What would you like to tell readers about yourself?

* I write irresistible romance, from sweet to erotic and everything in between. On the personal side, I’m a frazzled maid, chef, chauffeur, tutor, and personal assistant. I battle a serious NASCAR addiction and was once a landlord of two uninvited squirrels. I follow research and new developments concerning tricuspid atresia and other congenital heart defects, and I hold a special place in my heart for “heart kids” and their families.

What book are you going to tell us about today? Is it part of a series? If so, what's the order the books should be read in?
* Captivating the CEO is an office romance and a medical romance, as well as a New Adult story. It’s a stand-alone title, but it’s also part of Decadent Publishing’s Challenge Series. Rather than being connected books, every book in this line deals with a physical or emotional challenge that is integral to the characters’ journey.

How'd you/your muse come up with this story?
* As soon as I read the guidelines for Decadent’s Challenge series, I knew this would be a home for the story I’d been too scared to write, the one I couldn’t give the “and they were magically cured and never had any pain or hardship again forever and ever” happy ending. This book would be a romance novel with a real-life happy ending, the type of happy ending I want for every person I know who has a medical problem similar to Willow’s.

Describe the hero in five words.
* Colin is a focused, driven, tense workaholic planner.

Describe the heroine in five words.
* Willow is a flirty, light-hearted, live-for-today free spirit. (If that counts as more than five, Willow doesn’t let herself get bogged down by too many rules.)

Who's your favorite character in the book & why?
* Willow is special to me because her medical condition is shared by someone very close to me. I love how she doesn’t let anyone pity her and does everything she can to live life to the fullest and enjoy every second.

What's your favorite line in the story?
* “Do you intimidate everyone you meet?” Willow asked.
* “Apparently not.” Tearing his attention from her mouth, he regarded her pointedly.

A look into the story

* "Feeling a little lusty, are we? So sorry to interrupt." Timon's voice was edged in steel. "Juris wants to watch."
* Thank God Caroline had nistal root with her. She plunged a hand into her pocket, pulled out a small pouch, and dug out some of the powder. She threw it on the ground. "Flame to life!"
* A bright light rose in the air and quickly flamed out. No way could Michael miss it. They needed his help.
* Stefan pounced on Juris, and the two of them tumbled over each other. Caroline was unsure what to do next. Timon crossed his arms as Stefan and Juris fought. Juris forcefully shoved Stefan away, and he struck his head on the wooden barrier. His eyes glazed over.

......* Justin! Who doesn’t want a sexy hero to stir up some passion?

......* It’s in the excerpt – “Skydiving? Can’t say I’d have the guts to try that, though I’d love the chance to kiss a pretty girl in an elevator.” – Justin showing off some Kentucky-born charm here ;)

......* He moved in close, and a wonderful, heady mix of musk and spice filled her nose. Her insides somersaulted in anticipation, wicked intent written all over his perfectly chiseled face. They could be kicked out of the hotel, or worse—arrested and appear on one of those dumbest criminals shows. The elevator wall pressed into her back, but when he leaned forward and touched his lips to hers, all the reasons they shouldn’t be doing this in the elevator evaporated.

..Julia, what would you like to tell readers about yourself?
......* I met Mark through the auspices of the amazing Madame Eve. I’d never been with a man before, not intimately, and I was beginning to think I never would. Seems like there’s a window, you know? Maybe eighteen to twenty-three?
......* Oh I’m sorry…how old did you say you are? And have you…? Oh, whew! I didn’t want to hurt your feelings if you hadn’t done the deed as they say.

..Does your author ever try to take over the story? And how do you deal with it?
......* Oh, she’s trouble that one! She often tries to lay out pages and pages of instructions, a syn…something, and we’re supposed to live our lives according to those directions. Really? Would you do that?

..If you were taken out of the story and placed into your author’s world, what would be the first thing you’d do?
......* Well, would I have Mark with me? I’d miss him otherwise. And I don’t suppose she’d share her man, she seems pretty attached. Actually, I’d love to go with her to a convention, sign my own books.

..If you could pull your author into your world, what do you think would happen to them?
......* I would insist she go on a 1Night Stand date, assuming her husband stays in the original world. I think Madame would show her a good time. It doesn’t count as cheating in fiction, does it? I don’t know if Kate would buy that….but it’s a good fantasy.

..What was the best sexual experience you’ve had?
......* My very first night with Mark, of course. I’m not sorry at all I waited, he was worth the wait.

..Where do you see yourself in the future? What do you hope to accomplish?
......* We plan to start our family soon, and travel, see the world. Mark’s brother is a pilot and he and his 1Night Stand date are our favorite couple to double date with. We always have a great time!

......* My author is Kate Richards. Kate Richards divides her time between Los Angeles and the High Sierras. She would gladly spend all her days in the mountains, but she’d miss the beach…and her very supportive husband’s commute would be three hundred miles. ...* My book The Unholy. But first the lessons I learned from my hero (heroine/villain).
...* Claire Sanchez, 25 year old medicine woman, curandera, is a young woman who has lost her mother when she was five years old, witnessed her murder at the hands of a black robed man. She is a woman of tremendous courage and resolve. Fear tries to get her by the throat and squeeze the life out of her. There are so many times that she fought not to give up, to surrender to despair. I find her so human here, the draw to give up and make oneself disappear when confronted with evil. Evil, the real thing, can be so overwhelming, big and mysterious, and appear to be way out of our influence or control. She is one person, a very young and inexperienced person at that, up against a veritable force not only of society but of nature gone bad. To feel the odds stacked against you and yet know that you can’t be true to yourself, to your life, and to go on with life without getting answers and doing what you need to do to find those answers, no matter what, is sheer inspiration. Courage is courage only when it is face to face with one bad ass enemy…Archbishop William Anarch! If she dies then she knows that she has done what she has needed to do. Death is a real possibility for her. She knows this and yet has to risk it in order to be true to herself as a woman. To risk everything, life itself, in order to be true to self…that is courage and this is a lesson to be learned.

...* Turning toward the window, Claire saw a muscular orderly accompanying Elizabeth to the locked ward at the far end of the hospital compound. A flock of crows circled high overhead, seeming to follow the two receding figures. As they arrived at the outer doors of the locked unit, the orderly reached for his keys. The crows circled while the two crossed the threshold of the unit, Elizabeth suddenly pausing, turning, and looking outside, her gaze riveted on the flock of birds.
...* All but two flew off, disappearing into the piñon-covered hills. The two that remained came to rest on the red brick wall adjacent to the locked unit, their black eyes boring into Elizabeth. She looked panicked then enraged and, shaking a finger at the creatures, yelled something. Her frantic gestures told Claire that she was screeching curses to ward off evil.
...* Claire took a step back from the window, from the impact of Elizabeth’s rage.
...* The orderly grabbed Elizabeth roughly by the arm and pulled her inside.
...* The crows waited, watched, then flew away.

Welcome to the middle of the week!

My contribution to MWT this week is from my recent 1Night Stand release Sunset Heat. I'm sharing this piece since it's the series' 200th book birthday. * Why can’t I open both eyes? Why is my cheek killing me? Desperate for answers, Seana attempted to speak and couldn’t. Her heartbeat raced. She swallowed hard. “What’s wrong with me?” Her voice—more like a soft frog’s croak than her normal lilt—cracked on the question. Her vision blurred for a moment.
* She turned her head at some rustling to her left. A harsh pounding at the base of her skull and knife-like slashes in her temple rewarded her for the movement. The bit of sight she had wavered again. She squeezed her eye shut. Beeps and whirs grew louder. The pinch of something on her finger registered along with the discomfort of objects stuck in the back of her hand. She shifted on the uncomfortable padding. Adhesive stickers with attached wires pulled and nipped the skin along her chest. Anxiety welled within her. Seana’s breathing hitched. To calm down, she breathed in through her nose only to discover cool plastic tubing at her nostrils and stretching down the sides of her face.
* Can’t move. Intense light. Tubes and wires. Oh my God, I’ve been abducted by aliens!

Well, that’s not quite true, she and I have never met, but we speak on the phone. She’s a mysterious Frenchwoman and can be…interesting. Other than Leah, she’s the only person who gets away with telling me what to do. Frankly, she frightens me. The woman can read minds, see into the future, the past, parallel universes, outer-freaking-space…. Maybe I’m more scared of her than my wife. Hell, strike that out of the interview. Neither woman needs to know that, they’ll both use it against me somehow.

......Does your author ever try to take over the story? And how do you deal with it?
......* Ms. Mann? She lets everyone run rampant in her stories. They lack discipline, tell her where they’re going, what they’re doing. She has no control over them.
......* I behaved. I believe I might be the only one though.
......* I refused to be anything other than my buff, tall, dark and handsome self. I sure told her who was boss. I mean, I’m smokin’, there’s just no other way to portray me.
......* Okay, Leah just typed that. This is what happens when she reads over my shoulder. Sorry.

......If you were taken out of the story and placed into your author’s world, what would be the first thing you’d do?
......* Make her write more. If I can find the time to run a hotel empire (while being super hot, signed, Leah), she can find the time to write. Maybe playing Candy Crush is the problem. (I love Candy Crush. ~Leah)

......If you could pull your author into your world, what do you think would happen to her?
......* Valerie Mann would finally understand what a completely orgasmic world she writes in. Maybe that would motivate her to write more. I’ll ask her.

......* Do you recall who is reading (and typing) over my shoulder? There’s a reason why I’m scared of her.

......* My author is Valerie Mann. Valerie Mann is the superwoman every woman tries to be…mother of five attractive, successful children, vixen in and out of the bedroom, runway model fashionista, extreme gardener, and just recently crashed on bestseller lists as a romance author.
......* In real life, Valerie is the mother of five lovely, but ordinary children. Sure, she’s a vixen in and out of the bedroom, which explains the herd of kids. The closest she gets to a runway is an airport, and while she thinks gardens of all sorts are wonderful, she figures that hobby can wait until retirement, if her knees last that long. And that crashing you heard was Valerie collapsing on the couch at the end of a very long day. As for romance, she writes and likes to think she can tell an amazing tale of love or two. ......* “I need a favor, my dear.” Eve paused as the nonstop tapping of a keyboard on the other end of the line echoed in her ear.
......* Such a driven man. He needs to find an outlet. Some relief, or at the very least, a distraction from his relentless, busy schedule.
......* A deep voice finally resonated with resigned impatience. “What can I do for you, Eve?”
......* “I have a client with a very...special request. I’d like your help.” She paused, already knowing what the man’s response would be. A big, fat no fucking way. Not that the reply would deter her in the slightest. Once she set her sights on satisfying her clients, nothing kept her from that goal. Which made her the very best at what she did.
......* He didn’t bother to hide a sarcastic snort. “I’m afraid to ask. Last time you called with a ‘special request,’ I had to pay my maintenance guys overtime to reinforce hooks in the ceiling. I still don’t want to know what that was about.”
......* “Not that I’d tell you anyway. But, I promise no hooks this time.” She hesitated, aware of the need to tread carefully. “Jackson, this woman’s profile is very sad. She lost her fiancé in Afghanistan nearly a year ago. She misses him desperately and has had a difficult time moving on.”
......* More tapping. Obviously distracted, Jack grunted a non-committal, “Uh, huh.”
......* “She feels a one-night stand with a man similar to her fiancé would bring her some closure.”
......* The rapid tapping paused. “Hasn’t she heard of counseling?” What sounded like the scraping shuffle of a phone being readjusted filtered over the line. “And how does fucking a stranger help with the grieving process?”
......* Eve tsked. “Honestly, Jackson, you Americans and your blunt vulgarities. Of course she’s had counseling. I wouldn’t consider honoring her request otherwise.”
......* He tapped some more. “Your point, Eve? I’m busy. What’s the favor?”
......* She laughed. This was going to be so much fun. “I’m looking for her perfect one-night lover. She emailed her fiancé’s picture along with her profile. He was tall, with short black hair, dark eyes, Mediterranean coloring...very handsome.” And a dead ringer for someone else we know.
......* Silence curled in the airwaves between them for several, long seconds. Jackson was a smart man, it wouldn’t take him long to—
