A Look At Starla Kaye & 'Cowboy Dreamin’' @starla_kaye @decadentpub #menage #GLBT

Today we have author Starla Kaye visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* Starla has been writing and publishing in different romance sub-genres and lengths for twenty years. Her first published book, Tug of Love, was a “sweet” romance published with iUniverse. Currently she mainly writes edgier romances with an erotic or slightly naughty focus.
* She enjoys writing about strong-willed, independent women who butt heads with equally determined, self-confident, and slightly domineering men. Her belief in relation to her heroes is to find them their perfect match, but make him really work for the happily-for-now or happily-ever-after with the woman who wins his heart. Of course, she likes her heroines to be challenged as well. Love isn't easy.
* To date she has published 20 novels, 38 novellas, 8 anthologies, 3 audio books, and 18 short stories. Starla writes for Decadent Publishing, Black Velvet Seductions, and Blushing Books.

* Kendra spends her days and nights running a business, sculpting, and leading a Tahitian dance group in Kauai. She can’t squeeze anything else into her life, but she dreams of cowboys. Sexy, hot cowboys in tight jeans, low-tipped Stetsons, and dusty boots. Men who know all about how to please a woman. She enjoys her fantasies, but can’t imagine ever settling down. But one night with one would be so nice. Surely that would get her dreams of a white knight cowboy sweeping her off her feet out of her system.
* Because of an accident that Shane believes left him “less of a man,” he doesn’t see a wife and children in his future. Carson, his ranching partner—and sometimes lover—thinks Shane is wrong. Carson refuses to let Shane settle for a life of rodeo bunnies who only want a romp in bed with a bull rider. Shane deserves more than that. He manages to sign Shane up with a matchmaking service to, hopefully, meet another kind of woman, maybe someone who will appreciate Shane for the man he is. Except Madame Evangeline expects both of the cowboys to go on this special one night date. It doesn’t take long for either cowboy to realize that one night with the purple-haired, hip-shaking beauty in Kauai might not be enough….
~ Excerpt ~
* “I can’t do this!” Kendra moaned and glared at Alexis in the dressing room mirror. She had one boob in a coconut cup and one boob that refused to go in the other bra cup. “I can’t!”
* Alexis walked over and calmly pushed Kendra’s hands out of the way. She lifted the problem coconut shell cup and gently guided the uncooperative breast into place. “Situation resolved.”
* Tears threatened and Kendra’s stomach churned. “That was only part of what’s wrong.”
* She’d been stressed ever since learning about this arranged meeting between her and the two cowboys from Kansas. She’d been dreaming about a fantasy, sexy cowboy for so long. But two at the same time? What if neither of them met her visualization? Would she be soured on all cowboys? Would her fantasies be ruined forever? She didn’t have time in her harried life for more than the occasional fantasy. She needed it.
* She exhaled deeply, wincing at the slight movement of the rough shells over her tender breasts. She still hadn’t gotten around to replacing the felt lining and she would pay for that negligence today. “My fantasies are all I have. If this goes wrong…. If they are—”
* “This could be far better than those dreams of yours,” Alexis chastised with a frown. “It’s two cowboys.”
* Kendra paced away and fluffed out her skirt. “Could be being keywords.”
* A tear trickled down her cheek and she dashed it ruthlessly away. Then her shoulders slumped and she mumbled miserably, “I should never have agreed to any of this.” She glowered at Alexis. “You pushed me into it, all of it. Agreeing to spend some kind of night with two cowboys is bad enough. But you accepted this dance show without discussing it with me. And they are supposed to meet me here.”
* She paced across the small room again, fluffing the sides of her grass skirt again. “First impressions are a big deal, you know. And here I’ll be shimmying my ass around wearing a pink skirt made of fake grass and bouncing my boobs in a really dumb coconut shell bra.”
* To her disgust, Alexis laughed. “They’ll think themselves the luckiest cowboys in the world.”

The whole thing about relationships and feelings confuses the heck out of Calhoun. He’s a simple cowboy and he’d been planning to marry a long-time friend for a while. When he finally realizes it doesn’t feel right, he lets her go. He probably shouldn’t have gone to her wedding to another man, but she wanted him there. But that’s when he really gets confused. His eye is drawn to a seriously hot businessman…and that sure does unnerve him…and yet….
Emotionally burned by the last man he thought he’d loved, Daniel isn’t anxious to replace him. But there is something about the proud, bedroom-eyed cowboy who shows up at his friend’s wedding. The CEO isn’t even sure if the cowboy’s gay, although the heat firing between them makes him wonder….
What he does know is that he plans to find out.

A Look At Starla Kaye & 'For Ruby’s Love' @starla_kaye @decadentpub #menage #western

Today we have author Starla Kaye visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* My name is Starla Kaye and I’m addicted to writing in many forms. I write romance in many sub-genres. I have dabbled with contemporary, Western historical, medieval, Regency, paranormal, and sci-fi. But I will admit that the majority of my heroes are cowboys.
* Whatever romance genre I write in, my men are going to be strong-willed, determined, self-confident, and slightly domineering. They are also going to butt heads with women who will bring them to their knees, and, of course, win their hearts.

What book are you going to tell us about today? Is it part of a series? If so, what's the order the books should be read in?
* Today I’m going to talk about my latest release from Decadent Publishing, For Ruby’s Love. It can be read as a stand-alone book, but it is actually the sequel to The CEO and The Cowboy.

How'd you/your muse come up with this story?
* Although my husband (a balding accountant) claims to be the muse/model for all of my heroes, he actually isn’t. At least not in appearance. I will admit that he is a very good man at heart, patient, and loving. Which is good, because while I consider myself good at heart as well, I tend to get a little impatient at times. I’m very impulsive, tending to act first and think later. I am loving, though. My source of inspiration for this story was the first story. I wanted to go into Calhoun and Daniel’s lives more, and give them something to further shake up their world.

Describe the hero.
* Alpha male Calhoun is a stubborn cowboy.

Describe the heroine.
* The heroine, Ruby, is independent and a skilled horse therapist.

Since this is a ménage, who's the third hero?
* Alpha male Daniel is an equally strong businessman.

Who's your favorite character in the book & why?
* While I like each of the characters, I would have to say Calhoun is my favorite. He faces a lot of challenges in both books. In the first one, he finally is faced with the fact that he is drawn to a man sexually: Daniel. He has sensed an interest in other men, but had up until they met only been involved with women. Daniel shakes him to the core of who he is and what he’s about, at least as a lover.
* In For Ruby’s Love, he is dealing with a tragic barn fire and the situation where his prized, valuable breeding mare is now traumatized. He and Daniel have settled into their relationship and Daniel has supported him through this emotional tragedy. Calhoun has made arrangements for the best horse whisperer in the country to come hopefully help his mare. Except it is a woman who shows up for the job. The trouble begins at that moment, both in frustration and an unwanted attraction.

What's your favorite line in the story?
* My favorite line in the story comes when Calhoun and Ruby are arguing. He has makes a stab at apologizing.
* “I apologize for acting like a….” He seemed at a loss for a description of his rather rude behavior.
* Helpful, she supplied one. “An ass.”

A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
* Calhoun’s a simple cowboy with more problems in his life than he can handle at the moment. After nearly two years, he struggles to hang onto a relationship with Daniel, his first male lover. Daniel is worried about him because of the fire, his concern for his prized breeding mare, and because he is determined to buy the neighboring ranch to expand. But Daniel isn’t a businessman without goals of his own for expansion, a fact that frustrates Calhoun as well. He doesn’t want to lose Daniel, but will their differences finally be too much?
* Daniel considers himself a lucky man to have met the rancher, someone almost his opposite and someone who he doesn’t want to live without. Standing beside the moody Calhoun has been difficult since the fire that burned down a horse barn, took the lives of two valuable horses, and traumatized a favored mare. Along with all of that, his harried friend is determined to expand his ranch holdings. Daniel is against the purchase and would prefer to find a way to slow the man down. Lately, he’s also begun worrying if maybe he isn’t enough to satisfy his lover’s needs.
* Complicating everything even more, Ruby shows up later than expected at Calhoun’s ranch to honor a job as a horse therapist that her father had agreed to before his sudden death. She knows what happened to the mare and is certain she can help her, if given the chance. But the stubborn rancher can’t get past the idea of her being a woman, someone not strong enough to work with such a damaged horse. They butt heads over the matter until she finds an ally in Daniel. He is concerned and yet believes in her abilities. Another problem arises, though. She and Calhoun have been skirting around an unwanted attraction, and then she discovers another surprising interest between her and Daniel.
~ Excerpt ~
* He pulled open the over-sized front door and gaped at the bit of a woman shivering on the porch. She appeared a foot shorter than him and a good sixty or more pounds lighter. What hit him most were her eyes—an odd dark green, like jade or something. Her eyes narrowed as he looked her over.
* Finally, she stretched to her full minimal height and bristled at him. “When you’re done checking me out, do you think you could let me inside? It’s colder than cold out here.”
* Daniel stepped beside him and intervened. “Let the lady in, Cal.” He looked around her and asked, “Where’s your car? Assuming you drove here.”
* She slid between them into the tiled foyer before turning back. “No car. And I didn’t drive here, at least not exactly.” Her teeth chattered.
* Calhoun closed the door against the sharp winter breeze and watched her pull off a battered pink Stetson, unveiling chin-length strawberry-blonde hair. “What does ‘not exactly’ mean?” He added, “Who are you, anyway?”
* She worried her trembling lower lip and glanced from him to Daniel and back. She pulled off a glove and stuck out her hand. “Ruby McMurtry.”
* Instead of taking her hand, he puffed up in annoyance. “You’re late! Where’s your father?”
* She started to lower her hand, glowering at him. But he noticed something besides anger in the depths of those enchanting eyes. He couldn’t get a handle on the emotion.

Welcome special guest: author Starla Kaye

Today we have romance author, Starla Kaye, visiting. Welcome!
I asked her how she got into being a writer and what she loves about it, and this is what she had to say…

Like many writers, I have been writing ever since I was a child. I’ve always had a vivid imagination, which I got from my dad. He was an amazing man. Because of him I grew up reading science fiction and not romance. I didn’t actually read my first romance until I joined a romance writers group. But I have always loved books and movies that ended with the two main people getting some kind of Happily Ever After. So writing romance has fit me.
I started with my first short story, The Little Family,
around age ten and eventually wrote my first attempt at a mystery about fifteen years later. The hard copy of that is buried somewhere, but will never be among my list of books published. Sometimes it is best to move on. Since then I have published 18 novels, 17 novellas, and 5 anthologies…all in some sub-genre of romance. I write for Black Velvet Seductions, Blushing Books Publications, Decadent Publishing, and Red Rose Publishing.
What I love about writing is that it gives me a chance to let my imagination run free. I can write about whatever I want, in whatever sub-genre strikes my fancy at the time. I am lucky enough to sell almost all of what I write. But I also write some “for fun” stuff on the side to take a break from deadlines and avoid the whole assembly line feeling of writing one project to sell after another. For fun, I
write a short story series about this adventurous, imaginative, romantic cow named Blossom and her bullfriend Ferdinand. It started as a goofy writing exercise for one of my writer’s groups and has “blossomed” since then. She even has her own website http://blossomandfriends.com.

Being a writer isn’t nearly as easy as some people think it will be when they read a book and think, “I could do that. I could write better than that.” You might have a lot of ideas, but can you really sit down and put them to paper (or on computer)?
There is so much to learn when you first start writing, particularly if you want to make this a career. You can read and analyze every writer’s help book out there. But if you don’t sit down and actually hit that keyboard long enough to finish a story, novella, or novel, you will never reach your dream of being published. This is a serious “stick to it” business. You have to want it. You have to love writing, with all its ups and downs. I do.

Starla Kaye has worn many hats professionally and as a writer. She works part-time with her husband (who believes he is the model example for each of her heroes, “yes, honey, of course you are”) in an accounting firm. A gerontologist by degree, she volunteers in the community with a very active group of senior adults, who provide her with story ideas for senior adult romances she occasionally likes to write for fun. She is a multi-published author on-line in e-book and Print-On-Demand book form, writing as both Starla Kaye and S. K. Fero for Black Velvet Seductions, Blushing Books, Decadent Publishing, and Red Rose Publishing.
Today she is promoting her new release: ‘Their Lady Gloriana’ available at Black Velvet Seductions
Blurb:
Think medieval times when honorable men must do what is required of them.  Thomas Lancaster, a widower with bad memories of marriage and a young son he barely knows, is a hardened knight loyal to his king. In reward for his efforts fighting in the Crusades, King Edward gives him Middlemound Castle to hold for the crown. But he must marry the beautiful young widow of the castle’s previous lord.
Lady Gloriana Stewart suffered brutally in her first marriage and has no desire to marry again. She has no choice and must protect her people and obey her king. All she wants is for her new husband to give her a baby. Thomas refuses to even consider it.
Complicating the situation is Sir Rowan Montgomery, Thomas’s first knight, friend, and lover. Complicating the problem even more, Gloriana has feelings for both her new husband and for Rowan.
Excerpt:
Gloriana was a tiny woman, delicate, fragile for a man such as him. Thomas’s first wife had been a woman of fair size, not that he’d minded. They hadn’t been in love and he’d never grown to love her. She had managed his household well. His people had respected her, as had he. There had been no lustful feelings between them. This small woman drew him as no other before her ever had. He was both uneasy with that and glad, for they were to marry.
He heard Rowan’s heavy footsteps behind him as they walked toward the solar. The two of them had talked about Edward’s decree during their long ride from Tunis. Both of them had concerns. Neither wanted this marriage to affect their deepening relationship, but both knew it would. But Thomas would not give up Rowan. Somehow he had to make both situations work.
“She’s a pretty one,” Rowan said quietly. “I’m thinking ‘twill nay be a hardship to have her as a wife.”
Thomas considered what his friend said. He was certain he’d heard a touch of envy in his lover’s tone. As if he, too, well appreciated the petite beauty thrust into their lives. He wasn’t sure how he felt about that.
To his surprise, she faced him and thrust out her chin. “I feared Geoffrey every day of our life together. But, know you this, I will not endure that kind of life again. No man will ever treat me that way again.”
Thomas felt his chest swell with admiration. “You will never need to fear me, little one.”
