realm, just as he did every night, waiting for the faint cries. They always came, those haunting cries, and called him and the lost boys into the darkness.
* Cables clacked and Petúr tilted his head in a bird-like gesture, listening to them echo into the rhythmic music of the tide coming ashore. As if on cue, an eerie underlying chorus chimed in from the direction of the closed ticket booth. He recognized the sound of the warped roof when it moaned and creaked. The red painted exterior walls had long since faded and peeled away from the briny wood in elongated streaks, reminiscent of morbid tears.
* He closed his eyes and attempted to picture this place he and the others called home, trying to imagine what it must have been during its glory days, but he couldn’t see anything. All he knew was the truth of his surroundings. And, the truth was, with every passing year more of his home crumbled. Even the entrance into this collapsing kingdom had joined the sea, snuffing out the arched sign which once upon a time blinked—Neverland—Mother Nature’s way of taking back her own when she’d claimed a major portion of the boardwalk.
* Everything ends.

~ Excerpt ~
* Blue barked and I knew the man was still alive and coming my way. My eyes were stinging from the smoke and the sweat. My thighs burned from crouching and my right arm throbbed from its wounds. I thought I heard him moving away from me. Maybe he was just trying to escape. It was possible the man didn't want to face me. I stayed still, waiting to see him. Then I heard Blue growl, a body hit the ground. A gun went off. I was flying toward the sound. My fear for Blue stronger than any other instinct.
* There was movement in the grasses ahead and I was suddenly upon them. Blue had the man's arm in his mouth. The gun pointed in my direction. The man was wailing at Blue's body with his free fist, grunting with the effort. The man spotted me and was about to pull the trigger when I brought my machete down onto his wrist, almost severing his hand. Blood spurted out of the wound and I felt it land, warm and wet, on my hands and forearms. Droplets splattered my cheeks and forehead. He screamed, piercing and hardly human.
* Blue held onto his forearm as the man struggled. His face was growing paler. His blood soaked into the dust. I walked up to the man and aimed my gun at his forehead. He went to speak but I pulled the trigger. The bang was loud. His eyes were open, the wound between them oozing blood slower than the severed hand.

A Look At Beth D. Carter & 'The Treasure Hunters' @BethDCarter @evernightpub #historical #adventure

Today we have author Beth D. Carter visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* I like writing about the very ordinary girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances, so my heroines will probably never be lawyers, doctors or corporate highrollers. I try to write characters who aren't cookie cutters and push myself to write complicated situations that I have no idea how to resolve, forcing me to think outside the box. I love writing characters who are real, complex and full of flaws, heroes and heroines who find redemption through love.
* I’ve been pretty fortunate in life to experience some amazing things. I’ve lived in France, traveled throughout Europe, Australia and New Zealand. I am a mom to an amazing little boy. I’m surrounded by friends and family. I hate washing dishes but I love cooking. I hate washing clothes but I love wearing them. Writing my bio is difficult because I never know what to say so I hope you like this one. My favorite color is red but I look best in black (it’s slimming). I hate people who don't pick up their dog's crap in public places, people who don’t use turn signals, and I really hate people who are rude and condescending. I especially hate discrimination in all and every form. And although I love holding a book in my hand, I absolutely adore my e-reader, whom I’ve named Ruby. I love to hear from readers so I’ve made it really easy to find me on the web.

What are you going to tell us about today?
* My historical, sea adventure romance, The Treasure Hunters.

A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
* When the stock market crashes on October 29, 1929, it doesn’t take long for Ruby Talcott to lose everything. Her father’s shipping legacy slips through her fingers. Alone, destitute, she packs up her two best friends Eden and Merridie, and takes them to England for a new life.
* Working in her family’s warehouse of unclaimed cargo, she foils a plot to steal a map. But this isn’t just any map…it’s to a lost pirate treasure. Ruby takes the map for herself and convinces Eden and Merridie to go with her to find the priceless treasure.
* She finds Captain Sinclair Dardon, a man also hit hard by the economic turn, to sail them towards adventure. But Ruby didn’t count on her wild attraction to the handsome Captain. Nor did she expect he has his own bad guys hunting him.
~ Excerpt ~
* She was vaguely aware her mouth dropped open. Before her wasn’t the typical scruffy-bearded, dirty boat captain. This man was young. And handsome. More butterflies fluttered in her stomach. He had short black hair that looked like he’d been running his fingers through it in aggravation. He needed a shave, but Ruby rather thought his slight whiskers enhanced his looks rather than detracted. Although he looked tough, he had kind eyes––blue maybe, or green. It was hard to tell in the muted lantern light. He was tall, muscular, and when their gazes met her heart stuttered in her chest.
* “My name is Sin,” he said, introducing himself, although his gaze stayed locked upon her.
* “Literally or figuratively?” Merridie asked dryly.
* He winked at her. “Captain Sinclair Dardon. Who are you, and how may I help you?”
* “I’m Ruby Talcott, and that’s Merridie Morgan and Eden Cariker. We need passage to Africa,” Ruby said, ignoring the odd excitement gripping her insides. Now was not the time to get distracted by a pretty face. Oh, but that was easier said than done, especially once he turned those hypnotizing eyes back her way.
* “Why do you think I can help?”
* “The registry office has you listed on heading to Africa this morning. We just need a ride.”
* “I’m not a passenger ship.”
* “We won’t be passengers,” Ruby insisted. “We can earn our way.”
* The way his gaze traveled up and down her body had her blood heating up and leaving little doubt to what was going through his lascivious mind.
* “This isn’t a whorehouse either,” he stated.

A Look At Hawk MacKinney & 'The Missing Planets' @GoddessFish #scifi #sciencefiction

Those who know me, know I am a very eclectic reader, and I like to highlight a variety of authors on my blog. Today I'm happy to welcome author Hawk MacKinney.

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* With postgraduate degrees and faculty appointments in several medical universities, Hawk MacKinney has taught graduate courses in both the United States and Jerusalem. In addition to professional articles and texts on chordate neuroembryology, Hawk has authored several works of fiction.
* Hawk began writing mysteries for his school newspaper. His works of fiction, historical love stories, science fiction and mystery-thrillers are not genre-centered, but plot-character driven, and reflect his southwest upbringing in Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma. Moccasin Trace, a historical novel nominated for the prestigious Michael Shaara Award for Excellence in Civil War Fiction and the Writers Notes Book Award, details the family bloodlines of his serial protagonist in the Craige Ingram Mystery Series. Vault of Secrets, the first book in the Ingram series, was followed by Nymrod Resurrection, Blood and Gold, and The Lady of Corpsewood Manor. All have received national attention. Walking the Pet is Hawk’s latest release in the Ingram series. The first book in another mystery-thriller series is scheduled for release in 2015. The Bleikovat Event, the first volume in The Cairns of Sainctuarie science fiction series, was released in 2012. Its sequel, The Missing Planets, has just been released.

What are you going to tell us about today?
* My science fiction story, The Missing Planets.

A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
* Planet Terato has become a member of the assembly of the Confederated League of Allied Star Systems. The Murian Outpost Terato once commanded by His Imperial Majesty’s Lord High Chamberlain Herklo Korvo XXXIV is now Teratoan staffed and under the command of Teratoan Eklam a’Qoc.
* From the uncharted reaches between galaxies, attacks of extraordinary weaponry come against Terato and the Myr worlds of the Murians. Terminus Terato’s expanded link-portals and converter power modules are virtually useless. Power loss, defenses, communications and travel are totally disrupted. High Chamberlain Korvo’s unexpected return to Terminus on a mission for His Imperial Majesty leaves him stranded on Terato. Attacks grow more massive, more unpredictable; spread across the worlds of the League, as an isolated Terminus struggles among the shattered rubble and whispering remains of an ancient Polity of star-walkers.
* Family and friends are lost, empires and civilizations in disarray, Terminus and Planet Terato almost defenseless. Desperate for answers, their worlds being overwhelmed by this remorseless aggressor, Eklam and Korvo reach across unexplored space in a despairing gamble and the last reserves of converter star-substrate, seeking one insignificant star system of gas giants and rocky inner planets for possible relics of the elusive Lantaraan Polity.
~ Excerpt ~
* Uncle a’Qoc hadn’t been wrong; much had changed. Like the ancient Teratoan proverb… change is part of life, change had come. In ways big and small it had touched all of them. Touched worlds beyond what even Uncle a’Qoc and his determined nephew foreknew, and changed things even the mighty Murian Empire could not know—a tumult of the unexpected. Ek was already a Senior Apprentice the first time he met Herklo Korvo; was one of four honor escorts at the hurried change of command: ruddy-faced Outpost Commander Kartn Gurlo relieved by the steely green-eyed Grand Duke Korvo. Ek sensed Gurlo’s anxiety as Gurlo and the Grand Duke talked with one another. During his apprentice time in Outpost Terato, Ek had started learning the Murian syntax; had studied the complex grammar of the Murian tongue, usually spoken with a soft evenness, and caught only the uttered harsh bleak abrupt Murian idiom.
* Since then Ek hadn’t heard the expression. The discordant tone of the expression struck a jar to Ek’s ears. In time he learned the expression came from the Malfesian War, when the slaughter of western Feldovat clans destroyed some bloodlines. “…s' bleikovaat... ” Carried an intense meaning for Murians. “…events with unforeseen results... ”
* None of the others in the honor escort picked up on Gurlo’s disquiet or the cause of it, Ek likely the only one with a grasp of the Murian idiom. And none of the apprentices were aware of its breakpoint implication, of the unexplainable upheavals rushing toward their home-worlds.

A Look At Emma Calin & 'Shannon’s Law' ~ @EmmaCalin @GoddessFish #music #action

Today we have author Emma Calin visiting. Welcome!

......Thank you so much for letting me showcase my forthcoming steamy action-romance novel SHANNON’S LAW. It’s the second in my PASSION PATROL series - stories where sassy female cops lock up the criminals and always get their man.
......February marks the start of my “Pinterest Reveal Virtual Book Tour” in the run-up to the launch on the 28th February 2014.
......Every day there are feature posts on topics relating to SHANNON’S LAW on blogs all around the world. They’re all linked together on one big Pinterest Board. Each post replaces a ‘mystery’ silhouette that was posted in January. I saved all my notes and photos as I was writing, on a private Pinterest Board and now I can share them with you.
......Today’s subject is: Music of Shannon’s Law – Workout to Purgatory Hill
Purgatory Hill
......Music plays quite frequently in Shannon's Law.
......My heroine trains hard on her mountain bike to keep fit. She used to buzz around the streets of London – but has now been relocated to the more rural Fleetworth Green. She listens to music to keep up the pace.
......One of my own favorite albums to work out to is the raunchy rock of Pat Macdonald’s “Purgatory Hill” It was inevitable my heroine Shannon would inherit my taste in music.
......I first came across Pat Macdonald’s music in my twenties, in a post-punk group called “Timbuk3.” I believe they only had one hit in the UK : “The Future’s so Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades.” It was intended as a rather dark and ironic comment on the future – but it got hijacked as a bit of a theme tune for the graduating middle classes in those hedonistic days of the 80’s.
......Since then Pat Macdonald disappeared from the mainstream. He has been busy playing local gigs and has become an icon of the “Cigar Box” guitar scene. These guitars are literally made out of old cigar boxes and broom handles. They frequently only have 4 strings – 3 electric guitar strings and one deep bass string. The sound they make is absolutely RAW! Pat is more or less a one-man-band and gets this hard-rock bluesy sound that is so deep down and dirty it touches the corners of your soul. He is an incredible musician. I want one of these guitars and of course, Pat Macdonald to play it! It certainly gets my adrenaline going.
......If you have never heard cigar box guitar, here is a link to Pat Macdonald playing “Baby Love.”
......You can download their album here – spice up your workout!
A look into...
~ Blurb ~
......Wild child inner-city cop Shannon Aguerri walks a dangerous line between her methods and justice. When the bosses lose their nerve, after yet another maverick mission, she is transferred to green pastures to play out the role of a routine village cop. When she encounters signs of slave and drug trafficking she homes in on serious millionaire criminals.
......As a loner she has attracted men but nothing has stuck. When she meets Spencer, the hunky and widowed Earl of Bloxington, there is an immediate rapport between them. Their social differences mean nothing to their passion and need.
......Already in the mix is an upper class female rival – who has long plotted her way into the Earl's bed. The jealousy is an evil shade of green and the anger is a violent scarlet.
......Often inhibited by a sense of duty and honour, Spencer is slow to reveal his feelings. When Shannon confronts him with the need to choose between her word and that of her rival, he does not immediately support her.
......All issues are set aside, when they are forced together to carry out a desperate rescue mission. Their love is stronger than everything ranged against them.
......Author's note: This book is quite 'strongly flavoured' and features uninhibited, but straightforward steamy sexual scenes between consenting adults and true-to-life street language that would occur in high-stress situations.
