A Look At Erzabet Bishop & 'Club Beam' @Erzabet Bishop @decadentpub #UrbanFantasy

Today we have author Erzabet Bishop visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* Erzabet Bishop is the author of Club Beam, Sigil Fire, Written on Skin, Tethered, Pomegranate, Temptation Resorts Jess and Marnie interactive choose your own adventure romances and more. She is a contributing author to The Big Book of Submission, Slave Girls, Hungry for More and many other anthologies. She is a winner of two 2015 Goldie Awards for her work in anthologies and an active member of the Romance Writers of America. She lives in Texas with her husband, furry children and is often playing at local bookstores. Follow her posts on Twitter @ Erzabet Bishop.

Today Erzabet Bishop will be talking about how she handles balancing life and writing.
* Sometimes my life and writing don’t go hand in hand. I work a full time job as a bookstore manager and my schedule is anything but set. There are days I have to be at work at six in the morning and other times three in the afternoon. It’s a bouncing ball but I manage.
* I’ve heard a lot of writing advice over the years and have come to a single conclusion. The only thing you simply must do is not give up. #Don’t Quit. Things can get tough. Life gets in the way. All the time and every day. You steal time here and there and you make it happen. You. No one else.
* What does that mean? You think about plot lines when you’re folding laundry or making dinner. You write down notes so when you get in front of the computer you’re ready to rock. There is no time to stare at the screen and wonder what’s coming out of your fingertips today. Nope. You only have twenty minutes? Use it. Any word count is good word count as long as it points you in the right direction. And if not? You scrap it or save it and start again.
* Right now I’m on vacation and that means I have deadlines. Big ones and lots of them but I use my time as best I can. I’m getting faster at my hourly word count and I love my Pro Writing Aid for quick edits before the story goes out the door.
* Rejections? All the time. You get up, dust your pants off and send it out again. Learn from every one. You may not see it yet, but you will and then you’ll laugh and rework it. Happens. It’s a work of writing. They aren’t rejecting you.
* If you want to write, there are sacrifices that will be made. My hubby loves to watch movies and play games in the living room. I can maybe get twenty minutes of television in while I’m eating and then I’m back on task with a vengeance. Time is precious, so I snag it when I can. He helps me with trips to the grocery store and the occasional fast food run. And he knows after dinner-it’s my time and when the bedroom door shuts, I’m in at least until a quarter to one if I don’t have to be up at an ungodly hour the next morning.
* So life…writing. We tango. We weave around each other and hope to meet in the middle some days. And when we do…ah. It’s magic.
A look into...
Inspiration and motivation
* When I first contacted Decadent Publishing to inquire about their fairy tale line I was assigned a story called “The Beam.” I looked it up and found out it was about a wizard who is bested by a woman and he exacts his revenge. Whenever I encounter a new project like this, I have to sit down and think about what all the moving parts mean. In this case, how to turn a story like this into a modern romance that readers would find appealing. Since I tend to write urban fantasy slanted pieces, I immediately laser beamed in on the wizard and witch part. I mean, how cool is that to have a ready-made story ripe for the picking? I just had to add some modern twists. What would be more modern than a witchy karaoke event and fairy tale fetish night?
* The process of writing for me is an organic one. It begins with a legal pad and a series of colorful sticky notes and a foam board. I start thinking about the chapters and what needs to happen to make the story move and there you go-plot points on sticky notes I can adjust as needed. It works too. Sydney had lots of thoughts on where she wanted to go and believe me, she is still in there talking. The second book in the Shadow World series is already writing itself (think dragon shifters and a psychic) and I can see the fireworks shaping up nicely.
* Check out further adventures with Master Gideon and Sydney in Sci Spanks 2015 now available on Amazon. You might just get invited for a session behind the Red Door. Master Gideon has a paddle and he’s ready to play. There will be more where that came from, you can count on that… Amazon
* I hope you will enjoy the introduction to my Shadow World series and return to Club Beam for many more adventures. I am happy to share that the audio book is now in the works.
~ Blurb ~
* In the Shadow World, nothing is as it seems.
* Detective Sydney Marr is having a very bad day. Her boss is on the warpath, she’s being treated for a werewolf bite, and her current case has hit a dead end. When her friend Erika talks Syd into going with her to Club Beam, she jumps at the chance, even if it means spending an evening without her spell arsenal. A high-class vampire bar and fetish club, Club Beam is fantasy made real.
* Club owner and Dom Gideon Raines spies the red-haired beauty and is transfixed. A fight against a skillful murderer brings war for fae and vampire alike. Sometimes when you play with monsters, the monsters play back.
~ Excerpt ~
* “Once upon a time….” Erika sang and waggled her eyebrows. “Come on, Sydney. Live a little. This club is smoking hot, and you’ll love it.”
* Sydney grumbled under her breath and watched the club-goers parade past, each dressed like a fairy-tale character. The Little Mermaid trounced by in a see-through, diaphanous gown revealing too much in the way of personal attributes. Sleeping Beauty sashayed down the sidewalk with a leash around the neck of her Prince Charming. A woman in a way-too-short Red Riding Hood outfit approached. Her arm was wrapped around a seductress dressed in wolf ears, a tail, and a skimpy thong-style bikini. Red carried a basket full of what looked like pink fuzzy handcuffs and a can of whipped cream, which she swung into Syd.
* “Hey!”
* The red-cloaked vixen sent her a wink and traipsed on by, joined by a near-pornographic version of the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland. Any shorter and the skirt would show her naughty bits. Or maybe that was the plan.
* Syd had just gotten off her day shift as a detective, and the last thing she wanted to do was be around more people. Especially people with more skin showing than on late-night cable shows. Her head hurt from the lights and the pulse of the music, and her stupid witch costume was pinching her toes. Erika’s scant fairy costume hugged all her curves, her breasts bursting from the bodice. The skirt barely covered her backside, and the strappy silver sandals showed off her silver-glitter nail polish.
* The building loomed next to them. A giant warehouse-like structure, it was large enough to house all manner of mischief, and Syd was itching with the desire to get inside and find out just what was going on behind its doors. The sidewalk was flagged by trees lit up with twinkly white lights, adding an upscale ambiance to the area. What in the daylight looked like an industrial area gone to the dogs had been transformed into an attractive and well-attended venue.
* She didn’t have the heart to tell Erika she’d been here once already today for the case she was working on, but the entrance had been sealed up tighter than a drum. Sydney’s recourse was to infiltrate Club Beam by night as a patron. Her sergeant, Debra, would kill her if she realized Syd had even considered going in without backup. So would her partner, James. Erika had asked her to come so she wouldn’t be alone, and, despite herself, Syd couldn’t resist. To catch a vampire, you had to go out at night, and Club Beam was the hot spot. After last month’s fuckup, she had to do this and do it right, even if it killed her. James was on medical leave, and it remained up to her to get this guy before someone else got killed or turned furry.
* I will not think about becoming one of the terminally furry. It’s over. Move on. Take the pills the doctor gave you and freaking pray.
* “Oh look. I think I see Snow White.” Erika stood on her tiptoes and craned her head along the huge expanse of line they still had to navigate to get inside.
* Syd peered into the crowd and grimaced. Hairy legs. More makeup than a Mac commercial. “Nope. That was a guy in drag.”
* Erika narrowed her eyes. “God, Syd. You’re the world’s biggest wet blanket ever.”
* Sydney shifted her weight and moved another two steps toward the door as the line inched forward. “I told you, I’ve had a hard day. We had a homicide case come in, and I’ve been out beating the street. I want to go home and bury my head under my pillow. But, no. Out of the kindness of my heart, here I am standing in line at a vampire bar with a bunch of overgrown kids playing dress-up in fairy-tale fetish wear.”

Sydney St. Claire & 'BEAUTY SUBMITS TO HER BEAST' @Sydneystclaire @GoddessFish #romance

Today we have author Sydney St. Claire visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* Sydney St. Claire is the pseudonym of Susan Edwards, author of 14 Historical Native American/Western/Paranormal romances and the author of the popular “White” Series.
* Sydney loves writing and sharing stories of love, happiness and dreams come true with her readers. She credits her mother for her writing success. Encouraged to read as a child, she always preferred happy endings which meant romances were her favorite genre. Sydney takes her readers into the world of erotica romance where her characters come together in explosive passion as they solve life’s problems and find true love along with the best sex our hero and heroine have ever experienced.
* Sydney’s office is quite crowded with three dogs at her feet and five cats to keep her company while she writes. Three cats always insist on beds on her desk, barely leaving enough room for her monitor and keyboard. Life gets fun when all five insist on supervising…
* When not writing, she enjoys crafts of all sorts including quilting, sewing, cross-stitch and knitting. She and her husband of 30 + years are avid gardeners. He takes care of the veggies, and Susan is in charge of the ‘pretties’. Her medicine wheel garden is in a contact state of war: flowers vs. weeds. Sadly, right now the weeds are wining…
* While writing, she listens to a wide variety of music. Her current favorites are Blackmore’s Night and David Lanz.

What are you going to tell us about today?
* My story, BEAUTY SUBMITS TO HER BEAST.
A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
* Rancher Caitlin Olsen is in complete control of her life. After years of taking care of others, she’s on her own and loving every minute. She has her horses and her ranch. What more does she need? Yet deep inside, she yearns to give up all her responsibilities and simply experience life. When a friend suggests she try a bit of BDSM role-play, she does her research and accepts an invitation to Pleasure Manor for a fairy tale event.
* War hero and Dominant, Damon Steele is a loner. His failure to keep his men alive destroyed too many hopes and dreams. He won’t be responsible for anyone else's life or happiness ever again. There’s no room in his life—or his heart—for romance. Instead, he satisfies his needs at BDSM clubs and never with the same sub. Taking part in the fairy tale event at Pleasure Manor is difficult enough, but when Beauty challenges him both in the bedroom and out, he’s not sure he can control his inner beast.
~ Excerpt ~
* “Damon, could you come over here?” She held the reins of the two in bad shape.
* He joined her. “Caitlin—”
* “Look at them. Mistreated, abused, and abandoned. Now they’ll find hope, contentment, and happiness. They’ll never go hungry or be alone. They’ll learn to trust and love. Their lives start here. And they’ll live to be old and die here.”
* “I’m not a horse to be saved, Caitlin. I’m not abused or mistreated or starved.” He shoved aside the abandonment he’d felt as a child. He’d gotten over his childhood a long time ago but knew he’d never forgive himself for abandoning his men.
* She met his gaze, her whiskey-dark eyes churning with emotion and the sheen of tears. “You abuse yourself, Damon. You mistreat you, and you are as starved as any of these horses. Not of food but of acceptance and forgiveness. Like each of these animals, you’ve lost hope. These animals were helpless to change their situations. They couldn’t fight for happiness. But you can.” Her gaze turned intense. “And you will.”
* She cupped the side of his face with one hand. “I’m not asking you to stay for me, not even asking for you to give us a chance. I want to help you heal and find your way back.”
* He lowered his forehead to hers. “Caitlin…”
* His throat closed off, stopping him from telling her he didn’t deserve what she offered. He closed his eyes. He was better off alone, but her touch, her scent, her voice arrowed deep into his being. Some long-denied part of him screamed for what she offered.
* A hard nudge to his shoulder threw him off balance, and he landed on his ass. Blinking, he glared at the black horse with sad eyes staring down at him. She lowered her head and snorted, her breath fanning his face. “What the hell?”
* Caitie laughed gently. “I think you’ve been claimed.” She reached down and helped Damon to his feet. She handed him the reins. “She’s yours.”
* “What?” This time when the animal butted against him, he was braced and ready.
* “While you’re here, you are responsible for her care. You’ll feed her, clean her stall, exercise her, groom her, make her feel safe, and teach her to trust and love.”
* “That’s a tall order for a couple hours.” He eyed the mare and swore he felt a connection as he stared into her large, soft, brown eyes.
* Caitlin patted his shoulder. “Oh, I think you’ll be here longer.”
* The sound of wheels crunching gravel had him whipping around. “Dammit.” Glorie rolled down her window. “I packed what I could for you while you were in the shower.” She wrinkled her nose. “Might need to wash most of them first.” She waggled her fingers, then she and her car shot down the drive toward the highway.

A Look At Jael Wye & 'Ladder to the Red Star' ~ @jaelwye @GoddessFish @CarinaPress #scifi #romance

Today we have author Jael Wye visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* I grew up on the American Great Plains, went to school in the Midwest, and now live in beautiful New England with my family and my enormous collection of houseplants.
* For more of Jael’s unique blend of futurism and fairy tale, don’t miss her ongoing series Once Upon A Red World.

What book are you going to tell us about today? Is it part of a series? If so, what's the order the books should be read in?
* My new release is Ladder to the Red Star, a retelling of Jack and the beanstalk set on a ruined planet Earth 300 years in the future. This science fiction romance is the second book in my Once Upon a Red World series, which follows the lives of Martian colonists and the men and women who love them. Each book in the series can be read as a stand-alone, because it retells a classic fairy tale with its own resolution for the main characters. However, every book in the series also delves deeper into an overarching conspiracy that threatens the inhabited planets of the Solar system. To understand how the threads of this plot begin to unravel, read Ice Red Book I of Once Upon a Red World first.

How'd you/your muse come up with this story?
* I first conceived of the idea of retelling fairy tales in a science fiction setting about five years ago, inspired by the science fiction worlds of Kim Stanley Robinson and Linnea Sinclair. How would magical motifs like enchanted mirrors and golden eggs translate into technological miracles like video screens and data spheres? Even more importantly, how would the social and psychological structures of fairy tales appear in a futuristic world? The concept intrigued me so much I just had to write it all down and share it with everyone.

Describe the hero in five words.
* A difficult challenge! All right, Jacques, the hero is; gorgeous, blond, smart, damaged, and possessive.

Describe the heroine in five words.
* Devi, the heroine would be; sexy, dark, brilliant, fun, and commitment-phobic.

Who's your favorite character in the book & why?
* A lot of writers and readers identify with the heroine of a book first, but I always have a soft spot for the heroes. Jacques is the perfect combination of ruthless power and emotional vulnerability wrapped in a beautiful male package. He just melts my butter.

What's your favorite line in the story?
* One of my favorite lines comes in the scene where Jacques is trying to convince Devi to marry him, and she isn’t sure he’s really ready to commit to her alone. He says, “There are never going to be other women. None of them could compare to you. You are the most beautiful, brilliant woman in all the Sol. You blind me. You ruin me. It will only be you, forever.” Sigh…

A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
* Once upon a ruined Earth 300 years in the future...
* Jacques Tallinn, biotech smuggler and thief, is after the cure for a brain disorder he's suffered since childhood--a disorder inflicted by a powerful tyrant. To get the cure, Jacques will need to climb the space elevator to the new Zenith space station hovering above Earth and go undercover in the lab where it's produced.
* Martian head tech Devi Chandra is immediately intrigued by her sexy new lab assistant. Though she insists on keeping things professional, she finds herself charmed by Jacques. Until he betrays her trust, kidnapping her and spiriting her off to Earth.
* All Jacques needed to do was steal the biotech and get back home. But when things go wrong, he can't bring himself to leave Devi behind. Now she's injured and a simple caper has become an intergalactic cause, endangering his life and the lives of millions of others. But the hardest part? Winning back Devi's trust.
~ Excerpt ~
* Jacques leaned back against the wall across from Devi’s com booth, scanning the large, busy room. He didn’t like this. The com center was crowded with consoles and bustling with people wandering through on all sorts of business, some legitimate, most not. At any other time, the scene wouldn’t bother him, but with Devi near, his nerves were strung tight as wires.
* Danger was drawing close. He could see no threat, but he could feel one, taste it in the air like the crackle of a lightning storm. He had to get Devi out of here, back to Santos where she would be safe.
* But what if, after talking to her mother, after remembering the life he had stolen her from, she didn’t want to go with him?
* A bead of sweat trickled down his neck. If she came out of that booth and asked him to take her to a spaceport, he was truly afraid of what he would do. That he would become ten times the ruthless, soulless bastard he had always believed himself to be. That he would keep her, whether or not she wanted to be kept, whether or not she hated him for it.
* She was his life. How could he give up his life?
* He closed his eyes, and for the first time since he was a child, he prayed to Heaven.
* Please. I can’t let her go.
* “You don’t have to. I’m staying with you, Jacques.”
* His eyes shot open. She was standing across from him in the open com booth, a shine of happiness on her that made his breath stutter as he looked at her. Unknowingly, he had spoken aloud, and she had heard and answered his prayer.
* A hot bright light burst inside him, joy so profound it was beyond words. He stepped toward her, entranced.
* That was when the assassin struck.
* A thin figure like a huge black spider leapt at Devi from behind a tall console, hands outstretched, a blade glinting in one fist.
