What would you like to tell readers about yourself?

* I was born in England. My parents loved to travel as my dad spent many years in the navy. By the time I reached the age of 12 we had traveled pretty much around the world on cruise ships.
* This sounds fun and exciting unless like me you can get sea sick sitting in a bathtub. Lets just say boats do not feature highly in my books.
* I still love to travel, but I use planes. All of my life I have written stories in my head. I would rewrite and add characters to TV shows, edit and change novels I was reading, invent scenarios and scenes to amuse myself on long journeys. But strangely I never wrote any of them down. About three years ago I woke up with a scene so clear in my head I knew I had to put it down on paper. Now, what should I do with this one page of prose? I know, I will email it to some friends. The friends approved, in fact they asked what book it was from. I shyly admitted it was my own work and the reaction was immediate...please write the next bit! I did and I have not stopped writing since.

What are you going to tell us about today?
* My contemporary paranormal holiday romance, Ghosts of Grace Cottage.

A look into the story

~ Blurb ~ * Eloisa Waters is creating a new life for herself. After travelling for twelve months, she comes home at Christmas, purchasing a small country cottage in a sleepy English village, despite the fact its previous owner was a recluse, the original owner was supposedly a witch, and it’s now rumored to be haunted!

* “My folks always wanted a country cottage. Maybe in some ways I’m fulfilling their dream.”
* Sally yanked the collar of her coat higher as a chill breeze flew along the quiet country lane. “You know she died there,” she whispered. “The previous owner, I mean.”
* “Miss Hardy was ninety-two years old. She had to die somewhere.”
* “Doesn’t it freak you out?”
* “Nope, from what I hear she had a long and happy life.”
* “Really?” Sally shivered. “I don’t know where you get that idea. She was a recluse who wouldn’t let anyone inside the house to do repairs and renovations. That’s why it’s so cheap. Did you hear the rumors? Some people say she used to talk to herself, and strange noises came from inside late at night.” Her voice dropped back to a whisper. “Maybe it’s haunted. I heard another rumor too. They say a witch might have lived here a couple of hundred years ago.”
* Elly laughed. “Sal, honey, I think you need to go back to realtor school. Your selling method leaves a lot to be desired.” Her eyes turned once again to the faded beauty of the old home, and her voice was determined. “I want it.”

     Even Vic was on the fence regarding whether or not what his wife’s team sought out was real. But love had a way of making a man concede to things he wouldn’t otherwise. I was just glad I didn’t have to worry about stuff like that in my own life.
     The paranormal, love, holiday cheer. All bunk in my book. Great myths people fought hard to believe in and bring to life only to be disappointed in the end.

For Six Sentence Sunday, I’m sharing an excerpt from my story ‘Chasing Miss Kringle’ (found within Evernight Publishing’s holiday anthology – Stockings & Suspenders) over the course of six weeks.
1 of 6:
     “You’re the only one left, Jack.”
     Victor’s request had to be some kind of joke. Yet the rigid set of his wide shoulders and straight face told me otherwise. Disbelieving what I’d just heard, I continued to stare at my PI partner and friend. What did Vic mean he wanted me to track down an elf? There were serious cases to work on, like helping my buddies in Metro track down a couple of high end thieves.
2 of 6:
     Suicides and thefts. The holiday season. What a great time of year.
     “I’m not in the mood to be toyed with, Vic. So, let me get this straight,” I stated with more calm than I felt. Being side-tracked from important matters was a pet peeve of mine.
3 of 6:
     “You want me to find a little dude in a pointy green felt hat and long red curly shoes with bells on the tips? Do I have to remind you I’m an ex-cop? That you hired me to catch bad guys and help find the missing? I work with you here at LVH-PI. Not with them.”
     I jerked my thumb toward a tan colored wall littered with stenciling.
4 of 6:
     The design and colors reminded me of the Native American beaded belts people sold at roadside stands. Vic’s wife, Malory, worked in the adjoining office. She loved her southwestern motifs, each room decorated to represent Arizona and New Mexico. Knickknacks and other items of the same colors dominated all our offices. The décor had too many colors and crazy patterns, made my head swim, but clients were comfortable when they came in due to the warm, earthy colors. And in our line of work, people needed to be put at ease and into a state of trust.
5 of 6:

     Malory loved what she did for a living. An ex-showgirl, who still had the body and beauty of a dancer, worked with her PI team, comprised of mostly women, in the office suites next door. There were a lot of girls against boys competitiveness in our outfit. The boys’ part of the business, headed up by Vic, was Las Vegas Hunters Private Investigating Services, real cops and robbers, cloak and dagger stuff.
     Lory’s side…Las Vegas Hunters Paranormal Investigating Services.
     Being a skeptic, it amazed me how many people were believers in the paranormal.

Welcome special guest: author Kelly Yeakle ( @KYeakle27 @evernightpub )

Today we have author Kelly Yeakle visiting. Kelly says, “I have three young children that keep me entertained. I enjoy the outdoors and will try anything once, though I’m extremely afraid of heights. Writing is not just a hobby for me, it’s a passion.” Welcome Kelly!

* So, Kelly, what inspired you to become a writer?
I always enjoyed writing and spent a good portion of my high school years writing poetry. I never took myself seriously until my late twenties when I was inspired by a new friend online to start putting my ideas down. I joined a writing website and when I started getting good feedback, I put more effort into it.
* When did you attempt your first story? What length was it? What's become of it?
I wrote my first full length story two summers ago. It was 25 chapters long and probably somewhere between 40-50 thousand words. I have it printed out in two versions, first person POV and third person POV, but my old computer crashed and I lost the electronic file. To move forward with it at this point would mean retying up the entire manuscript, a feat I am not yet ready to tackle, lol.
* How many stories did you complete before you sold your first?
The Legacy Keeper’s Treasure was my first piece to be picked up by a publisher and was only the second full length I’d written.
* What genre(s) do you write in? What drew you to write in it/them? What’s your favorite genre of all to write in?
I write contemporary, paranormal, and lesbian romance. I am drawn to each for different reasons. Contemporary is the classic love story and the easiest for me to write. Paranormal allows me to create characters and worlds that are strictly from my imagination and I feel I have more freedom with those stories. Lesbian romance was something I challenged myself to write, and I plan to write more in the future. There’s something about writing a love story that doesn’t fall into the normal guidelines of male/female relationship.
* What are the best and worst pieces of writing advice you ever received?
The best piece of advice was to never lose sight of why I began writing, for the love of telling stories. I haven’t really ever been given any bad advice to date.
* How do you celebrate/deal with acceptance/rejection letters?
If I receive a rejection, I don’t let it get me down. Instead, I try to take the good advice from it, rework the piece and submit again. Acceptances are celebrated with friends and a night out dancing!
* In regard to the book you’re promoting, which actor and actress do you envision playing the roles of your hero and heroine? If there’s a villain or other characters who are pertinent to the story, who would play those parts?
I could see Cam Gigandet playing the role of Craig. Miranda would be played by a blonde Emma Stone.
* The book you’re promoting, is it a stand-alone story or part of a series? If it’s part of a series, please list the order the books need to be read in for maximum reading enjoyment.
Santa’s Little Helper is a story I wrote for Evernight’s Stockings & Suspenders Anthology.

My latest release is called Santa’s Little Helper. It’s a cute little story about a spoiled brat who gets cut off from her trust fund until she can prove that she’s responsible. She takes a job at a department store working in the Santa photo kiosk. In the meantime she falls for her boss who gives her a challenge to help her step up her game and in turn falls for her just as hard.
